Foreword Safety is not an intellectual exercise to keep us in work. It is a matter of utmost importance and the measures to protect against life threatening hazards we may face during routine work. It is the sum of our contributions to safety management that determines whether the people we work with are safe or exposed to life threatening challenges. JSP has always taken safety of its employees and all stakeholders as one of its foremost organisational objectives and mission. And the success of this mission has to be achieved by the collective effort and discipline of all the stakeholders by ensuring “Zero harm”. Safety is not about gadgets but a state of mind. Empowering Lives Shallu Jindal Imparting Safety Chairperson, training is a priority JSPL Foundation & Dear Colleagues, Vice President, Flag Post-pandemic, JSPL foundation has a new set of challenges. Covid-19 badly Foundation of India affected the children of the families who lost their Parents. Taking the issue into priority, we built two “Jindal Children Homes”, separately for boys and girls with our own resources at Tamnar in Raigarh for holistic growth of vulnerable and underprivileged Children in and around our vicinity .There we are providing the best possible nurturing support to the Children ranging from food, nutrition, health care, education, sports, games to Yoga , dance and music facilities for their overall physical and intellectual growth. 6 | Jindal | April 2022

These Children are enrolled for CBSE education in OP Jindal School at Tamnar. They will also be imparted with appropriate skill training so that they can choose their way ahead in life to contribute to the development of society.   The pandemic also pitched challenges in the career growth of the girls from unprivileged sections. To overcome those challenges, we have launched “Swayamsampanna Nari” Yojna in Chhattisgarh and Odisha on the occasion of “International Women’s Day” this year to fund their education and skill training. Skilling in Safety is a priority for JSPL Foundation. Caring for Safety is in our DNA, hence we especially impart training to our Students in all the Institutions on Safety. OPJCC has a special focus on the subject. I am happy to know that “Connect” is focusing on Safety in its latest issue that is vital in everyday life. With best wishes. Jindal | April 2022 | 7

Cover Story Mission “Zero Accident” Be Aware, Take Care At JSP, Safety & Health are accorded the highest importance and are an integral part of all our businesses. It’s our firm belief that there is nothing more important than saving human lives. Our OHS department is putting continuous efforts into cultural transformation by engaging senior leadership and other employees in the development of work- related practices and innovative technical revolution. We believe that accidents do not happen, they are caused. We continually improve all aspects of our safety performance and it reflects in all our processes. The safety department conducts scheduled inspections and audits at all units to identify lacuna in the existing safety management system and to identify risks that may lead to personal injury and losses. The scope of the audit also includes the behaviour of the people, compliance with SOPs, skill mapping, emergency preparedness, workplace conditions, safe use of the equipment, legal compliance, and PPEs. All such initiatives on the shop floor upkeep employee morale and develop healthy work culture. Jindal | April 2022 | 11

Apart from this, the OHS department conducts regular safety campaigns on different topics every month to make JSP a safe place to work and to improve the awareness level of employees. Employees are taught about the testing and examination of pressure vessels, lifting machines, chemical and electrical safety, risk handling & assessment, fire control, first aid knowledge, and other related activities including road safety. The event covers health & environmental safety as well. In essence, safety, health, and environmental activities are encouraged among staff at the workplace. At the same time, all employees as well as contractual workers are encouraged to report any unsafe activity or condition and near- miss cases through idea boxes placed at all units. HR departments collect these suggestions and route them to the safety department for review and for the development of a mitigation plan. In order to encourage active participation, employees who provide their feedback and suggestions are rewarded. 12 | Jindal | April 2022

Challenges: Conventionally, safety is considered to be focused on equipment, housekeeping, tools, machinery guarding, and as a responsibility limited to the safety department but in course of time the scope has been extended to other activities as well. At JSP, we have put in place a robust system for safety management through the Occupational Health and Safety Policy, standard operating procedures, instructions, safe methods of work, work permit system, etc. The challenge is to bring up every employee working at a critical front to own and practice new norms of safety. We can ensure “Zero Accidents” by reinforcing correct procedures and bringing about a change in the behaviour of employees. Jindal | April 2022 | 13

Solution: Smart working is the method to avoid any accident at the workplace. There are no shortcuts to success so vigilant supervision, accurate time management in compliance with SOP, proper stress management system by building a culture of safety can put up effective solutions for “Zero Accident”. Demonstrating OHS commitment and defining how we want to excel in safety performance is done through formal and informal communication. To achieve this effective communication, we have ensured that all our management systems have incorporated strong OHS values and are written and communicated in a manner that is accessible to all staff, as seen in business management manuals, visual symbols and objects, and communications initiated by the OHS Head. The OHS Head further drives organizational safety values and accountabilities by asking senior management during meetings to indicate how they have displayed their commitment to safety. 14 | Jindal | April 2022

At all units of JSP, the “Apex Safety Committee Meeting” is conducted every month headed by top management leadership and the chairman of sub-committees to make JSP a system-driven organization. The agenda and actionable points are circulated to all concerned for time-bound completion. Apart from this, departmental safety committees and 8 different safety sub-committees meet every month to focus on the most serious concerns of the unit. At JSP, we conduct the senior management safety line walk, cross-functional safety audit, and group safety audit, where the departmental HODs, Section heads, and safety officers participate. Various plant areas are inspected in this audit and areas of improvement are identified for redressal. At JSP, we are building an environment that supports and encourages safety behavior. We encourage all employees to be our partners in making JSP a leader in OHS performance, by a greater commitment to safety. Jindal | April 2022 | 15
