Wewere joined by lecturers from partner In-Comm Training, plus some apprentices, and were challenged by the organisers to deliver basic skills knowledge to show visitors. Using several cutaway demonstration models, wewere able to explain the inner workings of our vehicles. Within the historic vehicle world, there is much debate overwhether it is preferable to preserveavehicle or to restore it. In many ways, preservation is a more difficult challenge because of the need to make the vehicle roadworthy while maintaining as much of the patina acquired overthe decades. It is relatively easy with trim to feed the leather but retain the creases acquired overtheyears, forexample, but restoration can result in every component becoming bright and shiny like new. One of our directors exhibited a 1931 Alvis TJ 12/50 (above). The car has had a full life, having been with a Vintage Sports-Car Club enthusiast in the ’50s. At the show, visitors were able to examine thecarandvotetoexpress their opinion on whether it should be preserved or restored. FDBAHVIVDCWCHHAALIREMAN The FBHVC lobbies in Westminster and beyond.
