The Information Technology & Business Studies course is designed to provide students with the skills, attitudes and practical experience necessary to: • Develop practical communication and teamworking skills • Obtain employment in administrative and/or information technology related fields either as self-employed, working from home or with a company • Achieve QQI Level 5 Major Award in Office Administration (5M1997) • Progress to further education and/or training in a related field Work Placement: The aim of work placement is to give the students practical hands-on experience in a real work environment throughout the duration of the course. Work placement will commence within the first 4 weeks of the course. Students will engage in work placement 2 days per week and placement will be carried out in negotiation with the employer. Based around an individual training programme students will be supported in making meaningful choices around their own lives and future training/education or employment options. Donegal | Letterkenny Employer Based Training CERTIFICATION: QQI Level 4 Employment Skills (4M0857) COURSE OVERVIEW Duration: Up to 12 months. EBT is a workplace based course whereby students are engaged in ‘On-the-Job’ training with an employer of their choice three days per week and based in the training centre the remaining two days. This is a flexible course enabling students to practice and develop, practical and relevant skills in the workplace, with a host company in a vocational area of their choice. Students are supported on-site and in the training centre by the Course Instructor. The training in the centre is designed to support and enhance the on-site training and will include Work-Place Safety, Personal Effectiveness and Career Planning. Additional supports are available and include individualised support, access to a rehabilitation officer and psychologist, support for literacy and numeracy and a jobs club. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: There are no formal entry requirements to any National Learning Network course. However, applicants must be over 16 and approved by Donegal ETB. 70

Donegal | Letterkenny SOAR | Supporting Outcomes and Advocating Relationships - Integrated Day Service CERTIFICATION: QQI Level 2 Certificate in General Learning P2GL0. Certification at all times is optional and will only be offered where it is appropriate and relevant to the student’s needs. COURSE OVERVIEW Duration: Two years (may be extended based on needs) SOAR Integrated Day Service provides a day service for Service Users within the local community of Letterkenny. The service is within the town boundary within easy access to its surrounding facilities. SOAR offers a day service people who experience a physical or sensory disability and an intellectual disability. SOAR Integrated Day Service is funded by Donegal Training Services (HSE provider) and is managed and delivered by NLN/RehabCare (RehabGroup). The service provides a person-centred structured programme that is based on the interests/ choices of the participants. This is facilitated by a Programme Supervisor and a team of Programme Facilitator’s. Each participant is assigned a Programme Facilitator as their key worker. It is the task of the participant and the key worker to draw up action plans and formulate a weekly programme, which feeds into the Central SOAR Programme. 74

Donegal | Letterkenny COURSE OVERVIEW (CONTINUED): The activities offered are designed to stretch participants to their maximum of independence and social integration. The service activities are both internal and external from the service and integrated with NLN in Letterkenny. This provides the participants from SOAR to mix with others and form new relationships. The staff in SOAR and Personal Assistances (PA’s that are employed by Donegal Centre of Independent Living) that are contracted into SOAR, deliver support and assistance to attend to service users basic daily needs e.g. eating, drinking ,intimate and personal care, support with clinical procedures, trans- porting within the service, and accessing local amenities. COURSE OVERVIEW Duration: Two years (may be extended based on needs) The Living for Life demonstration project takes a person-centred approach which aims to support individuals to participate in life to their full potential both socially & economically while enhancing their ability to participate in their community. Living for Life currently offers a specifically designed programme for a specified group of people with high support needs. Due to these high support needs of each learner on this programme a timetable is developed around each individual’s needs. Inbuilt into this individualised approach is the capacity to offer a high degree of one-to-one support (as required), reinforced and repetitive learning and an emphasis on and modelling of socially appropriate behaviour. This support may need to be constant and it is envisaged may not decrease over the medium term. This programme com- bines support and training in the centre with support in accessing and engaging with activities of interest outside the centre. Students may participate on a work experi- ence placement in a highly supportive environment which may be previously known by them and which has experience of working with people with high support needs.
