Phrathat Bang Phuan is an ancient Chedi that is highly sacred to the people of Nong Khai province. Within the temple is also a replica of ‘Satta Mahasathan’ or the ‘seven great sites’ that Lord Buddha lived after his enlightenment. Then, visit Phrathat La Nong, which is also known as ‘Phrathat Klang Nam’ (literally translates to ‘Chedi in the middle of the water’) because the Chedi collapsed into the middle of the Mekong River. Legend has it that Phrathat La Nong enshrines 9 pieces of the Lord Buddha’s right foot bone, and the locals built a replica of the Chedi, containing some parts of the original one nearby. One was brought to Bangkok, while Luangpho Phra Sai was brought to be enshrined here. Festival Festivals at Wat Pho Chai The Bun Bang Fai Festival is organised on the full moon day of the 7th lunar month (around June) for devotees to pay homage to Luangpho Phra Sai, and during the Songkran (Thai New Year which is on 13 April) Festival, Luangpho Phra Sai is brought on a procession, so the locals can bathe the Buddha image in holy water for their blessing. 149 ISAN CULTURAL routes
