Childhood is the period of physical growth and the time when great attention and care must be paid to one’s physical development. ACTIVITY: Children were taken to the ground for recreational games one of which is „cat and the rat‟. Children were asked to form a circle with one child within and without the circle. The child within the circle is the „rat‟ and the child outside is the „cat‟. The cat tries to catch the rat, while the children try to protect the rat by not allowing the cat inside the circle. Children participated with full enthusiasm and involvement. A Tamil song, which emphasises the importance of our traditional food was taught to the children. The traditional Tamil food which contains all the six tastes (arusuvai), is rightly called the best medicine (unaveynammurundhu). The song also throws light on how we have deviated from our tradition and traditional food and thereby are victims of many unwanted problems. LEARNING The children learnt the most predominant message; that the modern OUTCOME: food (junk food) which is in trend is not healthy and therefore, it is high time we go back to our traditional food.

ACTIVITY: This game gives students an opportunity to work as a team with developing strategies which makes their team a successful one. This game also provides students with an excellent cardiovascular workout by constant movement. After explaining the rules of the game, the students were split into two equal teams, one team as the chaser and the other as defender. Both the teams swap their role once in five minutes. LEARNING This game facilitates motion and muscular development among the OUTCOME: children. Students become strong and alert. Playing with the classmates makes them emotionally attached to each other. They learn to cooperate with each other and qualities like leadership, patience, team spirit, adjustment and perseverance are inculcated.

Students were instructed the rules of playing volley ball, how to execute under arm pass and over hand pass accordingly, and students were able to learn the rules and play. Once the rules were learnt, children were able to play with ease and they showeda lot of interest. Steps to perform Pawanamuktasana: Lie flat on the back, bend both knees and bring the thighs to the chest, interlock the fingers and clasp the hands on the shin bones just below the knees. Inhale deeply, exhaling raise the head and shoulders and try to place the nose in the space between the two knees. Hold the raised position for few seconds. Slowly lower the head, shoulders and legs while inhaling. The benefits of this asana: To increase digestive power, Helps to deal constipation by stimulating the abdominal region, Releasing trapped gas from the stomach, Dissolve extra fat deposited in the abdominal region, Strengthens the lower back muscles. Steps to perform Anulomaviloma pranayama: Sit in any comfortable posture like padmasana, sukhasana or siddhasana with herd trunk in a straight line. Left hand in chin mudra. Use right hand thumb and ring figure to close the nostrils. Release the thumb finger and breathe in throw right nostril, close your right nostril, release the ring finger and breathe out through left nostril. Repeat this for 5 to 10 minutes. Benefits of this pranayama: Lungs, heart and stomach get purified, Rhythmic breathing, Lungs capacity increases, curing the diseases pertaining to lungs, Heart beat get normalized. LEARNING By doing this pranayama regularly students are able to breathe OUTCOME: rhythmically with increased lung capacity. This pranayama also helps to improve concentration.

To enable the children to know about the ways to prevent the juvenile diabetes. As a part of the Eco – club activity an awareness campaign on juvenile diabetes was initiated by the students of STD- VI to create awareness on causes, symptoms and preventive measures of Juvenile diabetes - a disease which appears during childhood or adolescence. Students exhibited the placards on symptoms and preventive measures of the disease and explained that the body immune system – (which normally fights harmful bacteria and viruses ) by mistake destroys insulin producing islet cells in the pancreas, genetics, self- medication and unhealthy food habits (Junk food) are some of the causes for juvenile diabetes. Students came to know about the ill – effects of junk food on their health. LEARNING Through this activity students understood that the balanced diet, OUTCOME: stress free environment, regular exercise and reduced intake of junk food keep them away from the chronic disease – juvenile diabetes.

OBJECTIVE: Universal outlook-to view themselves as a responsible citizen of ACTIVITY: the world by maintaining „A Sound Mind in a Sound Body‟. Emphasising the health maintenance and sustainability, CBSE has initiated “FIT INDIA” movement. It is a systematic plan which can be easily adopted by all levels of children. Students of all classes have done some exercises based on free hand. The drill, was in such a way that anyone could practice anywhere. LEARNING An awareness was created in young minds about the understanding OUTCOME: for regular physical activity & higher level of fitness which enhances their self-esteem & confidence.

ACTIVITY: Medical (General Health check-up), Eye-screening and Dental check-up camps were conducted in our Vidyalaya on 6.01.2020 Indian Dental Association (IDA) Thiruvallur, collaborated with KC Multi Specialty Hospital and organized the eye screening, dental check-up and general health check-up for the students from classes I to X. Health examinations and tests at the early stages of the illness can help the students to get cured faster. LEARNING Children understood that health care is a basic right of a human OUTCOME: being, especially for children it is a must. They also understood the importance of their basic health care and learnt some basic tips how to take care of their eyes and teeth. They felt that they are most responsible for their good health at this early stage to be a healthy person.

Mental development aims at making the child an emotionally balanced personality. It thereby helps him/her to live in harmony with himself/herself and the world. OBJECTIVE: ACTIVITY: To enable emotional learning through pictures and signs. Children were made to stand in pairs. One child from each group was asked to draw a message which he wanted to pass on to his friend. The other children from each group were called and asked to guess the message. The whole class took part in this activity enthusiastically. The children also felt happy in exchanging their thoughts through pictures. They understood that in olden days the early men communicated with each other through pictures and signs. With pictures one can convey more information than with words.
