And, at the Bhara- tiya Vidya Bhavan we reach out to the student com- munity to excel in both academic and co-curricular activities giving impetus to human values raising them to be responsible citizen of the countries they live. This is unique to Bhavan. The Bhavan’s institu- tions both in India and abroad are committed to im- parting quality education. The Bhavan’s school in Bahrain, Kuwait, and UAE have been playing an important role in the Middle East by providing quality education. We wish all the students a bright career ahead. N.K.RAMACHANDRAN CHAIRMAN BHARATIYA VIDYA BHAVAN MIDDLE EAST 50, 40, 30, or even 20 years back – children were focused on age appropriate matters – be it their education and cultural activities in school, responsibilities at home or the social community they lived in. Character building was the essence in school and at home. Individual satisfaction and personal needs were not given importance or priorities. The change from then to now is visible at every home – The attitude of parents and children at every home –now it is far different from the way it was back then. Change is necessary and even mandated as generations pass. But we, as a school, believe that culture and values should remain the same and be the solid foundation of every home for generations. During the last 15 years of my 24/7 involvement with children, parents and teachers, I am really surprised or in fact more sad- dened to see the current level of attitude of children from class 3 onwards. Maybe I belong to an older generation or still continue with the old school of thoughts. But I believe many of the chil- dren are diverting from their proper path, and chasing things that are not age appropriate, and not at all necessary in these years of their life. This will ultimately lead to more children being trapped in a whirlwind of activities and emotions that divert their attention and focus from matters most essential to set their future on track. Many of the children are in the trap. DHRISHTI 2021-22 12
I am very sure that as a parent you belong to one of these parent groups – either the ‘trapped’, or the possibly ‘going to be trapped’. During several interactions with parents it has come to my notice that there are a number of instances where children lack respect, cases where they retort and answer back, and yell at, when even the slightest or basic questions are asked at home, but the very same child is obedient and mostly well-behaved at school. Yesterday I heard from my senior leadership team that grade 8 children have started answering back to Principal and Vice Principals. In the last couple of months, I have seen lots of such unhealthy incidents which warrant parents’ immediate intervention. I am sure many parents are experiencing the same, or similar situations at home, as well. Our children grow physically, and they may be aware of many things not necessary for their age because of increased social media presence – but their emo- tional responsibility level is still that of a child and not of an adult. They need to understand the impact of their words and actions and take responsibility for the effects of the same. At Bhavans we believe in character building which is the foun- dation of any child for a better tomorrow, better future. Edu- cation will follow automatically. Parents are requested to com- municate with the senior management team of the school as and when necessary to discuss the progress of their children in all matters of their growth or when you feel there is a visible change in child’s attitude and behavior. Let’s work together for a better tomorrow. Trust us, we are with you. DHRISHTI 2021-22 13
SOORAJ .K RAMACHANDRAN VICE-CHAIRMAN BHARATIYA VIDYA BHAVAN MIDDLE EAST Dear Students / Teachers / Parents, It gives me immense pleasure to contribute to this issue of our Annual School Magazine. Each year, the school magazine outlines the progress that the school has made during the previous academic year and recapit- ulates all events, showcasing the various activities of the school. This year has passed swiftly in a blur of achievements and accomplishments, and I would like to congratulate and extend my best wishes to all those who have worked hard to ensure that the magazine remains a treasure trove of memories. To me, the magazine will always be an event-filled journal, chronicling another exciting year that will be cherished by our students in the years to come. Through this magazine, I would like to greet all the stake holders of our school family. As a school, something that we have always believed in is, Home is the first school and school is the second home. This has come so true today with COVID19. As we continue to wrestle with the implications of the situation, homes and how our children learn have become far more im- portant than it may ever have been. When things started to fall out of place and we were forced to get our- selves prepared for facets of our life that we had never encountered and when homes were where the action moved to – learn from home, teach from home, work from home, assessments from home – I think the one thing we at Bhavans realized was that – this is going to take some time. As is often said, it is always better to use a compass over a map to navigate a world of uncertainty, We realized we needed to block the negatives out and think like a monk on how we wanted to take the academic year for- ward. We knew we didn’t want to sit around and wait for things to unfold, but rather we wanted to make things happen. Unfortunately, when we are a school and when there is a little chaos around and when we have im- pressionable minds looking at the school to see what will happen next – it leaves very little margin for the school to be unprepared and to seem un- settled. As far as we as a school was concerned, it was our topmost priori- ty to give the confidence that things would be as normal as they could, and we would continue to do what we do. DHRISHTI 2021-22 14
That is teach – educate – provide opportunities – allow children to have their fun and much more – all while they continued to trod the path to be a Global Citizen. A disruption shouldn’t have to stop that march. We have always told parents in our school that we are keen on guiding children into the future who will be passionate about their work and who will want to strive to make a difference in whatever they do and will stay the course in a very uncertain world. True – we did improvise – like building our partnership with parents and children and getting them to correct answer papers based on our marking schemes thereby building mutual trust and honesty, being a little flexible with our time tables and increasing the class duration which gave teachers and children that little time to adapt and adjust to the online platform, continue with the numerous activities – song / dance / music all online for children, do virtual summer camps, virtual sports days, class photo sessions with children sitting at home and of course the school annual day. We were always conscious that these uncertain times would pass and would never be permanent and when our children and teachers come back to school, they wouldn’t realise that there was one year of the so called ‘new normal’.Our team of teachers at Bhavans has ensured that we stayed the course and remained committed to our task and in the pro- cess also ensured that we paid attention to not only the small things but also the bigger things like mental, physical and emotional well-being of our teachers and students and ensuring that we all remained healthy and happy. As we turn the corner and start to see the glimpse of hope that sooner rather than later, we are all going to get back to, as a school we can be rest assured that our teachers have done and are doing their best to keep our children engaged and active as we all navigate and turn the corner. We may still not have reached the end of the roller coaster ride, but we can take pride in the fact that we have reached the top of a mountain even if that maybe the bottom of the next one. In this regard, BHAVANS owes much to its dynamic leadership whose untiring efforts have resulted in the overall development of the School. I would also like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to all our staff members for their dedication and hard work that has ensured that our flag is always flying high. Kudos to the parents and children for travelling together with us and making sure that we ended the Academic year on a high. I pray that the Almighty God continues to bless all of us and help us get through this very difficult time. Signing off with a variation of an inspired Quote of Albert Einstein – At Bhavans, we don’t teach our children. We create conditions for them to learn. I Thank You Once Again. DHRISHTI 2021-22 15
DIVYA RAJESH RAMACHANDRAN DIRECTOR BHARATIYA VIDYA BHAVAN MIDDLE EAST Dear All, An ending always gives hope to new beginnings. With the end of the aca- demic year 2021-22, we see some hope for schools returning back, in some form to the way things were with pre-covid. A change as big and as impact- ful as the Covid 19 pandemic would not leave without some hard-hitting impact. Two years of online education have robbed our students of the classroom learnings and of experiences that can only be had from school. “ When you take risks, you learn that there will be times when you succeed and there will be times when you fail, and both are equally important.” ‘ Ellen de Generes Over the last two years, we have tried lots of new things and innovated our teaching methodologies, across the Bhavans schools in the Middle East, to make sure that the children do not miss out on a wholesome schooling experience – the best possible under the circumstances. Now this is not an easy task and requires us to take our responsibilities very seriously and constantly evaluate and innovate our strategies as well as our teaching techniques to be able to walk our talk. We do not just say things – but focus on doing and proving ourselves. The results of our efforts are our happy and confident children who are constantly challenged to build upon their strengths and work on their weaknesses. We are confident that we have retained our benchmark standards during the online classes and yet we are also aware of the realities that there would be gaps in the teaching – learning process in spite of our best intentions and methods. DHRISHTI 2021-22 16
Having said this the academic year 2021-22 has played out very well and our performances would be testimony to more successes than failures. We believe the Covid years have made most of us resilient and ready to face any challenge and that we feel is the success story, the silver lining amongst dark clouds. We look forward to a whole new year with lots of energy, vigour and ideas. The school magazine is a very important platform that showcases in a nutshell all that we strive to do at our school. The vision and mission of the institution is framed to ensure that we provide world class education to our children so as to mould future global citizens who are capable of contributing effectively to the society in all aspects. Our children are trained to be independent and logical thinkers who grab information and opportunities as they pass by. We try and ensure that the children of today understand and are aware of global issues and concerns and be accepting of differences between people while finding an empathy within themselves. We strive to ensure that our children are exposed to and be appreciative of the culture and values of our home country and the coun- try of our dwelling in particular and the world in general. I would like to congratulate the school editorial team on their wonderful effort. I would like to thank the parents for their trust and confidence in us and for choosing the Bhavans in the Middle East to be their child’s alma mater. Together we can be true champions of our children who de- serve nothing but the best. With gratitude for the year gone by and hopes for a promising new aca- demic year. Divya Rajesh Ramachandran Director LET NOBLE THOUGHTS COME TO US FROM EVERYSIDE. DHRISHTI 2021-22 17

Ms.Priya Paul CHIEF EDITOR BPWS-AL AIN This year has seen some of the most unprecedented events, mankind has ever wit- nessed. The intensity and impact of Pandemic of COVID-19 has not only changed our life, lifestyle and thought processes but has also left a significant impact on the ways and working of academics. It seems as if everything has come to a standstill after the lockdown. But the silver lining is the way education sector has reacted and responded to these unexpected times. The speed at which this sector adopted and shifted to the alternate mode of imparting education, is indeed commendable. The education and its related research sectors are now experiencing a paradigm shift of moving from p-learning to e-learning and now to m-learning. This technological advancement has opened up new avenues and prospects for researchers and academicians across the world. Let us pray to the almighty that the new normal resumes fast. Dedicated. Smart. Fearless. Strong. Eager… to change the world. Willing to stay up late and awake before dawn to pursue their passion. Those are just a few words that describe some of the Pearl students you will meet in the pages of this issue. As my team and I pulled together the articles and images, we couldn’t stop talking about them. “Wow, look at this student!” “No, look what this one has done!” Our school is an incarnation of self-respect, love, affection, sensibility; responsibility and compassion which puts the students into a “State of flow” and makes them genu- inely want to learn. We recognize, appreciate, applaud and foster the fine blend of sensibilities in a child changing a negative outlook from drab and demoralized to bright and expectant. Serving as the magazine editor has always been a part of my role that I have loved, and I take great pride in creating a quality publication that accurately reflects the institution it represents. Our sincere thanks to all the contributors for their support and interest. It gives me immense pleasure to ensure that this magazine has successfully accom- plished its objective. The reflection of the students’ creativity and achievements is the epitome of the magazine. Students have put forth their ideas and thoughts that are too deep to be expressed and too strong to be suppressed. This magazine is before you as the combined efforts of the Editorial Board, I take the opportunity to thank all the contributors as their contribution is the reason that makes this magazine endearing with our readers.
