LOT 497 $10 1913 PCGS MS65+ CAC A coin we had the pleasure of selling in our December 2015Regency Auction, where it was described as: “Amazing quality for the connoisseur who appreciates radiant Mint luster, delicate copper highlights and outstanding surfaces. Thedevices and fields are as close to perfection as anyone could hope to find. There are only five coins graded as MS65+ and fifteen finer according to those seen by PCGS which puts this one into pretty clear perspective on how fabulous it truly is.” PCGS 69, NGC 88, CAC 19. Only six coins have graded MS65+, and 18 are graded finer, with a single MS67 finest. This coin sold for $14,100 in our December 2015 Regency Auction. We think this GEM could bring that again! What a great coin for any advanced collector. PCGS # 8873 | EST: $12,000+LEGENDAUCTIONS.COM 251

LOT 498 $10 1908 MOTTO, MATTE. PCGS PR66 CAC A MAGNIFICENT SUPERB GEM Matte $10. Representing the first Indian $10 date that was struck for Collector’s in proof, this amazingly well preserved coin ranks high in the condition census of known survivors from the original mintage of 116 originally produced. Razor sharp devices and silky smooth surfaces show no imperfections of any kind to the aided eye. Deep orange-kakhi gold color with a finely sandblast textured surface shows a multitude of microscopic facets that sparkle in the light. A short toning line on the obverse serves as a pedigree marker, identifying this GEM for all posterity. The quality is amazing, as is the eye appeal. PCGS 7, NGC 10, CAC 8. There are a mere five coins graded finer at PCGS, the finest being the PR67 we sold in our Regency Auction XXI. (which replaced this coin in our consignor’s amazing collection). This coin last sold in the 2012 FUN auction, realizing $69,000. Since that time a non-CAC approved example sold for $79,313. The current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $82,000. We very well could see an APR in that range with this superb coin. A hearty congratulations are in order for the next owner! PCGS # 8890 | EST: $75,000+252

LOT 499 $20 1863-S PCGS MS61Brilliant mint bloom takes on a satiny texture that rolls smoothly over the nearly choice surfaces. Overall the eye appeal is superior to what you might expect for a mint state coin withsuch a modest assigned grade, but the surfaces are minimally marked. Under a light, some very insignificant lines can bedetected with a powerful loupe. The surfaces are pleasing and the eye appeal is great for the assigned grade. PCGS 33, NGC 36. Popular as a Civil War era gold coin, the double eagles from San Francisco are much more available to Collector’s than their Philadelphia counterparts. Thanks to shipwrecks like the Brother Jonathan and the Republic, there are a few known mint state coins for Collector’s. The most recent PCGS MS61 sold for $11,163 and a few years ago, these were $13,000-$15,000 coins. Take advantage of today’s prices and add this really neat gold coin to your holdings! PCGS # 8940 | EST: $13,000+LEGENDAUCTIONS.COM 253

LOT 500 $20 1877-CC PCGS AU58+ CAC A very scarce CC-mint $20, one that generally is only seen in VF or XF, in AU grades, this coin becomes considerably more scarce than its 42,565 mintage would imply. While a few lower end mint state grade coins survive, many do not have the bold, original eye appeal of this wonderful 58+. Ample mint frost comes through the rich, crusty golden surfaces. A few stray marks and lines are noted on either side with sharply struck devices and only the most insignificant friction in the fields. PCGS 72, NGC 126, CAC 13. There are only 3 graded AU58+ at PCGS, and 30 coins have graded in mint state grades to MS62. NONE of the three AU58+s have ever sold in auction. It should be noted that no MS60 graded by PCGS has sold in auction in over a decade. An NGC MS60 that did not have the eye appeal nor originality of this wonderful super-slider sold for nearly $26,000 in April 2016. The market today is a bit stronger, and we think this coin will exceed the estimated value. Good luck! PCGS # 8983 | EST: $25,000+254

LOT 501 255 $20 1878 PCGS MS64 CACArguably the FINEST 1878 double eagle in existence! This coinis fresh from a client’s collection, a coin we have not been ableto track in our auction database--quite possibly making its firstappearance at auction in this generation. This coin is high end and superb in every way! First looking at both sides, you would think you were lookingat a common 1900 or 1904 (indeed, if this coin was a common date, it might well be residing in a higher grade holder). The satiny gold luster swirls around very clean and remarkably smooth, surfaces. All the devices are fully rendered by an exacting impression from the dies, all of James Longacre’s intended design elements are beautifully embossed on the broad gold planchet. Rich original color shows soft honey-wheat gold with coppery accents in areas. The eye appeal is jaw dropping for a $20 of this vintage. We do not think a finer example exists. PCGS 8, NGC 2, CAC 2. There are none graded finer at either service. The other CAC coin was the last PCGS-graded example to ever sell in auction--back in August 2011 (it had earlier been in an OGH PCGS MS63 holder selling in March 2011). Since these do not trade frequently (and this coin has been off the market for many years, and may be the only available example in the foreseeable future, the PCGS Price Guide and Coin World values are likely to not reflect the true value of this impressive gem in today’s market. If you are an aficionado of the Liberty double eagle series, and are looking to add one of the finest examples for your set, do not let this opportunity pass you by! PCGS # 8985 | EST: $35,000+ LEGENDAUCTIONS.COM

LOT 502 LOT 503 $20 1888-S PCGS MS62 $20 1897-S NGC MS64 CAC A very lustrous $20 Liberty with very pretty color and great eye Bold cartwheel luster swirls on both sides of this well struck, appeal. A few minor scuffs and marks account for the PCGS near gem example. The surfaces are pleasing with lovely grade but the eye appeal is better than often encountered for color--this coin is likely from an old European holding, as the surfaces show the color and look of coins we have seen from the grade. those sources. PCGS 1086, NGC 835. The current Collector’s Universe value is listed at $2,700 and the most recent one to sell was an NGC coin PCGS 559, NGC 425, CAC 75. VERY RARE any finer!
