MONTHLY CURRICULUM FOR UKG (Blooms) Month: September Theme: Nature Week-3 Day-1 Show and tell activity: 9.00 am to 9.30 am Concept: Seasons-food we eat Teacher displays the pictures of different seasons and asks the following questions: What season is this? How do you feel during this season? What would you like to eat during this season? Teacher continues with the same procedure till she covers all the seasons. After she does so, she sums up the session by saying that ‘we eat food according to the seasons. We would like to eat hot food items during rainy and winter season, cold items like ice cream, and cold drinks during summer season. We should also take care of our health during all seasons. If we don’t take precautions, we will fall sick. For e.g., in rainy season, we should not eat outside food. Always drink boiled and cooled water. Carry umbrella when you go out in rain or sun. Drink lots of water during the summer season as the water content from the body goes off in the form of sweat.’ 9.30 to 10.00 am: Language development: Story time: Fox and the Crane: The Crane and the Fox Once there lived two friends, a crane and a fox. They were very friendly to each other. One day the fox wanted to tease the crane and invited the crane for dinner. The crane came to the fox’s house. The fox invited the crane and served the dinner in a shallow plate. The crane because of its long neck and its beak could not eat the dinner. The crane felt very bad and went away. 151

After some time, the crane hearing that the fox is teasing everybody in the same way wanted to teach it a lesson so invited the fox for lunch. The fox happily went to the crane’s house. The crane invited the fox and served a very delicious fish in a long necked pot. The fox because of its short neck could not reach the fish and could not eat them. The crane ate away all the fish. Then the fox realized that it has been teasing everybody in the same way and everybody could have felt bad about the way she behaved. The fox felt sorry for its behavior and walked away. Moral of the story: Treat others as you want them to treat you. For today you only narrate the story and please show them pictures of crane and a fox. Discuss with them the way in which a fox eats and the way the crane eats. 10.00 to 10.20: Sight word reading. 10.20 to 10.40 am: Snack time 10.40 to 11.20 am: Work time Small Group Activity: 11.20 to 11.45 am Concept: Free hand drawing Teacher makes the students do the worksheet in the activity book. For eg. when she shows the picture of an umbrella, the students are supposed to stand in rainy season box. They can also stand in the summer box. In such situations teacher should justify the correctness of the concept. 152
