The promotion brief was an interesting way to Professional practice and work experience in graphic design p. 7 learn about other people’s aims and talents, I was able to understand what Maddie and Ru were passionate about, and where they hoped to develop their careers. However, for someone to do the same for me is a hard task, I realise I can ‘t define what I’m aiming for, or even what type of designer I am, and that’s if I am one at all. In the past few years, I have not perfectly video editing skills, so what I’m presenting are relatively simple in design, with a muted colour palette. I chose not to use a recorded voice, I wanted to simplify the process and not getting bogged down in editing the voice, so instead I used a computer voice, I know some people might not think highly of that, but I like computer voices and would rather listen to something audible than badly edited vocals, so that is my reasonings.

p. 17 BRIEF : COSTING: TIMESHEET Professional practice and work experience in graphic design I genuinely under value my work, in the past I would have done research without considering it was something of value. So, I’m learning to understand that every little thing adds up, I shouldn’t give away my energy. At the time of making the timesheets I was focusing on one project, when in fact I was working on other things, it’s easy not to track of everything, and this proves there is a need to, especially in the working from home environment. I based the figures on the research I had done; I still wonder if those rates are too high for me, but they seem realistic for a Junior designer. It makes me realise that I’m not used to being paid what my time it worth. It surprised me how much I could earn, just from doing basic things.

BRIEF: THE REAL COST Professional practice and work experience in graphic design p. 18

BRIEF: WORKING LIFE Professional practice and work experience in graphic design p. 19

Professional practice and work experience in graphic design BRIEF: COMPLIANCE Compliance How do I respond to being told what to do? I do as I am told I never do as I am told I listen then I do as I am told I will always say no first until I am persuaded I ask questions and make up my own mind I always say yes I will say never say no directly I would want to please I say, maybe, I might, let me see, a lot I feel I have no choice but to say yes My job is to say yes The money made me do it I can’t afford to say no I can’t afford to say yes *I will do what I’m told to, most of the time, it makes things easier, but there will be some umming and ahing about it. p. 20

BRIEF: BEHAVIOUR p. 21 WHOSE BEHAVIOUR DO Professional practice and work experience in graphic design DESIGNERS NEED TO CHANGE? IN ORDER OF URGENCY 1 The Government 2 The Policy Makers 3 The Commercial Businesses 4 The Employers 5 The Unemployed 6 The Uneducated 7 The Workers 8 The Consumers 9 The Smokers 10 The People with Degrees 11 The Cultural Institutions 12 The Charities

Professional practice and work experience in graphic design BRIEF: BEHAVIOUR It’s hard to know whose behaviour needs changing the most, I could change one persons outlook, but that wouldn’t make a lot of difference, maybe that is okay. But then I was thinking about big changes too, which led me to think if designers can change the behaviour of the people who tell everyone else what to do, that would have the greatest effect, as they are the ones who have to power to made real changes. Now I think it’s an idealistic view, and the more I think about it the less I believe to be true, but it was at the time of designing this poster. p. 22

BRIEF:GALLERIES BANNER Professional practice and work experience in graphic design p. 30

p. 31 I was slow of the mark when it came to designing Professional practice and work experience in graphic design this banner, didn’t have a design ready for submission, but worked on this afterwards. My outcome is a simple monochrome design using Agrandir. It took me awhile to come up with a purely typographic design, and still I’m relayed on the colour block to make an impact.
