P R I N C I PA L S Laura was raised in Highland Park, NJ. During high school, the coin bug hit her hard. Her trip to the 1976 NYC ANA left a lasting mark and huge desire for her to own and handle the greatest rarities. While attending Monmouth University, Laura attended coin shows more than classes. After college, she started LSS RCI, a wholesale coin company. In 1986, she realized the need for a “better” coin retailer and teamed up in 1986 with George Huang to form Legend Numismatics. In 1996 Bruce Morelan became a partner and since then Legend has exclusively built or assisted in assembling this generation’s greatest collections. In 2012 Laura saw the need for a smaller, boutique auction firm, and created Legend-Morphy with Dan Morphy, whom she split with in 2014. Today, Laura is also a leading consumer advocate for coins. The passion has never subsided, and she keeps a beautiful Proof Walker on her desk to this day.Laura Sperber Bruce started collecting coins when he was only six years old and by the time he was in high school his Partner dream was to be a coin dealer. But life intervened and instead, Bruce went into business. By chance, he became Legend Numismatics’ financial backer in 1996. His great grandmother had given him three coinsBruce Morelan when he was young, one of which being a Trade Dollar, so he set out to build the finest Trade Dollar Partner set. After a few years with ultra rarities, Bruce returned to his love of dollars and completed both a set of Gobrechts and a set of Seated Dollars. Julie Abrams President After selling those sets, Bruce recently returned to dollars with a new Gobrecht set and a spectacular early dollar set capped by his dream coin, the Amon Carter 1794 Dollar. Not many collector’s can say they have completed not only the finest 1794-1885 Dollar Sets and have over the years owned such coins as two 1913 Liberty Head Nickels, an 1894-S Dime, 1876-CC Twenty Cent piece, 1827 Original and Restrike Quarters, 1838-O Half Dollar, two 1885 Trade Dollars and four 1884 Trade Dollars! Julie Abrams started in numismatics in 1986 when she joined up with Bernard Rome and launched Teletrade, the first computerized auction company. Teletrade developed a unique coin trading method, utilizing state-of-the-art digitized voice board technology to run live auctions before the advent of the internet. As President of Teletrade, Julie helped expand the company, increasing the frequency of auctions and expanding annual sales to $24 million within a few years. In 1999, GMAI, a publicly traded company, purchased Teletrade and Ms. Abrams became Executive Vice President of Sales for the parent company. Her job responsibilities included continuing her role as CEO for Teletrade as well as marketing to buyers and consignors, with the goal of maintaining a balance between inventory and sales while growing the business. In 2004 she joined Stacks-Bowers, an old world traditional auction house where she worked to expand their e-commerce presence, including the development of an online bidding platform for the firm. She also marketed Stacks’ programs to secure consignments from dealers and institutions such as banks, museums and universities. Julie is a member of the American Numismatic Association, the Central States Numismatic Association and Florida United Numismatists. THE IPSWICH COLLECTION Legend Rare Coin Auctions is honored to have been chosen to sell the phenomenal quality Ipswich GEM MS 3CS Collection. We assure everyone it is one of the top sets ever assembled. The collector has been passionate about 3CS pieces ever since he began collecting. Being a busy businessman, he had the means, and made the time to be able to attend shows and auctions to hand pick every coin with his trusted dealer. In several cases you can see the progression of him finding a better specimen. He knows the slight differences on every date. He was a stickler for both strong strikes and beautiful colors. We really can’t say enough about the coins in this collection. His favorite coin is the 1861 PCGS MS67 CAC. It has some of the wildest colors imaginable. He named it Sid Vicious. Pretty cool. He has other monster coins such as the 1859 PCGS MS66+ and the out of this world 1866 PCGS MS67+. His 1870 PCGS MS67 CAC (pop 2) is clearly one of the finest and rarest MS 3CS that exists. The majority of these coins can not be replicated. All the painstaking hard work has been done for you over many years by the Ipswich Collector. He is sad to let go of his little family, but he has other bigger projects he has been working on (we hope one day to auction them). These coins represent a bonanza for MS 3CS collectors. Do not be fooled by the pops, true GEM superbly colored pieces like these are hard to get. The opportunity Ipswich Collections offers may not be repeated for years. Good luck!8

LOT 28 1/2C 1797 C-1. 1 ABOVE 1. PCGS MS66 BN CAC EX MISSOURI CABINET COLLECTION A REMARKABLE, STUNNING GEM! Everything about this coin is IMPRESSIVE! A bold cartwheel luster actually rolls along the obverse surfaces which are smooth and free of any problems. Indeed any little mark or fissure is from using a cut down Talbot Allum and Lee Cent as a planchet. Evidence of the undertype can be seen at the lower left obverse periphery and at ICA on the reverse. Rich brown surfaces show hints of a steely blue patina, which is quite attractive, especially when the light hits it. The obverse strike is about as full as you could hope to ever see on a 1797 half cent, while we note a touch of peripheral weakness on the reverse. This coin is AMAZING to view in hand, just to contemplate the history behind it, and marvel at how, after nearly 220 years a COPPER coin can be so perfectly preserved, without any corrosion, carbon spots, or other issues that plague coins of this vintage. The U.S. mint did not produce their own copper planchets at this time. Most copper stock was sent over from England, but in 1797, the mint purchased the remaining 1794 and 1795 cent tokens produced by the New York firm Talbot, Allum, and Lee. These were then cut down to the proper size and weight for half cents and struck into new coins. As mentioned, portions of the original coin isvisible on this SUPERBLY preserved gem. Equally impressive is the fact that the provenance of this coin is traced back to the EdwardCogan May 1871 auction where it was plated as lot 878. It was then in the Virgil Brand Collection then part of the Brand Estate, sold to Burdette Johnson in 1935, went through the hands of various intermediaries until it was placed into The Tettenhorst Collection (Missouri Cabinet). PCGS 1, NGC 0, CAC 1. This is among the absolute FINEST 1797 C-1 in existence. It is the highest graded as a BN, and only asingle coin is graded as a 66 RB by PCGS (the Bushnell-Jackman-Foxfire-Pogue coin). The presently offered GEM is from an earlier die state than the RB Pogue coin and possesses a greater overall eye appeal, and it realized a much higher price, realizing $299,000 in the February 2014 auction of the Missouri Cabinet. The Pogue coin sold at the absolute bottom of the market, February 2016, realizing only $223,250. Now that the Pogue coin is put away again, this is the ONLY GEM example that will be available on the market for some time. If your area of interest is early half cents, this is a MUST have! LOT 29 1/2C 1800 C-1. PCGS MS64 RB CAC EX MISSOURI CABINET COLLECTION. Amazing quality and eye appeal for an 1800 half cent! The faded Mint red is still quite evident and both sides are even and attractive with their faded Mint color with bluish steel brown. Free of any troubling specks or spots, the color is a wholesome delight. Furthermore the surfaces show only a few tiny nicks and handling marks, far fewer than one would expect for a half cent from this early era. A thin strikethrough line above the bust tip serves to identify this amazing coin. Middle die state, Manley state 3.0. There was a small hoard of these that came out for the 1980 ANA Convention, but this coin was not from that group as it was in the Col. E. H. R. Green holdings in the 1930s. The quality of the planchets used to strike most 1800 half cents is high. The planchets were provided by Boulton & Watt, the famous English inventors and suppliers of planchets. Once struck most of the half cents were soon in circulation, so finding a Mint State coin, especially one with original Mint color is quite extraordinary. This particular one is pictured on the CoinFacts website with its extensive provenance noted as well. Notably from Howard Rounds Newcomb and soon B. Max Mehl in 1935; to Col. E. H. R. LOT 35 L1C 1793 WREATH VINE AND BARS. PCGS MS64+ BN CAC A GEM early Large Cent. A magnificent survivor from the earliest days of federal coinage boasting an exceptional look. For a coin that was struck so long ago in 100% copper, the most reactive of the metals used to strike coins, it amazes us that any can survive so fine! The brown coppery surfaces are generally smooth and free of serious porosity, and none that comes from improper storage after striking. The color is a perfect milk chocolate hue that is even across the entire coin. This nicely struck S-9. By the time this coin was struck the dies had clashed and the reverse broke at the right with a pair of serious die cracks that run in parallel, one from R to the wreath and the other through the CA to the wreath. Other die cracks start at the lower left ribbons that curve up to UN. Lightplanchet roughness can be seen in areas on the reverse is natural to the issue, as the planchet stock for 1793 cents was poorly prepared. A very pleasing, glossy mint luster is seen all over.We have plate matched this GEM to the Stack’s Bowers January 2013 Rarities Night Auction, lot 13109, where in an old green PCGS holder, graded MS64 BN, and sold for $152,750. This is the Sheldon Plate Coin and is ranked as tied for 8 or 9th finest on the EAC census and is earlier from a 1982 Quality Sales Corp auction, where it was sold to R. Tettenhorst.
