LOT 108 1C 1913-S PCGS MS66+ RD Legend Auctions is proud to offer the SINGLE FINEST 13-S cents graded by either PCGS or NGC. Boldly lustrous RED surfaces blaze with a stunning, fiery glow throughout the fields. The color of this SUPERB GEM is truly exceptional. The devices are sharply struck and offer a crisp definition on both sides. The surfaces are generally free of any distracting marks, there is just a minor trace of contact that we note on the reverse. Rose, gold, and salmon accents are lightly toned over the brilliant red color giving this beautiful early Lincoln Condition Rarity a great look. PCGS 1, NGC 0. This is the SINGLE FINEST graded, and Collectors Universe has yet to assign a value in this lofty state of preservation. The record price for the date is $63,250 over 13 years ago, and this should bring that or more today! LOT 109 1C 1914-D PCGS MS65+ RB CAC A very pleasing and original GEM 14-D. A KEY date issue, with a low mintage of 1,193,000. This sharply struck beauty has a very high end look. Brilliant, satiny luster glows on both sides, accenting the delicately toned coopery surfaces. The eye appeal is excellent and even with a strong glass, we are unable to find any serious contact, indeed, the only thing we see is s carbon fleck hidden on the right side of the reverse which does not detract from the great eye appeal. PCGS 73, NGC 38, CAC 34. PCGS has graded just three in MS65+ RB and there are 4 in MS66 RB finer. The last MS65+ RB to sell was CAC approved and sold for $10,800 and the current PCGS value is listed at $12,500. PCGS 9, NGC 1. The most recent example to sell in auction was CAC approved and sold for $20,400 in the 2019 FUN auction; prior to that, a non-CAC coin brought $22,325 in June 2014. LOT 117 1C 1955 DOUBLED DIE OBVERSE. PCGS MS64+ RD CAC This is one of the greatest TRUE GEM RED 55/55 this cataloger has ever seen! It looks like it just came from the bank. It is impossible to ever see a better MS64+ RD! Totally covered by GEM “original skin” with fiery red luster blazeing boldly on both sides. Soft rose, peach, and gold iridescent accents really pop when rotated in a light (This coin is stable do not worry about it changing color). We note a couple of minor toning flecks with the aid of strong glass, none of which detract from the outstanding eye appeal. Approximately 20,000 were produced when a working die and a working hub were struck together, slightly rotated, creating the dramatic doubling at LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and 1955. Many of the doubled dies were placed into the cellophane wrapping of cigarette packs in vending machines. At the time, a pack cost 23 cents, so vending machine operators would put the 2 cent change in the pack. Because of this, most survivors remain in Mint State grades, but ones with full, original RED coloration remain quite difficult to find! PCGS 175, NGC 42, CAC 34. There are just 10 graded MS64+ RD at PCGS. The most recent sold for $20,563 in our September 2019 Regency Auction. The current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $26,500. THE TRZASKA COLLECTION LOT 140 5C 1866 RAYS. PCGS PR67 CAM CAC This is a stunning SUPERB GEM, tied for FINEST GRADED at PCGS in the CAM designation. The mint began striking nickels in 1866, and the original James Longacre design shows the Union shield on the obverse and a large 5 in a ring of 13 stars, with rays between. The copper nickel alloy proved very difficult to strike, the dies broke quickly and in 1867 the reverse design was changed. The present example is very high end. Watery mirrored fields are smooth and icy. The lower obverse is crumbling, evidence of the difficulty the mint had producing this new denomination. All the devices are razor sharp in strike and stand out with a stunning contrast against the mirrored fields. A dusting of pastel iridescent gold really adds to the originality and high end visual allure of this Premium Quality beauty! Only 600 Proofs were struck. PCGS 4, NGC 11, CAC 2. No CAC approved example has ever sold in auction. A PCGS-graded example without CAC sold for $12,925 in the 2015 ANA auction. The current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $18,000. THE TRZASKA COLLECTION LOT 141 5C 1867 RAYS. PCGS PR64+ CAC This is the RAREST and most enigmatic issue in the Shield nickel series. Not only is this coin the highlight of the Trzaska Collection, but it is also a highlight of this entire Regency Auction. The mint changed the design of the Shield nickel reverse part way through 1867. Difficulties in striking caused the With Rays reverse die to break, leaving many small die cracks. The mint sought to fix this issue by removing the rays from the design. A small, but unknown mintage in Proof was produced. Some estimates are as low as 25; PCGS CoinFacts suggests 60; the current combined population of PCGS and NGC-graded coins comes to 88 examples (which likely includes duplication). Regardless of actual mintage, the number of known examples is very small. This gorgeously toned example sets itself apart from all the others. Often coming with dull mirrors, this one has a great flash and beaming reflectivity. Stunning rainbow iridescent toning can be seen framing both sides, attesting to its originality and very high end eye appeal. Shades of red, green, blue, and gold blend to create a vibrancy of color that is rarely seen on any 1867 Rays in Proof. A classic rarity that is always in demand from collectors, this coin is eagerly sought by advanced collectors. PCGS 16, NGC 4, CAC 8. This is the only PR64+ graded and it brought $31,200 in March 2018. The current Collectors Universe value is $36,000. A high end coin for any high end set.
