Non-immersion - Abrasive blast to Commercial Finish, SSPC-SP-6 or NACE3; BS Third Quality b. Immersion - Abrasive blast to Near White Finish, SSPC-SP-10 or NACE2; BS Second Quality Coal Tar Epoxy is self-priming but if priming required, use 2 pack Zinc Rich Epoxy Primer or other 2 Pack Epoxy Metal Primer. Coatings should be applied immediately after blast cleaning. Concrete: Acid etch the surface with 10% muriatic acid solution, applied at 1 litre to 5 sq.m. (55 sq.ft.) for 10-15 mins. Rinse with clean water and allow to dry out. Then apply two coats of Kaleidoscope Marine Enamel. PREVIOUSLY PAINTED: Remove wax, grease, dirt or flaking material. Remove rust with Kaleidoscope Rust Converter and spot prime bare metal areas with Kaleidoscope Zinc Chromate Metal Primer. Allow to dry over night. Then apply one or two coats of Kaleidoscope Marine Enamel by brush, roller or spray. For brush application – thin with 370ml Kaleidoscope 2000 Thinners. Decorative & Architectural Technical Data Sheet M102-STD (Rev 1/2021) PRODUCT NAME: MARINE CLEAR VARNISH General Surface Preparation & Directions for Use NEW WOOD SURFACE PREPARTION: The secret of a successful paint job is a proper surface preparation. Surfaces MUST be free of anything which could adversely affect the adhesion of this coating to the surface including loose, scaling, peeling, blistering, chipping, cracking, flaking, chalking or powdering paint: dust, dirt, sand, soot, grease, oil, tar, wax, soap, film, lye, lime, salt, chlorine, effloresces, or any other chemically reactive substance; and must be completely free of all mold, fungus, mildew or any other growing organism of any kind. Infirm substances MUST be made firm. If dirt, grease, oil etc are present, completely remove by cleaning thoroughly with KPL 2000 Thinner. All traces of paint remover, varnish remover or liquid sandpaper must be eliminated. Patch all cracks, and when dry, sand smooth and seal. You should have a completely clean and firm surface before any new coating is applied. PREVIOUSLY FINISHED SURFACES: Follow surface preparation instructions above. Surface should be sanded thoroughly to remove all gloss and provide a roughened surface for adhesion. Just before applying, surface should be wiped with a clean, lint free cloth, dampened with KPL 2000 Thinners, to remove all traces of dust. Kaleidoscope Marine Varnish is packed ready for use by brush or roller. For spraying add 470 ml of Kaleidoscope 2000 Thinners per 3.785 L. Always stir well before use and allow over night drying between coats. For maximum results sand lightly before second and third application. Read label prior to use.
