E-Twinning z 2nd Group : Animals and Nature
z
z Scientists have recently estimated that there are approximately 8.7 million species on Earth. They believe that 1-2 million of those species are animals. And what do wezknow about all those species? Not much! The same study estimates that 86% of all land species and 91% of all sea species have not yet been discovered or described!
z
z What is the position of animals among humans ? Are they able to adapt today’s modern life ?

Extinction is the termination of a kind of organism or of a group of kinds, usually a species. There had been mass animal extinctions in the past, mostly caused by natural issues. Types of extinctions: 1. Natural Caused Extinctions 2. Human Caused Extinctions
Natural Caused Extinctions Competition between specieses, diseases, drought, natural disasters, invasive specieses…
Human Caused Extinctions z Removing natural habitats, over harvesting, pollution, global warming, wildlife trade…
z Here are some examples of extinct animals that had been lived for many years : z

APIS IS THE BEE, AN INSECT OF THE APIDAE FAMILY, OF THE ORDER OF THE HYMENOPTERA. THE TERM BEE COMMONLY INDICATES THE DOMESTIC BEE (APIS MELLIFICA), OF WHICH VARIOUS BREEDS ARE BRED, INCLUDING THE ITALIAN ONE.
“If bees disappeared off the face of the earth, man would only have four years left to live.” A. Eistein
BEEKEEPING IS THE BREEDING OF BEES IN ORDER TO EXPLOIT THE PRODUCTS OF THE HIVE WHERE THIS MEANS A HIVE POPULATED BY A FAMILY OF BEES. THE \"RATIONAL\" HIVES ARE THEREFORE THE MODULAR STRUCTURES STRUCTURED WITH MOBILE HONEYCOMBS WHERE THE BEEKEEPER SHELTERS THE BEES. THE MOST PRIMITIVE HIVES DID NOT HAVE MOBILE COMBS AND WERE CALLED BUGNO OR \"BUGNO VILLICO\". ALTHOUGH THE SPECIES BRED ARE DIFFERENT, THE APIS MELLIFERA HAS A CLEAR PREDOMINANCE DUE TO ITS PRODUCTIVITY. THE BEEKEEPER'S JOB BASICALLY CONSISTS IN PROVIDING BEES WITH SHELTER AND CARE, AND WATCHING OVER THEIR DEVELOPMENT; IN EXCHANGE HE COLLECTS A FAIR SHARE OF THEIR PRODUCT, CONSISTING OF: HONEY, POLLEN, BEESWAX, ROYAL JELLY, PROPOLIS, POISON.
The loss of vital pollinators, due in part to extreme temperatures and fluctuations, could have disastrous consequences for ecosystems and agriculture. Bees, among the most important pollinators, are in trouble. Fuzzy and buzzing, they excel at spreading pollen and fertilizing many types of wild flora, as well as crucial agricultural crops like tomatoes, blueberries, and squash.
The Causes of extinction of bees: • Invasive predators, parasites and disease-causing bacteria called “pathogens” have been blamed for the collapse of honeybee colonies around the world. • Pollution – particularly from exposure to pesticides – is a key cause of pollinator decline. If bees disappeared off the face of the earth, man would only have four years left to live. The line is usually attributed to Einstein, and it seems plausible enough. Without bees, the availability and diversity of fresh produce would decline substantially, and human nutrition would likely suffer. Crops that would not be cost-effective to hand- or robot- pollinate would likely be lost or persist only with the dedication of human hobbyists.
Possible solution This photo represents the breeding of bees on a terrace of a building. Many cities, in Italy, France, UK, are picking up beekeeping to both combat declining bee populations and help boost local agriculture and business. They are investing in urban beekeeping. Contrary to what one might expect, urban bees survive better, produce more honey, and are healthier than rural bees. In italy the URBEES project has an objective: to find an alternative habitat to the countryside. First of all through the collection of swarms and the management of urban apiaries that are made available to citizens.
This photo represents the This one, on the other hand, breeding of bees in nature. describes free bees in nature.
ORESTS & PLANTSF Nature is the set of living beings and flora, it is very important for life on earth because without it that produces oxygen there would be no life. Conserving biodiversity means maintaining the variety of species and genetic resources.
