{ P R E M I E R I S S U E 2 0 1 8 } KHARISMA MAGAZINE 119 and having these thoughts of, “Everything is miserable. I live a miserable life. Why me? Why me?” And today I go in with a different view. For some people, that’s why my book is, I think, very important, for myself. It’s therapeutic for myself, as I hope it is for others. I look in the mirror. I affirm to myself, “I can do it. It’s going to be a good day.” It’s the power within myself that makes me have a good day versus a bad day, and the positive attitude is very important. The ‘I’ in Self-Aid stands for what I believe is the most attractive characteristic in a human being, including myself: it’s Integrity. I take my integrity everywhere I go, whether I was, you know, when I was rich, and when I was down, very, very, very poor financially and emotionally, spiritually, all of the other ways. When you’re up, or down. I take my integrity everywhere I go. I don’t stray. I say what I say. I do what I say. My actions always follow my words, and that’s extremely important to me. I look for integrity in myself, my child, my best friends, my business associates. I look for it with everyone that I associate myself with today, because I want to be a person of integrity. So ‘D’ in Self-Aid stands for Dream. And it’s not just, “I have a dream. I have a dream.” It is me telling the world that you can find your life purpose too. Because when you do find your message for this world; the reason why you were put here on this world, you will love every moment of it. And instead of saying, “I have a dream.” You will say, “I’m living my dream.” And that’s where I am today. And that’s Self-Aid, my book as well. Kharisma: Awesome!everybody goes through this. BE ICONIC { { PPRREEMMI IEERR I ISSSSUUEE 2 2001 188 } } KKHHA AR RI IS SMMA A MMA AGGA AZ ZI INNE E M 11355 eet Karina Stephens, author of The Stressless Revolution, creator of the Enrich Virtual Retreat, and a modern-day alchemist. Kharisma: I’m so excited to learn all about how you leveraged your years of experience in the health wellness industry, to launching such a powerful, enriched Retreat and Spa. Karina: When I think back to when I first became an entrepreneur, it was probably a year before I had just ended a five-year emotionally abusive relationship, and I did two things differently this time: I stopped blaming him and took responsibility back to me, so I gave power back to myself; and the second thing was, I asked, Is this all there is to life?, as I was at my darkest at this time, and a resounding No came back, Stop looking outside of yourself. So, I went in search of answers internally, rather than trying to find the answers outside of me. It took me on a personal development and spiritual journey. A year later, I started my business and realized I was born to be an entrepreneur. This was my thing, this was my groove. I remember my grade 6 teacher telling my mom at report time, that I was boy-crazy and worked spasmodically. And I said, “Mom, the boys chase me.” And we went and looked up the word spasmodic, and nothing’s changed except, there’s only one guy chasing me now. I still work spasmodically, I still love to do something here, and then I’ll go over here. I might find that’s perfect for an entrepreneur because it gives me diversity and it gives me a great range of interests - and you need to do everything when you’re an entrepreneur. I started a massage and holistic business, and then developed the personal training on top of that, because I had the nursing background, and followed that through the years. Then, 10 years ago or 11 years ago now, I joined forces with my husband. I got married and moved to Sydney, Australia. He was already in a speaking and training business, so I joined forces with him, and I learnt all the backend and the online component of the business. I get to do everything that I love, and to give back to so many people, as well. So, that’s been my journey so far.
KHARISMA MAGAZINE { P R E M I E R I S S U E 2 0 1 8 } 136 WE Kharisma: Awesome! I love the journey and how that you recognized that you were born to be an entrepreneur. How did you start the ‘stressless revolution’ movement? STEP Karina: My husband and I were looking for a property that we could run some personal development programs from. We were looking all over Australia and found a perfect one. It INTO was on the Gold Coast in Queensland. It was sort of on the border and we moved in, and I guess it was the perfect property to have a day spa as well. Being the entrepreneur, I said, let’s buy the day spa as well, and that sort of took over our OUR lives. I knew that when I was designing it, I didn’t want it to be just another run-of-the-mill day spa. We had been in the corporate world where we were dealing with a lot of people that had high levels of stress, and I POWER, wanted it to really make a significant impact on other people’s lives in reducing their stress. AND I wanted it to be something really cool. So, I modeled the business plan on three women that I looked up to in the industry, and I looked at how they ran their business and their work ethic. I looked at what they implemented in their business to make IF IT’S them industry leaders. I incorporated some of their characteristics into my business plan and that’s how we set out. We opened the doors in January 2012 and in FEMININE, September, we won the industry award for Best Esquire in Australasia. So that’s all of Asia and Australia. It was really significant for me because that meant that we were among the best in the world THEN and, more importantly, we were making a difference in people’s lives. and that was the thing that I took from that. Now that we were winning awards and all that, what happened was in THAT’S February 2013, I ended up burnt out, stressed out, and maxed out. I had created this beautiful sanctuary for everyone to come and de-stress but, POWER. I needed itmost. It was like life was saying, you know what, if you want to help people really de-stress and live a stressless life, then you need to ‘go deep’. And you need to really do some soul-searching and experience what this feels like, so that you can really help them from a deeper level. So, I stepped down as managing director of my spa and stepped up as managing director of my wellness. That took me on a journey of healing, but it was more of a revealing. I learned so much about how I did business, and how I did life. When I grew up I had this “screw you” attitude. “I’m going to make it happen”. I was never given anything in life. I always had to fight for what I wanted, and I prided myself on that. I wasn’t ever given a free ride and whatever I got, I worked my butt off for. That was something that I was proud of, because it gave me that sense of independence; but living that way 24/7, just burns you out. It’s great when you need it, but, you can’t live that way forever. There was a lot of belief in me and a push - push attitude - where if I wanted something, I was just going to push through no matter what. That gets your adrenals and puts them on higher alert and they get stuck. Eventually, they get to run out of adrenaline and you’ve got cortisol coursing through your body the whole time which makes you sick and all your hormones go out of balance. That’s what happened to me. What I learned was there’s a different way that you can be an entrepreneur. Life works for you, where it’s effortless and there’s ease and joy. We have so many gifts that life is waiting to present to us, but we blocked them because we’re trying to control everything and we’re trying to make things happen anyway. I believe now, that we can’t see the big picture, because life has a even bigger picture for us. If we just trust and let go and believe in that and be led, rather than lead, then there are so many gifts that that will come into our lives. People come into our life that we

KHARISMA MAGAZINE { P R E M I E R I S S U E 2 0 1 8 } 138 It was like my soul was opening up, and it was just showing me the beauty in life and in everything. I was becoming more connected with the land and more connected with all the animals. It was such a beautiful time. I really stepped up to causes that supported animals and abuse against animals. My diet changed. I’m now vegetarian. So, I feel that we have to give and serve, but we can’t do it from a place where we’re not well, fatigued, and tired. By building myself up, I’m now able to start going out and supporting things like your magazine, so I’m excited to see where this leads me, because life’s a journey - you never know what’s around the corner. But, as I focus on me and my wellness, I know that I’m attracting the people that I can now go on and serve to have a greater difference. Kharisma: Share a little bit about your virtual retreat. Karina: It’s like a membership. I took the concept of the retreat - the physical retreat - when we were running retreats for people regarding personal development and spirituality. Now, it’s just an online portal, so it’s available 24/7 and each room is a different room. We have a meditation and guided visualization room; we have a room where you can go and get educational videos, seminars, webinars, and interviews with other guest experts. I’ve found out that when I was dealing with adrenal fatigue, I couldn’t exercise, and being a personal trainer, that was really hard for me. We also have a lot of yoga in there as well, that you can do with the yoga videos. There are also signature retreats which are based solely on transformation. There are beautiful herbs and wonderful foods that replenish our energy so that we can live ‘full-on’ and reach our potential by the foods that we eat. That’s all in the Alchemist Kitchen. And that’s something, I’m really passionate about as well. I would encourage your audience to go on over to Karinastephens.com. This is where they can find out more about the retreat and also join the retreat, if they know they feel led to and resonate with them. Kharisma: Thank you again for being with us today, Karina. The awareness is supported with a daily action plan based on the Law of Attraction. Amanda: Yes, thank you for having me. It's a plea- sure to be here. Yes, the Law of Attraction came into my life about seven years ago. I was going through a tough time when I was pregnant, and I had just split up with my boyfriend at the time. It was a very tough time for me, because it was scary. I didn't want to be a single mom. I didn't want to get rid of the baby. It was a time where I needed to find new answers. The universe led me to the DVD, The Secret. When I watched it, it was like the biggest “ah-ha” moment of my life. This documentary flashed back at me, and everything I ever believed and sort of knew in my heart suddenly took a front row seat in my life. I was like, \"Oh wow, so this is actually a fact. This is a universal law, and this is how I can learn to cope with things in my life.\"

Kharisma: Awesome. Any last words that you want to share, or a tip with our audience, before we wrap up? Amanda: Yes. I’d definitely like to say that anything’s possible. Don’t let anyone limit you in any way, because the only time there are limitations is when we say, “I’m giving up, I’ve had enough, I can’t do this.” That’s the only time we’re limited. Otherwise, there is really this endless flow of abundance that’s available to all of us once we learn how the universe works and really start to face up to our truths, whether our truth is that we need to be angry or sad or joyful or whatever it may be. To learn to deal with the emotions that are coming up and to really acknowledge and honour what you’re feeling and learn to work with those emotions; once we deal with all that, then there’s less self-doubt, and we’re more likely to believe that... have that inner strength to move forward and to really go for what we want in our life. We do live in an abundant universe. I’ve changed so many things in my life, my relationship, my job. I’m now doing this full time, and I love what I do, how much money I make, where I live. I have a house in nature. My relationship is so much more harmonious. These things have all been possible through really taking the Law of Attraction and doing all I can to work on myself, clear my energy, and master through my day to day life. It just brings endless possibilities. Kharisma: Beautiful. Thank you so much Amanda for being with us today. I know that our audience is really going to glean from this interview. So, whether it was television, branding, advertising those kinds of roles, I was always working with entrepreneurs, freelancers and creatives and really helping them step into their essence; position themselves as artists, bands and dealing with various issues that could come up. And I

Town, South Africa, but I’ve never really looked at those But, at some point I got drawn into their story and I realized borders of just being like a brick and mortar kind of space. And in This is hard, and I’m, like, hold on right? Let me shake this fact, I found it easier to attract overseas and to see it here in off. I need to get outside this box again. And that kind of my own backyard. sparked into that whole coaching process. And in that, I discovered that you’ve got these two kinds of entrepreneurs. And just having those kinds of conversations - getting into Traditionally, you’ve got your normal entrepreneur who is joint venture partners, getting into promotional spaces very much about making money. This bit of fame that they where everybody’s looking to either grow their mailing list want; to be the masters of their own game - they’re looking or those kinds of platforms. to be experts. And that’s great. You know, kudos to them for being the kind of powerhouses that they are. But, not I just started reaching out and connecting and just sharing everyone wants that energy, not everyone wants to mansion my experience with people. And there were people by the sea or the private jet. You know, it’s a very kind of who resonated with that and wanted to have deeper “lifestyle orientated” space on the air. As I said, most people conversations. And from there it just became word of go, Well I’m just going to rebel and become a heart-centred mouth, which is always the most beautiful way to see it, and it’s grown exponentially from there. entrepreneur or a conscious entrepreneur. And, that’s also beautiful. There is so much value and so Kharisma: I love that, and as you know, any business, whether much purpose and so much passion in there. But they forget brick and mortar or an online business, experiences about themselves. So, I started looking at how to bridge those challenges along the way. two worlds. Because we want to get value, we want to have clients and movements and tribes that means something. Entrepreneurship is not an easy road to travel. Describe for But, we also must be able to give back to ourselves, so that we us a business or project failure you’ve experienced and what can propel our story onwards. So, bringing that hodgepodge you’ve learned from that experience. together and just allowing that space to be is what, really, I focus on when I work with clients. Lena: Well, I think one of the biggest things that was my failure is technically, I’ve been in the business of being an How do you step into your authentic self? What is it that you entrepreneur for so much longer than I’ve realised. But my want to be representing? What is the story that you want to mindset wasn’t on the right way and mindset is such a big, have? What is that experience that you want to share with big thing. the world? And then, how do you take that to an exponential level and just be in that space and knowing, you know, what I was working with a company, a coach training company your brand is and then how your business supports that and in terms of the modality that they do. But I kept thinking of how your marketing supports that and how everything then myself as the apprentice in that. ripples out and it becomes natural and authentic you. And when the media came in saying, let’s do an interview Kharisma: Awesome! But I cried, “You need to speak to this other guy”. And I was coaching clients, but I realised Lena: LinkedIn and Facebook have been amazing tools for I was doing the same thing again. When it got to a point kind of connecting. I’ve been really lucky. I’m based in Cape where I was asked to by an outside person to play that role

You’re not ready to beon your own two feet, and for me to hear those words, I waslike, oh no, you don’t like me.Throughout 2014, I was really holding my own groundand not putting those things off. And it’s amazing to seethe energy of the projects that came out of 2014 and theenergy of the projects that came out previously were so verydifferent and so authentic.\"Kharisma: What are three ways an entrepreneur can step..findinto his or her greatness?Lena: Great, great question! Well, one of the things that Iaalways say, is it starts with the “bang” hence, the bookStart With a Bang. And to a lot of entrepreneurs, a bang isa very, very, very big thing. It feels like you’ve got to haveall your ducks in a row and you’ve got to have a big budget, production; millennial kind of show to go out with a bang. \"BANG\"And it really doesn’t need to be that. Your bang can be anykind of experience that puts you out of your comfort zoneand puts you out of the shadow of your own greatness andininto the light. It could just be bursting out of the comfortzone. So, do one thing every day that scares you, or have aconversation that scares you or, if you need to be practicingsales more, have those conversations, but you should findyourways to be creative about it, and really just put yourself outthere and don’t put pressure on yourself thinking this is asales conversation. Just have a conversation, for the sake ofwor ld.\".havingtheconversation.So, find a “bang” in your world - right now, in this second -that’s going to make that ripple effect, that’s going to get youto the place that you want to be tomorrow. That’s the most powerful thing. The second thing I thinkthat you could be doing is leverage, and as entrepreneurs Isee this happen so much, especially the solo-preneur thingwhich happens with a lot of us, because a lot of us start;will have budgets to hire which team will grow by impact. But if you’re not leveraging what it is that you’re puttingout there, you’re going to be outside of the “zone genius”,which means you’re going to be putting up stuff that isn’t
KHARISMA MAGAZINE { P R E M I E R I S S U E 2 0 1 8 } 150 great stuff and that’s hurting your brand, and it’s hurting your business and it’s hurting you because you’re going to be sweating over yourself and you’re going to be crying and you’re going to sleep the last night and think, “amazing” is going to happen that way. It’s like, what are the things that people are waiting for from me? What are the things that I’m waiting on for other people? And given all the tasks that I do - that I need to have done that week - what is the biggest thing I can leverage or the top three things? No more than three. If I just focus on those three things, that would speed track my day, my week. What are those going to be? So, it’s still very exponential, it’s still very big, but it is the little things that makes those big differences. And number three is to find yourself. Find moments to find - just all throughout the day - and connect with you in honour of your Supernova, your highest self, your soul, your passion, your purpose. Just tune into the bigger question of why. Why are you doing this and why this is so important for you, because energetically, it’s so easy to get lost in the doing and the task list. When I’m grounded, and I find that space and I find those rituals that support that, whether it’s meditation or just going outside and finding a patch of grass and just being in nature or yoga - whatever it is for you. Finding those kinds of practices that allow you to ground yourself and ask, who am I in all of this? Because if you can’t find yourself in all of this, your business will go out the door. Kharisma: Yes that’s true. There is no separation. You are an extension of your business. Lena: If we don’t do those kinds of things, then we’re just a slave to our own selves. We’re just exactly where we’re working for ourselves, rather than working for a business or having a business that works for us. Kharisma: Awesome! Well, it was great chatting with you today! Lena: Thank you so much for having me!
