HistoryOf Kite Origin . Historical uses

Origin Of KiteThe exact date and origin of the kite is not known but it isbelieved that they were own in China more than twothousand years ago. One legend suggests that when aChinese farmer tied a string to his hat to keep it fromblowing away in a strong wind, the rst kite was born.LegIefnoduanrdytKhiete ! Good Job !

uses Of Kites There are many ways to use a kite

besItasmhotohteer! Anti–AircraftOh Crap ! In World War II, kites were used to simulate anti-aircraft targets in the air. On the ground, kites were mounted with rudders and used to simulate a moving object, and soldiers would fire at the kites to improve their accuracy. Falconry The art of raising and training falcons to hunt with humans. Trainers tie lures to a kite and launch it up into the sky, usually many hundreds of feet higher than their falcon usually flies, in order to encourage the bird to soar to new heights. Falcons trained in this manner quickly associate kites with their owner, and some falcons that have gone missing for days will return home once they recognize that same kite flying in the air. Kites used in falconry must be able to achieve great heights, and be capable of excelling at high angles created by heavy wind.

Kite Fishing In the South Sea Islands, it was said that kites were used to fish, attaching bait to the tail of the kite and using a web to catch the fish. Even today, some natives of the Solomon Islands still use kites as fishing tools.WooooOOW! Kite Surfing Kites are used in the recreational sport of kite surfing, which involves a surfer clutching a line tethered to a high traction kite while balancing on a surfboard. Kite surfing is environmentally friendly in that it replaces a traditional towing watercraft such as a motorboat.

8cm Meteorology Kites were used in meteorology as early as the eighteenth century, when two students at the University of Glasgow named Alexander Wilson and Thomas Melville attached thermometers to kites to study the temperature of the air. Kites were used extensively for studying the weather in the 1830s and 1840s, and continued to be used for this purpose until the middle of the twentieth century, when they were replaced by weather balloons and later by weather satellites. Measuring Kites were often used to measure distances when it was undesirable or dangerous to physically walk to another location. The earliest written account of kite flying was about 200 B.C. When the Chinese General Han Hsin of the Han Dynasty flew a kite over the walls of a city he was attacking to measure how far his army would have to tunnel to reach past the defenses. Knowing this distance his troops reached the inside of the city, surprised their enemy, and were victorious.

Now we can Plane Developmentfly like a kite ! In the 18th and 19th centuries, kites were used as EEMEHEHEEEL..P. P vehicles research. Sir George Caley, Samuel Langley, Lawrence Hargrave, Alexander Graham Bell, and the Wright Brothers all experimented with kites and contributed to development of the airplane. Lighting Rod In 1752, Benjamin Franklin conducted his famous kite flying experiments and proved that lightning is electricity. During the 1700s lightning was a major cause of fires. Many wood buildings caught on fire when struck by lightning. Benjamin Franklin wanted his experiment to be practical, so he developed the lightning rod. A tall rod is attached to the outside wall of the house. One end of the rod points up into the sky and the other end is connected to a cable. The rod attracts the lightning and sends the charge into the ground. The lightning rods became wildly popular and lightning rods still serve the same important purpose today.

Say Kite aerial photographyCHEESE! Kite aerial photography is a hobby and a type of photography. A camera is lifted using a kite and is triggered either remotely or automatically to take aerial photographs. The first kite aerial photographs were taken by British meteorologist Douglas Archibald in 1887 and Arthur Batut in Labruguière (France) in 1888.oRuUrNliffeo!r Scare enemy soldiers Kite is a unique history tool to scare off enemies in China. One famous account was of a General who was under siege this time. He used the kites with harps fitted to them and then it was flow across enemy camps. At night, the wailing sounds of the harp across the sky were a sign that the defeat is on their side, making the enemies flee of fear. There seems to be validity to it since kite, in China is also known as Fen Zheng (Wind+ Harp). Dragon and monster kites were also used to scare the ememies.

Misehsesraeg!e Kite Messager Kites were a communication between a plane and a ship. A kite with a message would be flown on the ship for the plane to catch. The return message from the plane would be attached to the kite line and sent back down to the ship. Warriors in ancient China also used kites as a mode of signaling during battle. Yes! Kites help us to have fun and make our life more convenient ! Kite isamazing!

PeanutanatomyOf KitesMost Kites have common anatomy features

SailRegardless of its shape or size, every kite has a lifting surface calleda kite sail. The sail resists the force of the wind and the kite istherefore pushed into the sky. A sail needs to be both strong andlight, relative to its size.A sail can serve as a canvas for beautiful art. It can be made of manydifferent materials including:Paper — rice, construction, letter, tissue, newsprint.Plastic — trash bags, Mylar, vinyl , polyethylene, Tyvek.Synthetic Fabric — nylon, polyester.Natural Fabric — cotton, silk, linen.

Spars:The sail is usually supported by spars. The spars form the frameworkor skeleton of a kite. The spars may be formed from wood (such asbamboo, spruce, or pine), plastic, fiberglass or graphite. Dependingon the kite style and the location of the spars, they may be rigid orflexible. Center Spars of the kiteSPINE & SPREADERSSpine is the spar that runs from the top to the bottom of the kite.Spreader is the spar that runs from wingtip to wingtip.

Bridles:Most kites have a bridle, made from a line or a set of lines that areattached to the kite. The bridle is possibly the most important part of akite — its proper position and adjustment is essential for obtaining themost suitable flight angle into the wind. The bridle line is usually the same strength as the flying line. Adjustingthe bridle establishes the flight angle of a kite. Some kites aresupported by more than 50 bridle lines, while others fly well with theflying line attached directly to their framework.Commerciallyproduced kites usually have fixed flight angles.TOW POINT & BRIDLE POINTThe flying line is connected to a certain point on the bridle called thetow point. The bridle is connected to the kite at the bridle point.

Keel:A keel is a piece of material that is a substitute for a bridle. Attachedto the sail over the spine (on kites that have a spine), a keel evenlydistributes pressure on the spine so that the kite will not bend or lose itsshape in a strong wind. Some kite makers believe a keel also helps stabilize a kite when it slipssideways. A keel often has a number of fixed points where a flyingline can be fastened to make adjustments for light or strong winds.

tails:Tails help stabilize kites. Some kites do not need a tail since they aredesigned to be stable. That supports a saying among Japanese kitemakers: \"A good kite needs no tail.\" Even when tails are unnecessary, they may be added for artistic or visual effect. In the early 1900s, William Eddy devised a way to construct a kite thatcould fly without a tail. He modified a diamond-shaped, two-stick kitemade by natives of the Malaysian Peninsula by bowing the horizontalspar. The bowed spar created a dihedral, a flexed position for thewings, which continues to stabilize the everpopular tailless Eddy kitestoday.

TypesOf KitesThere are many different styles of kites

FlatMost of the earliest known kites were flatand rigid (not bent by the wind in flight). Aflat kite usually requires one or more tails, some vents or special construction to achievean even spilling of air for stability. Manyexamples of flat kites still appear amongtraditional Asian and Caribbean kites.

BowedMany kites face the wind with a curve. This curvecreates dihedral for stability. They may be bowedby their construction or by the wind. Shortening thetension line on back will allow the kite to bow. Thisdesign is just like the front of a boat that parts thewater as it moves. Bowed kites seldom need tails.Example of Bowed kite: Malay Kite, Rokkaku, EddyBowed Kite and Wau bulan.

RokkakuRokkaku is a Japanese word that means thatthis kite has six corners. The size of the kite variesfromabout 4’ to 7’ and they usually have a four-leggedbridle. This style of kite is bowed by two tension linesand is popular because it flies well without tails andprovides a nice shape to carry artwork. Similar to ademolition derby, a game called a Rokkaku Challengeis played with this style of kite. All at once, many ofthese kites are launched and players try to cut or knockeach other out of the sky.

FigureFigure kites can take many shapes. Butterflies, birds, bats, bees, fish, dragons and dragonflies are allpopular. Representations of people, animals andcartoon figures are also common. They are often madefrom traditional materials such as paper or silk with abamboo frame. Modern materials such as fiberglassand nylon are also used.
