5-8 years old Jacob Vu Jacob & Me Watercolour Pencil on Paper St Mary’s Catholic Primary School Georges Hall My artwork is about me and my pet bird. We are both called Jacob! I drew my pet bird because my dad released him into the wild and I miss him. I used watercolour pencil because it helps me to shade better and make my artwork realistic. Rylan Nohra) My Amazing Mum Watercolour on Paper St Mary’s Catholic Primary School Georges Hall I chose to create an artwork of my mother because she is very nice. My mum is a photographer so she always takes photos of me and I wanted to take a picture of her for a change. I sketched with pencil and used watercolour pencils to add detail and colour. 6

I included lots of detail and colour. I chose red and orange as a background because I thought it would really stand out.I used watercolour pencils because it allowed me to blend colours well. 7

Sofia Amedov Evelyn Vyner Sofia of Paradise My sister Watercolor on Paper Mixed Media on Paper St Mary’s Catholic Primary School Georges Hall St Catherine Labouré Catholic Primary School Gymea My artwork is of me standing in front of my Bird of I have drawn my sister Alexandra. She is 22 and I’ve never Paradise. It is based on a photo of me which I took drawn her before. I hope she likes it. on my first day in my new soccer team. I love nature and soccer so I thought it was a great photo. I used watercolour pencils so that my artwork would not smudge. Hanna Gu Rainbow Portrait Mixed Media on Paper St Patrick’s Catholic Primary School Kogarah Howard Finster inspired me to draw and paint this picture. This is a self-portrait. I drew black hair for myself with some of my hair out, falling over my shoulders. So my painting would look bright and beautiful, I drew rainbow clothes and I painted a yellow background so it would look sunny. The blue ribbon in my hair represents our school colours. The words in the background tell you a little about me. 9

Anais Wilson Sky Blue Mixed Media on Paper St Patrick’s Catholic Primary School Kogarah This work I created is based on Howard Finster whose creative works of art inspired me. I like the way he writes important messages in the background of his artworks. My favourite artwork by Howard Finster is called, “To Reach All The World.” “Sky Blue ‘’ is a self-portrait of me and is about what I am interested in, the activities I enjoy, some of my favourite things and what I would like to become when I grow up. I named my artwork “Sky Blue” because it is my favourite colour and I like looking up at the sky and seeing it a nice, clear and calm shade of blue. 10

Valentina Vella (7 Years) My Coloured World Watercolour on Paper St Mary’s Catholic Primary School Georges Hall My artwork is about myself because I love colour! Blue, purple & pink are my favourite colours. I used watercolour pencils for my sketch because it helped me to blend the colours and watercolour paints for the background because it is bright and stands out. 11

5-8 years old Hayden Trinh (7 Years) My smart and silly grandpa Lead Pencil on Paper St Patrick’s Catholic Primary School Mortlake My grandpa’s name is Lawrence. He is 84 years old and he has one bad leg because he had hip surgery. He uses a walking stick to walk. He can now drive me to shopping and swimming. He likes to quiz me on math. He is special to me because he is my one and only grandpa. I enjoy going to my grandpa’s house every school holiday. We spend time together and have tea and eat Krispy Kreme’s. My grandpa is smart because the first time we were playing Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, he beat me! He is also silly because he pranks me. But I still love him very much because he is my amazing grandpa. I drew a portrait of my grandpa because I appreciate him very much. I used pencil to sketch the drawing. Lucy Chan (8 Years) Alex Coloured Pencil on Paper St Patrick’s Catholic Primary School Mortlake This is my brother Alex. I picked him because I care about him and I thought he would be fun to draw. He has blue eyes. I used coloured pencils to draw my picture. 12

5-8 YEARS CATEGORY WINNER Sonia Zang My Brother is Cool Mixed Media on Paper St Patrick’s Catholic Primary School Mortlake My brother Winfred was chosen because I see him every day and he’s funny and active. I love how he always manages to find a way to... laugh I mean how? This artwork is a picture of my brother playing the cello he is very good and I definitely think he should enter a show. I made this art with A3 paper, HB pencils, colour pencils and coloured markers. The moral of this picture is to try your best at musical instruments because if you put in the effort you can do anything! I hope you like this portrait I tried my very best to make this look good. 13

I think it looks like him. things. I decided to paint her with acrylic paint and a small acrylic brush. She is important to me because she is always kind and helps me practise for NAPLAN. In my picture, the light is coming onto her face from the left so I shaded her face on the right side. I mixed her shirt colour using blue and a lot of yellow paint. All of the skin colour was made by mixing different amounts of red, yellow and white paint. I painted her because I love her. I chose pink, black, blue, red and green watercolours. 15

He is roughly taller than me and plays rugby like me. He is loving and I picked him because he is kind, nice and a caring person. We always build Lego together. I saw him at Christmas. He is funny. Raff is a very good friend and a good person. I know he cares because once when he lost his brother at school, he went all over the Kindy playground to find him. He is important to me because whenever I am hurt he makes me laugh. He is my best friend and we both like soccer. He sticks up for me, helps me to learn and I trust him. He has a big heart and shares. I like him very much. 16

She plaits my hair and takes me to the park. She cooks for me and plays with me. She reads to me. My mummy is kind. She brings me to school. The best thing about my mummy is she plays with me. We were learning about the famous artist Edvard under the water. I saw some fish and It made me smile. Munch’s artwork ‘The Scream’. We thought about what the man in the picture might be screaming about. I wanted my portrait to be happier. Amalia Mangini Hello Friends Under The Water Wax Resist-Crayon and Acrylic on Paper Regina Coeli Catholic Primary School Beverly Hills We were talking about our holidays in class and I imagined this portrait of me if I could go under the water and see the fish and sea creatures in the ocean. 21

5-8 years old Amber Dempsey My Hero Oil Pastel on Paper My Hero St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School Como Oyster Bay I chose to draw my brother’s friend Orlando in his school uniform because he is the best person I know. He is in Year 5 and when I was sad he brought me hope. I am the smallest in my grade at school and when I was in Kindy the older kids used to pick on me and try to pick me up. Orlando would protect me and keep me safe. Now that I am older I can protect myself. I chose crayons as you can glide your hand across the page. I did the background as fire because sometimes Orlando doesn’t control his anger. Nina Nguyen I love my Mum Coloured Pencil on Paper Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School Cabramatta I drew my mum because I love her. She showers me and takes care of me all the time. 22

Jack Robinson My Nana Detta Coloured Pencil on Paper St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School Como Oyster Bay I love my Nana Detta so much, she gives me the best cuddles and is always happy to see me. She is really kind to my sister and I, and when she comes to visit she always brings us a treat. She loves to snuggle up with us on the lounge and says this is her favourite time of the week. I love my Nana Detta’s smile and her kind eyes. For this artwork I used crayons and coloured pencils. I started by drawing an outline with lead pencil and then carefully coloured it in. I enjoyed drawing my Nana. 23

I chose to draw Evie in this way because when she gets mad she is like a storm, but she always finds her Rainbow and feels better. I used bright coloured pencils on paper to make this artwork. When people see my artwork I want them to remember that when you get angry or sad you can always find your rainbow by calming your thoughts and knowing that your friends will always be there on the other side. 24

Lucy Fitzgerald My Sister Pippa Oil Pastel on Paper St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School Como Oyster Bay I have drawn a picture of my sister Philippa, but she prefers Pippa. Pippa is a very talented and a skilled gymnast. She can do a double backflip on the beam. She is always willing to teach me more and more gymnastic tricks. Pippa comes into my room every night to say “goodnight” a GAZILLIAN times!!!! Also I love dancing and hanging out with her because she is funny and entertaining. So that is why I chose to draw her. Siann de Silva The Mona Lucia Coloured Pencil on Paper St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School Como Oyster Bay I chose to draw my friend Lucia Minns because she always greets me with a smile when I come to school. I chose to do a sunny background because Lucia is almost always happy. Art for me is not just about trying to make a photo but to show what the person means to me. I have tried to capture all of Lucia’s unique features in my art and bring them to life in a new way. In this piece I used coloured pencils so I could be precise. 25

He likes playing xbox games with his headphones on so he can talk to his friends. Although he does this alot he still plays with me too. He is a really nice brother, I like hanging out with him. Whenever my brothers and sisters want to play with me I will always play with them and never be mean. Making people laugh is so much fun. 26

She has a lot of fun and happy energy that’s why I love her so much. She always shares with me stories of her Portuguese background. 27

He is such a kind and gentle man who cares for me alot. This is a watercolour portrait of him from when I saw him last, I think it shows how kind and caring he is. It was taken 5 years ago, it has been a while since I have seen him. 28

I chose to draw her because she is kind, lovely and she inspires me in many things like art and sport She also inspires me by working hard in her job. My mum also has a crazy boy called Fletcher and she manages to take good care of the both of us. 29

5-8 years old Lilah Filippakis It Starts With Art Oil Pastel on Paper St Mark’s Catholic Primary School Drummoyne This painting is of my art teacher named Julie. The reason I chose her is because she always inspires me to be an artist. I’ve been improving so much in my art because she teaches me so many art skills like making colours, drawing and much more. I always wish to be like her when I’m older. Julie also is a mum of three and has two dogs. She is also well known in the community as she runs an art studio\\gallery which me and my friends go, this place is called Julie Peadon art. She’s very nice and always helps me when I make a mistake. I used oil pastels to create my portrait. Neave Murdoch Granny Acrylic Paint on Paper St Mark’s Catholic Primary School Drummoyne This is my Granny. She is special to me because she shows me how to be kind, caring and inclusive. She also makes me laugh and tells me great stories about when she was a kid. \\I used acrylic paint to create this portrait. My Granny doesn’t have hair at the moment, but this painting shows her growing back rainbow hair which I think would be the best hair ever! 30

He is my best friend and is very special to me which is why I wanted to draw him. I love him because he spends time with me. We both like the same things and our favourite food is MacDonalds. Her name is Laura. She is very young and beautiful for a granny. She is a make-up artist and loves wearing lots of make-up. I love her and she is very close to me. We love to go shopping together and play Rummikub and she is the best cook. 31

5-8 years old Flynn Brogan My Dad, Andrew Coloured Pencil on Paper St Mary’s Catholic Primary School Erskineville I chose to draw my dad. His name is Andrew. I love spending time with my dad because he is kind and helps me paint Warhammer figurines and plays minecraft with me. He encourages me to use my imagination and, when I need someone my dad is always there. He sits with me at night when I find it hard to sleep and makes me feel safe. I chose to use coloured pencils because I am good with them and paint gets everywhere and rips the paper if you do a few coats. But with pencil you get the right colours with less mess. 32

I chose to draw artist self in my school uniform I love my brother and he makes life lots of fun. because it is at school where I learnt to draw. Kyan was drawn using colour pencils Drawing makes me feel unique and gives me great joy. I especially like drawing self portraits because I enjoy drawing body parts. I blended pencils with oil pastels to touch up my background and make it smoother and more vibrant. 33

I drew him with a round body and a big smile because he is so chubby and he laughs at me when I play with him. I drew a bright colourful background because he is so happy all the time. My baby brother is the cutest little brother in the world. Luna Hanapie My Cousin Chelsea Coloured Pencil on Paper Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Primary School Kingsgrove My cousin Chelsea is significant to me because she is so fun to be around. We play games together and have sleepovers. I used her favourite colours in the background and a big smile because she always smiles, but sometimes she pretends to cry. 34

I choose to paint myself because I am special and I know myself so well. I tried really hard on this portrait and think I painted some great colours for the hair. 35

I I painted a portrait of myself because I know myself completed it using watercolour paints and pencils. I very well. I used watercolour paints and painted myself used blue for my hoodie and background as I love the using realistic colours. I included some detailed flowers colour blue and so does my family. I enjoyed painting in the background to make my portrait lovely and my hair and thought the colour turned out great, just bright. I also included a sewing machine in my artwork like my own hair! as I love to sew scrunchies and covid masks. Frankie-Rose Mirabella La Luna Mixed Media on Paper St Fiacre’s Catholic Primary School Leichhardt My portrait is of my baby cousin Luna who I love very much. I completed my work using pencils and watercolour paints. I collaged the face of Luna to represent that she doesn’t just come from Australia and she is actually from different countries and the different pieces of paper represent these countries. I painted clouds in the background to show how we come from a tall family so I drew Luna’s head up in the sky with the clouds. 37

I decided to paint myself because I like that I am unique and happy. I included a book on myself because I love reading books. I painted my background with bright colours as I am often happy. Lewelen Jessup Mandalorian Acrylic Paint on Paper St Columba’s Catholic Primary School Leichhardt North This is a portrait of me dressed up as Mandalorian. He’s from Star Wars. I watch him travel across the galaxy fighting bad guys and protecting Baby Yoda. I wanna be just like Mando when I grown up. He’s got cool blasters. 38

I used oil pastels and watercolour paints to complete my work. I love her dress in my artwork as it is one of my mum’s old dresses that I remember her being in.   Colette Cerkesas My Beautiful Mum Oil Pastel on Paper St Aidan’s Catholic Primary School Maroubra Junction I decided to do a portrait of my mum because she loves me so much. I used oil pastels and watercolour paints to complete my portrait. I used bright colours as my mum is always so happy and cheerful. Harry Maley My Friend Lead Pencil on Paper St Aidan’s Catholic Primary School Maroubra Junction I decided to do a portrait of my friend.  I choose my friend as she is kind and brightens up my day.  I used mainly lead pencils with only a small amount of colour to show how cheerful she is.  I really liked her hair in my portrait because it is lovely and wavy. Lawrence Chiu Me in Year 3 Watercolour Paint on Paper St Aidan’s Catholic Primary School Maroubra Junction I painted myself for my portrait.  I decided to paint myself because I am special and I am really good at soccer. I first drew myself and then painted my portrait with watercolour paints.  I really liked how I painted my shirt in light colours. 41

He really likes Colourful artworks so I drew him in a very colourful and fun way. 47
