Faculty of Planning & Architecture Saurabh Sharma Dean (In-charge) Faculty of Planning & Architecture MESSAGE Greetings to One and All, It is indeed a wonderful moment to invite you all to the new academic session of 2022-23. I would first of all congratulate and pass on my greeting to all students and faculties on concluding the previous session successfully. After a lot of ups & downs and online - offline switching we were able to close it with good memories. Now we look forward to the new session which brings a lot of opportunities & excitement to learn & unlearned things. But at the same time challenges are to be tackled and won over to achieve what we wish for in this session. Keeping these points in mind, I would like to share a few mantras learnt from different people who went through different phases of life. ● You are never too old to learn or start new ● Respect your parents and teachers. They do what they do only for you ● Learn to manage time and money because both go hand in hand ● Never stop learning. The day it stops, you stop growing ● Your character is defined by how you treat people who are less fortunate than you ● You do not treat people the way you don't want to be treated I am sure these mantras will help you float through smoothly in your life and career and be the guiding light that will always be with you. To conclude with, I wish you all the very best for the upcoming semester and great success in all that you do. “Architecture should speak of its time and place, but yearn for timelessness.” – Frank Gehry Poornima Spectrum 2021-22 161 Issue : X

With an attitude of being ever ready to help, and not only delivering classroom teachings, but they are also the pillars of the learning gained from this esteemed university and this is a treasure for life. Sai Jayanth, B.Arch 1st year 2020-2025 My 1st year experience at Poornima University was more like a roller coaster ride. A major part of this experience was studying online because of the widespread pandemic that has affected all our lives. Studying online was quite difficult but our faculty gave their best to provide us with quality education, architecture at SPA. PU has brought out the dichotomy of my personality, allowing me to engage both creatively and scientifically with the aesthetic and functional aspects of design. Reading books, journals, articles and blogs has provoked me to question how architects can rise to meet the demands of an ever developing planet. Where human population is increasing more than ever it will be quite a challenge to design and create spaces that can fulfill all our needs along with this I think we should talk more about sustainability in architecture and in the process of becoming an architect I feel that architects should take full advantage of the latest that science can offer, whilst advocating their own advances , also Art classes and extracurricular activities have helped me grow as an artist and designer, encouraging me to explore and develop ideas through experimentation. Waiting to learn and grow more through the course of 4 years that are remaining and hopefully create an impact in the world of architecture. Lavanya Saxena, B.Arch 1st year 2020-2025 I choose to learn from the best when it comes to learning You will cry, you will eat, you will cry your heart out (and tear Your hair out), I come here from my comfort zone \"The school\" and in whole one year I felt that it is the place where I have to leave the comfort which I get from my school. The teachers here are so much co operative like they are power booster. They not only teach the subject but lifestyle also. I found the most valuable and professional institute, and also that we have already had everything we need to succeed and that all it takes is willingness to work hard and make consistent daily efforts. Faculty of Planning and Architecture I feel immense pleasure to be a part of, School of Planning and Architecture, Poornima University. All the facilities here are so supportive and encouraging, the department tries their best to facilitate us with the best facilities and well-equipped studio. Further talking about my first year journey, it has been a roller coaster ride with the creativity and flexibility which we needed to adopt and adapt due to the whole pandemic situation. In this covid situation it was really difficult for us even our faculties to adjust with the new online system of education, as in Architecture it's all about practicals. However, due to facultie's constant support we were somehow able to complete our 1st semester. Honestly, I was still facing difficulties in some of the basics like in the online system. We were not able to learn proper drafting or to use those tools but seeing the scenario of education at that time it was still better than sitting idle and learning nothing, all thanks to the university and our faculties. Harshita Trivedi, 1st Year Architecture Student ALUMNI TESTIMONIALS After graduating from an esteemed university with first class division, to gain practical exposure. I was able to get a chance to work under Ar Mubashir Jabir a senior associate at renowned Hafeez Contractor Architects. Then to gain furthermore hands-on experience of how to run a studio in whole, I came a little closer to home and got the opportunity to work at Studio AVT in New Delhi. S M Architects was finally set up in Shahjahanpur in the year 2019 and after that I haven't looked back! My projects range from renovating a bedroom to a 150 home township; from a high-end grocery store to a full fledged Pharma College. With over 50+ such projects anywhere from still in conceptual stage to completed. Ar. Faculty of Design & Arts MESSAGE Dr. Jitendra Sharma HoD Faculty of Design & Arts \"Design is intelligence made visible.\" - Alina Wheeler, author Design education is the need of the hour in today’s academic scenario. Even the government of India has realized the importance of Design education in its new education policy. Poornima University realized this long before the surge of design education institutes in India and started Faculty of Design & Arts to fill the gap. The design school at Poornima University has come a long way since its inception and now has become a well-known name in design education that is known for its commitment to bring best practices in design industry and art education. Don Norman once stated “We must design for the way people behave, not for how we would wish them to behave.” We at Faculty of Design and Arts believed in these words and set the school's aim to inculcate the culture of design thinking in young minds that should reflect in school’s all four streams- Fashion design, Interior Design, Animation Design and Visual Arts. The University has provided best in class infrastructure and facilities required for design education. The USP of the school is the faculty team that is well trained at best design schools in India and abroad. The expert team at school, brings invaluable industry experience of most sought after design studios, animation, and advertising companies. With these words, I welcome our students who want to explore the unseen dimensions of design, to be a part of our journey towards being a world class center of excellence in education, training, and research. \"Designers are meant to be loved, not to be understood.\" - Margaret Oscar, designer Poornima Spectrum 2021-22 174 Issue : X

Our Voice : Faculty Corner A Technology Calls “GREEN AI” Effort that Focuses on The Energy Efficient System of Decoupling Carbon Foot Print in Environment Green AI is a part of artificial intelligence in broader way of environment friendly sustainable energy efficiency system and scientific research area. The main vision of green AI is reducing the computational expense and improving performance in resource management with advanced renewable concept. Green artificial intelligence provides environmental potential characteristics which reduce environmental risk and result best practices for growth of society. It asserts that the facts of large energy generation and consumption have increased emission of greenhouse gas into the atmosphere, the need of global growth and material development energy is prerequisite for sustainable development. Red AI has been remarkable scientific contribution to the field but it is dominant. Red AI refers to research is seeking to improvement accuracy throughout the use massive computational cost parameter cost and complexity. Green AI is changing fundamental wheel to make an eco-friendly product sustainable development with energy efficient system. Present global and social material development requires the pre-requisite of sustainable energy. Because it is a requirement of meeting basic human needs heats, moving, power, water, transport, light and all application in business industry and commerce and public services like healthcare, education, communication are highly depended on access to energy related services. A nation’s growth and development can be judged by the level of its energy consumption. These are several activities that contribute to global atmospheric emission like: - A. HEATING AND COOLING EMISSION B. AUTOMOBILES SYSTEM EMISSION C. POWER SYSTEM EMISSION A carbon footprint is a total greenhouse gas emission by each and every individual, events and organization. These carbon footprints are harmful for us. The global average annual carbon footprint per person was about 5-ton CO2e in calculate year 2014.An organization makes a sustainable strategy for less emission of GHG gas like electric vehicle etc. Example of carbon offsetting are: - Global greenhouse gas emissions by sector A. Forestry B. Agriculture C. Renewable Energy D. Waste management E. Water Management F. Energy efficient system All such kind of methods can help to reduce GHG admission in our environment. Green software aims to reduce the CO2 emission in an environment as an impact caused by the software. Green and sustainable strategy to reduce energy cost deal with infrastructure, workload distribution, habit of individuals will design database will decrease waiting time of queries and tire architecture of application and cloud base data center these all way we could design develop and deploy green software. Green AI aims to encourage reduction in the force computational cost important evaluation. Matrix research along with accuracy green AI promotes approach that has favorable performance and efficient trade off. Our Voice : Faculty Corner Industry 5.0 for Digital Manufacturing Considering the current market scenario of the manufacturing industry, there is a wide change in the manufacturing process by creating smart and automated production flows with emphasizing digital communication to continuously optimize production. This production model is known as Industry 4.0, which also brings a variety of things on a single platform such as the internet of things (IoT), cloud computing, cognitive computing, cyber-physical systems, artificial intelligence, and machine learning. Growing in research and development there are other optimized systems – one that emphasizes collaborative robotics and values human input, namely, industry 5.0. Industry 5.0 involves leveraging the collaboration between increasingly powerful and accurate machinery and the unique creative potential of the human being. In simple term, the Fifth Industrial Revolution — means greater collaboration between advanced technologies and humans. This will be achieved with keeping a major factor which was not in the industry 4.0 - Sustainability - that is Industry 5.0 will aim to move towards more sustainable, resilient and human-centric industry. This stage plan to achieve societal goals beyond jobs and growth to become a resilient provider of prosperity, by making production respect the boundaries of our planet and placing the wellbeing of the industrial worker at the centre of the production process. This will be a game changer for many industries and will see the sun rise of many sectors and sub sectors. In pharma, specialty chemicals, robotic, industrial automation, utilities, engineering the arrival of Industry 5.0 will make huge impact. Industry 5.0 model creates greater potential for customization to meet the need for complex designed products and expected to create wider scope compared to automated industry 4.0 systems. It may benefit job creation and creates scope high-value careers. The focus of the industry 5.0 to enable robots to do the repetitive, dangerous, and risky task and let humans do the creative, and importing tasks to influence the production efficiency. Collaborative Robots (cobots) in Industry 5.0: Where Industry 4.0 was focused mainly on ensuring consistency of quality, flow, and data collection, Industry 5.0, while still focused on these goals, puts more attention on highly-skilled people and robots working side-by-side to create individualized products, from smartphones to cars, for the customer. In Industry 4.0, humans and robots worked independently. They may have worked on the same production line but there were clear delineations between where the robot worked and where the human worked. With Industry 5.0, that delineation gets hazier as humans and robots start to work side-by-side and even together. These types of robots are known as collaborative robots and will accomplish the required tasks of heavy lifting and ensuring consistency while the skilled human provides the cognitive skills of a craftsperson. It is expected that the cobots can change the relationship between man and machine in the context of production. Human Involvement: One of the most important implications of collaborative robotics and industry 5.0 is the need for human input that extends beyond current iterations. Cobots allow humans and robots to work together on the same task. For example, a robot can do the rough polishing of speaker cabs, while a human refines the work and does on-the-spot quality control. The integration of collaborative robots and industry 5.0 will create opportunities in the production processes and develop new capabilities for robotics in the global market. Industry 5.0 is all about connecting the human to machine and working together to create the best products. The informal sector is completely unaware of the technological shift to make things better. By introducing small machines and robots with IIOT, small scale business will be reverting to creative, handmade work paired with ultimate precision and productivity. By implementing machine to machine micro transaction for complete transparency of the value creation chain and for human and nonhuman contributors. Also, using Blockchain technology to fulfill incremental payment for the created value or smart contracts, securing the production quality fulfillment. The more India will produce quality products in a precise and efficient way from the formal and informal sector, Economy will boost automatically. Now its high time to use our youth and technology to boost our economy. Pratish Rawat Head of the Department - First Year FET & FCE Poornima Spectrum 2021-22 196 Issue : X

Our Voice : Faculty Corner Reconstructing the idea of Self Within the periphery of English Language Who one is, what constitutes self, how it is transformed into subject and how self gains importance in the sight of the critical domain in various studies and theories like structuralism, post Structuralism, psychoanalysis, modernism, Post modernism, feminism, Existentialism etcetera have been an indispensible and inescapable quest. The oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary lists one hundred and six words combining or hyphenated with the word self. The Oxford Dictionary of Philosophy (2006) defines self as \"the elusive 'I' that shows the alarming tendency to disappear when we try to introspect t.\" The self goes through a lot of phases when it becomes the subject. When The shaping of the Self within the structure of it comes to language, one of the first words English language that comes to mind is communication. However, language is an important part of one's identity and is required for all the aspects of interacting with the surrounding world. Self is what one projects into the world and how one wants to be perceived by others. When self comes in contact of Language, it becomes a new phenomenon altogether. Since time immemorial language has been a very important tool for the construction of identity. With the increasing popularity of English language as the second language makes it a global language rather than a regional or a national language. The learning and the use of English language also brings new identities along with it. It can be more comprehensively seen since the past two decades after it becoming the global language. These days everyone can be seen learning English language on priority basis. English is shaping one's self and attaching it with the idea of societal standards. English language is playing a very vital role in connecting two cultures, nationalities and ideological processes. English has been with India since the early 1600's, when the East India Company started trading and English missionaries first began their efforts. English language is very extensively used in Education sector. The accumulated version of English language and Education sector together is shaping the idea of self and identity. Family, social interactions with peers, and geographic location are the three major aspects that show a correalation between language and idenity throught one's life. To conclude, When it comes to language, one of the first words that comes to mind is communication. However, language is also an important part of one's identity and is required for all aspects of interacting with the surrounding world. Identity is what one projects into the world and how one wants to be perceived by others. Moreover, identity formation requires a certain level of awareness as it involves individuals to make a conscious decision that impacts a change in their identity. Family, social interactions with peers, and geographic location are three aspects that show a correlation between language and identity throughout one's life. English as a global Language is becoming more powerful with the passing span of time and its impact is visible in every sphere, especially when it comes to shape one's Self. Our Voice : Faculty Corner Work Life Balance: A Moment of Introspection I was sitting in a luncheon meeting few days back and the topic was around – “Vacations”. I was surprised to hear people on how they struggle to plan a vacation, for some it was a duty to go on a vacation once a year and for some it was a headache planning a vacation. The topic drifted towards Indian belief, values, cultures and how we are still trying to adapt the West and ended up with “work-life balance”. I am a strong believer of – “work while you work, play while you play” …which means leaving “work” in office and planning your day/ week beyond work. To effectively manage these two, you should consider some of the other aspects…it is partly personality driven. Many work long hard hours for the jobs they hate, not able to buy things they need and to impress people they don’t like. No one is going to solve this problem for us, it is up to us as individuals to take control and responsibility for the type of life’s we want to lead and the work which will enable the same. What worked for me... Be a good Planner: - If spending time with your friends, dogs, partner, parents, siblings is on your calendar, then there is an incentive to complete your work task and gun for the weekend program. This motivates you to plan your work within the office hours and you become more productive because there is an incentive tied to it. I always try and finish work early so that I can reach home and spend some quality time with my family and especially have a cup of tea with my mom. \"A lot of my friends end to wake up late, shower, and go straight to work. And they often complain about having no time to do anything,\" For me waking up at 6 am means, 1 hour of meditation, early morning tea, a 30-minute yoga, watching the sunrise and many more. This start motivates me to be more productive at work and look forward to a beautiful evening. If this routine breaks, I can sure tell the difference! Try and plan your day, there is nothing wrong in writing it down and tracking it to start with. Think Positive: - And think positive, the time you spend at work. Many of us worry, gossip and listen to the office politics, discus traffic, economy and waste our energy at work hours. Translate the energy you bring to work – “positive” and you will see the difference and this in-turn results in more “value-add” at work. When you start thinking negative and be with the bad company, you drain your energy and end up not completing the task and the resultant of which is ending up late in office and working long hours and the crib of work pressure starts. Remember, you control everything! Take care of your Health:- A healthy lifestyle can do wonders…how many of you who say – I don’t have a “work life balance” exercise regularly? I want to hear from them. It's hard to make time for exercise when you have a jam-packed schedule, but it may ultimately help you get more work done in less time by boosting your energy level and ability to concentrate. This means, more productive time at work again. When I don’t exercise, I feel something is missing and have resulted in a bad day at work. Exercise is not about going to the gym, it is about keeping yourself mentally and physically fit, it could be a brisk walk, going outdoors, a weekend trek, walking to the grocery store and playing any form of sports. Live your Dreams: - All of us have dreams and somewhere at some point we drop them and it remains as a dream. Break those barriers, set personal goals, dream big, and work towards it. The urge to achieve more starts right here and this results in a great productivity at work. Dream about fancy cars, exotic vacations, early retirement and what not…this motivates you to be more productive at work - where there is a reward there is a way! Small things Matter: - The smallest things matter, it could be reading a book for your kids, belly rub for your dogs, joining a kick boxing class etc... There are times when you should shut your phones and enjoy the moment – a perfect sunset on your way back home, stopping by for some hot Tea, unplanned drive, getting wet in the rains and as you wish. Robert Brook says that phone notifications interrupt your off time and inject an undercurrent of stress in your system. So don’t text at your kid’s game and don’t send work emails while you’re hanging out with family or meeting your friends over a drink. Nothing stops when you don’t answer that email the very next minute, most of the times your response is much better with those few minutes/ hours of break. It worked for me! Don't assume that you need to make big changes to bring more balance to your life. Start simple, pick those hobbies of yours and start spending 2 hours on them in a week, join the dance class you dreamt, run a Marathon, become a shutter-bug, cycle to work, plan your next vacation. See the change and be the change! Namita Solanki Assistant Professor Department of BBA Faculty of Management & Commerce Poornima Spectrum 2021-22 198 Issue : X
