` COST OF A MANGO Nihaal’s mother had given him an item list to buy from the market. It was a summer vacation for Nihaal. He was so happy to go to market because the market was very near to his house and he can buy small items from his pocket money. He took fifty rupees from his pocket money with his mother’s permission and ran to the market. First, he bought all the items from the list that his mother had given him then he decided to buy mangos using his pocket money. Unfortunately, he didn’t see anyone selling mangos nearby. Nihaal to a seller : Uncle, where will I get mangos? Seller : Ohh, mango season is over, I don’t think you will get mangos this time. Nihaal was really sad because he decided to buy his favorite mangoes using his pocket money. While he was slowly walking back to home his eye struck a mango between a few vegetables. He immediately stopped in front of the old lady’s place who was selling vegetables. She is sitting on the road and in front of her was two cucumbers, few tomatoes and a mango was laid on a newspaper. Nihaal : Grandma, How much for this mango? Grandma : oh… my dear, it cost a lot Nihaal : I got 50 rupees . Grandma: It costs two thousand rupees. Nihaal : a mango cost 2000 rupees? with his curiosity he asked again, what was the specialty of this mango? Before completing his words, he fell off the tree with the mango. Immediately I called the ambulance and they took him to the hospital. ` The Lesson From the Spider (Retold) A long time ago there lived a King Named Robert Bruce. He had been the newly crowned king of Scotland. It happened that in the winter of 1306, King Bruce was defeated by King Edward II of England in six Battles and driven out of the country. Bruce took shelter in a cave in Ireland. He layed their cold, hungry and lonely. Bruce remembered afterward that it was a day that had started of a most depressing. As king Bruce lay there on the cold stone floor of the cave, he spotted a grayish- brown house spider. Having nothing else to do he watched the spider attach her threads to the wall of the cave entrance to build a web. Each time she made some headway gust of wind came blowing and tore her gauzy web, snapping the silken threads. Each time that happened Bruce sighed sadly and wailed, “Oh no!” The spider stopped awhile to rest and start again. The cave’s entrance was small and dark. Six times the spider made brave attempts and six times she was defeated by the wind. “We are alike, you and I”, King Burce said hoarsely. “I lost six battles too”, he told the spider. He sighed again and closed his eyes wearly. He swallowed hard remembering the frustration. Bruce must have open his eyes, “Huh”, he exclaimed in surprise; he saw that the spider undaunted, had challenged the wind and was merrily completing a web that covered the entire entrance of the cave. “You have succeeded my good friend. Bravo!” the King said aloud. “You tried and tried till you Succeeded. You never gave up.” King Bruce was silent for a long time after that. “Spiders can be friends, Spiders can be messengers,” he whispered to himself. Then Bruce heard footsteps. He crouched down in the darkness of the cave. It was the soldiers from who he was hiding. One of them peered into the cave. “Theirs is no need to look into the cave; no one could have entered there without disturbing this spider’s web, see?” said another soldier. King Bruce listend till their footsteps died away into the distance. Then he breathed free. “You little spider, you have been my life –saver too,”Bruce said. ` THE PERSON WHO INFLUENCED ME THE MOST The person who impressed me is Helen Keller who was an optimist and was a living example who gave hope for many deaf and dumb. Her story might have been a hope giver to thousands of handicaps. Helen Keller was born in Alabama, USA in 1880. When she was only 19 months old, she had amajor illness which left her blind and deaf and therefore dumb as well. The child felt completelycut off from the world till a teacher called Anne Sullivan came into her life and taught her by communicating through her finger. Under the table guidance of Mrs. Sullivan, Helen Keller began to develop in her life, and graduated with honor at Radcliff College in 1904. She was a good teacher and had written many works. In her autobiography she explains how handicap people like her must develop a hope in their life. She travelled all over the world and spread the message of hope and will power among the handicapped people. Helen Keller's famous quotation is \"Life is an exciting business and most exciting when lived for others\". She is of opinion that life has a meaning when it is lived for others. She says that darkness would make man more appreciative of light and silence would teach him the joys of sound. Her advices to those who would make full use of the gift of sight to use their eyes as; tomorrow they might be sometimes stricken blind. She says that the same method can be applied to other senses. There are many lessons that the mankind should study from her. Many people are collapsed in life just because they are handicaps. Some believe that their life is a failure. These people take wrong decisions in their life. Her life and her writing are a great source of inspiration and a testimony to the will, and courage of human things to overcome all handicaps. ` A VACATION IN MUMBAI During the last summer holidays, I had a wonderful vacation in Mumbai. Along with my parents and sister, I spent a few days there. The flight from Thiruvanthapuram to Mumbai was exciting. We stayed in a hotel near the beach. I enjoyed swimming in the hotel. On the following days, we went for sight seeing. A taxi took us to various places of interest. A guide helped us, we visited the Gateway of India, Mani Bhavan, Taraporevala Aquarium and Marine Drive. We also visited some huge malls. We had a wonderful time visiting KidZania and Snow Kingdom. The Sunset at hanging gardens on Malabar hills was beautiful.
