My name is Mollie and I am a photographer, painter, and student from Oakland, California– a dense and diverse city across the bridge from San Francisco. Through a collaboration of my own photos, drawings, and materials drawn from academic studies at UCSD, I explore the intersectionality between human cultures and our environment in my climate zine: Biophilia. The term Biophilia means a love for life and living things. As humans, we have an intuitive love for nature that spans across all disciplines: art, architecture, technology, fashion, medicine, and so on. Flipping through the pages of my zine, I hope to inspire an intersectional interaction with nature through art, photography, education, and the consummation of media because the truth is: we are inseparable from our environment. Even in the skyscraper city I call home, I feel nature’s presence. As devastating climate grief and struggles close in on our daily lives, I encourage you to consider the power of Biophilia, of love.
