In these cases, it is critically important that tests be conducted in a consistent man- ner. Automation delivers precision and consistency, which ultimately supports accuracy in measurement. For example, when an operator handles a specimen prior to testing, there is the potential for heat transfer from the operator to the specimen, which influences the test and creates inconsistency in the results. The robotic specimen handling solutions that ZwickRoell has developed eliminate the possibility of unintentional changes in the thermal conditions for the samples that are to be tested. The benefits to be gained from installing an automated testing system are numerous. Qualified laboratory staff are relieved of routine jobs and thus available for other activities. Other specifications which are becoming increasingly popular in the world of High Performance alloys are One specification that does cover wire specifically for the NACE series for material selection in the oil and spring applications is AMS 5699G. However, this is a gas industry. rarity and not the norm. ANSI/NACE MR0175/ISO15156-3 is the standard that We often find that sections of the specifications have we see most commonly requested. It covers alloys to be excluded or tailored to the requirements of cold for sour gas applications. A large number of alloys drawn or annealed spring wire supplied in coil or on are covered, most listed for shafts, pins or even ‘any spools. Generally, most standards make an allowance for the customer and manufacturer to come to an agreement prior to an order being placed, identify- ing where the material may fall outside the specific requirements listed. A good example of this is ASTM B574, which covers a range of corrosion resistant materials supplied in bar or rod between ¼\" (6.350 mm) and 3 ½\" (88.90 mm) in the solution annealed or slightly cold worked condi- tion. As many customers look to order this for spring applications in either round or flat wire, it is necessary to pick and choose the applicable sections to allow for partial certification. For instance, with cold drawn wire in coil, it may be necessary to exclude all clauses except for the chemical composition of the alloy. Another commonly requested standard that is appli- cable to spring wire, but does not cover wire in coils, is AMS 5833. This standard covers cold drawn wire in straight lengths up to 0.140\" (3.56 mm) in diameter. In order to comply, certain sections of the specifica- tion again must be excluded. For example, Clause 1.1 (Scope), should be either amended or excluded when material required is larger than 0.140\" (3.560 mm) diameter. If the wire is required in coils rather than in straight lengths, then both Clauses 1.1 and 5.1 should be amended or excluded by mutual agreement. This particular specification raises another interesting issue of trade names, which is often encountered in the 32 Wire Forming Technology International/Summer 2019

The new F 30 is a cost-optimized machine concept, which provides its users with the possibility to extend the machine equipment by various options. Although the F 30 spring coiler is designed as a “cost-optimized“ entry-level machine, many of its features can be attributed to the high- performance level by way of an increased in-feed speed, larger outer spring diameters, extended range of applications and the completely redesigned programming system FPS 1.2. The base F 30 spring coiling machine model includes four CNC axes for infeed with two pairs of infeed rollers, two-finger coiling attachment and a multi-cut system with straight and rotary cut as well as parallel pitch device. The systems’s new spring programming system, FPS 1.2, provides unrivaled flexibility and operating convenience with a new intuitive user interface. For machine operators who are familiar with WAFIOS spring coilers, it is a very simple change from the WPS 3.2 interface to FPS 1.2. The new system operates with a 24\" multi-touch screen and offers a modern style with a high quality recognition. User-friendly programming includes simplified spring input and the table calculation EasyTab as macro replacement for simple corrections. The new WAFIOS F 30 spring coiling machine is configured as a modular expandable spring coiler with several additional features such as the attachment for left-handed springs including further cutting axes and the PTP Finger for adjustment of the pre- tension-position to close the coils of conical springs for a subsequent spring end grinding process and a reduced setup time. And to improve quality assurance, WAFIOS offers the new camera measuring system, FVS, for optical measuring, controlling and sorting of springs and including different sorting chutes depending upon sorting criteria. Additionally, the cutting package provides optimized cut (a software solution) and flying rotary cut. In order to increase the economic efficiency, the compatibility of tooling with the WAFIOS F3 EcoCoiler “Infeed and coiling tools” and FUL 36 “cutting and pitch tools” is guaranteed. The F 30 is also modeled with an enhanced concept of tooling to reduce setup time, 44 Wire Forming Technology International/Summer 2019
