India has yet to come out fully from the recession it faced for the last couple of years. But now we seem to be on an ascending curve. The present environment provides challenging opportunities for management graduates. A lot will depend on their own efforts and capability but the contribution of the institutions imparting professional training will be very significant. The standing of an education institute, particularly of a Business School, is indicated by the behavior as much as the career growth of its students. A good institution aims for both. The Department of Management of Poornima University is striving to work as a Centre of Excellence in management education, laying stress on a culture of learning and enquiry. At the same time it is emphasizing ethical values and social commitment. With clearly defined objectives and rigorous academic and extra curricular activities, it is making a meaningful difference in the lives of the students. I am glad to note that the annual magazines would be in line with the objectives of the institution, contain meaningful and relevant information for the students and professional of the management sciences and, at the same time, provide space for creative expression for its young contributors. I congratulate the Editorial Board of the magazine for bringing out this quality publication. “Management is doing things right; leadership is doing the right things.” ― Peter Drucker, The Essential Drucker Poornima Spectrum 2021-22 104 Issue : X","Faculty of Management & Commerce MAJOR ACTIVITIES IN MBA DEPARTMENT MBA Placements (2020-22) MBA department completed Placement 2022 for its 2020-22 batch with highest annual package of 22 LPA which has gone up drastically from the last placement season. Spectrum- Our university magazine ignites the creativity of our learners. It is my sheer pleasure to share yet another episode of B.COM department with all the readers of POORNIMA SPECTRUM. The seeds of an idea sown in the year 2012, has quickly come to completion, and the department of Commerce is growing into strong sapling. Since then, department of B.COM is continuously nurturing the young minds from around the country with a belief that “Cultivation to the mind is as necessary as food to the body”. Value-based quality teaching is the key motto of the department and beyond satisfactory academic results and quality placements are the milestones that unfold the story. As you scan through the pages, it will enlighten you with the important milestones that department has achieved this year. This magazine should be a good source of guidance for faculty and coming batches of students in choosing activities of their choice in their future for building their carrier. Learning is not a process limited to the walls of classroom, nor does it concludes with one’s career, it is a lifelong process. The department is oriented towards building the holistic personality of the student. That being said it is also necessary to understand and evaluate skills, talent and abilities of every student and eventually to provide a platform to think, express, and exhibit their skills. We as facilitator understands the responsibility and work hard to build the platform through seminars, workshops, extracurricular activities and industrial visits. While academic excellence is the vision, department is also devoted to create a healthy learning environment for the students. Enthusiastic students are their strength. Various activities for the underprivileged population are undergoing from various schools under different projects. Projects like Poornima Pathshala (education initiative) and Poornima Pragati (skill development initiative) have shown a remarkable presence. These projects were planned and implemented in nearby slum area by the students of respective schools. Health was a missing component in these social initiatives. In 2019, we established a School of Public Health where Jodhpur School of Public Health (JSPH) is a knowledge partner. This partnership added another avenue in the cap of our corporate responsibility as far as health segment is concerned. Jodhpur School of Public Health (JSPH), since its inception in 2008, became a center of excellence in offering training and capacity development in rural and urban slum public health, drug policy and human rights, tobacco control, nutrition and mHealth along with academic arm. Recent times have shown to us that the field of Public Health has a very significant role to play in our daily lives. Its aim is to improve the quality of life through the prevention of diseases and promoting healthy practices among the people to help them achieve good health. Careers in public health go well beyond working in promoting healthy living initiatives. A degree in Public Health can lead to employment in the public health sector, education, policy-making, and in programs run by various Non-Profit Organizations and more. School of Public Health at Poornima University Jaipur in academic partnership with Jodhpur School of Public Health (JSPH) is making concerted efforts to ensure that the education and training imparted are at par with the global standards and local needs. Such training is necessary to address the unmet need of subject experts in Public Health as well as in the Healthcare sector. Our experienced and distinguished faculties expand the value, attitude, and ethical aspects of the field to enable the students in developing a sense of commitment to their service. The faculties include academic experts in Global Public Health as well as the healthcare industry from India and overseas. The programs are designed to bring Public Health knowledge and its cutting-edge application for Global Health needs. Emphasis is given to health informatics, health promotion, public health nutrition, global health, Industrial, and field visits. Practical Training and real-world experiences in our academic programs are a top priority. The programs offered are specially designed for mid-career professionals who are already working in the health sector and want to enhance their careers or wish to be a part of it in the future. TOBACCO CESSATION CAMP ON WORLD HEALTH DAY World Health Day is celebrated on April 7 every year to mark the commemoration of foundation of World Health organization. The theme of this year being ‘Our Planet, Our Health’. With the purpose of promoting health and creating awareness, a tobacco cessation camp was organised on April 7, 2022 in the tobacco cessation centre at Poornima University campus following the covid appropriate behaviour. This was headed by Dr. Ashish Manocha, Head of Department, Faculty of Public Health. Poornima Family enthusiastically attended the camp and availed the benefits. Health care workers in a number of settings play an important role in assisting people who want to quit smoking. Tobacco's dangers are well-known and undeniable. Unlike other dangerous habits, there is no such thing as a safe method to use tobacco. Nonetheless, we do. And solely for Nicotine's sake. The staff was made aware about the fact that tobacco products such as cigarettes, smokeless tobacco, and other tobacco products cause oral cancer, gum disease, and other oral health issues. Smokeless tobacco usage has been linked to an increased risk of oral cancer, as well as white or grey patches in the mouth. This camp was organised to create awareness among the staff employed in the campus about dental hygiene and the ill effects of tobacco usage. Persons who smoked or chewed tobacco were counselled on the harmful consequences of tobacco and taught on how to quit. Even those who were severely addicted were provided with aids to help them quit. Patients were given not just clinical but also mental support in order to help them quit tobacco. To promote oral health, all of the candidates were taught preventive practices and brushing techniques. Professor Lakhanpaul holds a vast experience in the core areas of Child Health and has a keen interest in working for the deprived and vulnerable sections of marginalized areas of India. She is a professor of Integrated Community Child Health and also a BSA Media Fellow and also co-director of the Childhood Infections and Pollution Consortium. Her visit to the University was of exploration for possibilities in partnering for Academic and Research activities. Dr. Dipanjan Roy, Advisor at JSPH, Poornima University was also a part of it and briefed the attendees on insightful opportunities that the two universities could work for. A few of the major discussions included planning a roadmap to initiate this partnership by indulging in small projects and activities such as the one going on right now with the Faculty of Public Health, where an early career researcher Dr. Komal Bhatia from UCL and Lalita Godara, Faculty, FPH are doing. They are working together on a project focussing on Infant and Young Child Feeding Practices in Rajasthan. The visit also threw light on the possibilities of exchanging students for Summer Internships and semester exchanges. The UCL students lack grassroots level experiences and hold a strong back in theoretical knowledge and students from PU the vice versa. Discussions on ways to merge these two strengths and pave the path for future excellence. The two universities could also write research grants and proposals together using mixed funding ventures. Further brainstorming on online lectures, webinars, hands-on training, faculty development programs, and publications was done during the visit. Poornima University and University College of London through this small initiative have tried exploring ways to join hands for blending the two cultures by bringing two countries with varied heterogeneity on one platform and bringing wonders to the field of education.
