09 PROGRAMME PARTNER MESSAGE Making a film has always been a difficult and challenging endeavour. The COVID-19 pandemic has presented additional obstacles to filmmakers, and they have had to navigate ways to create films under more restrictions and safety concerns. It has been encouraging to see filmmakers make the best out of this situation, and continue to tell their stories through the film medium. The films from this year’s nominees are a diverse mix. The topics explored range from the emotional trauma of the pandemic, new beginnings, and bizarre environments, to the intricate yet complicated relationships we have with families. These films reflect the joy, sadness, fear, and hope of life through the eyes of our filmmakers. The National Youth Film Awards (NYFA) is the platform for young filmmakers to thrive and shine, providing valuable support and network for them. As the programme partner of NYFA this year, Objectifs is excited to champion the voices of young filmmakers together with *SCAPE and its partners, as we forge ahead to create a space for filmmakers to pursue their creative journey. It is wonderful to create and to witness how everything comes together beautifully in film as in life. I am humbled to be given the NYFA Youth Inspiration Award. Thank you *SCAPE, National Youth Council (NYC) and Objectifs for the recognition. I take it extremely seriously to dream, to push boundaries, to always put out the best and most sincere work possible.
