UNIT 8 INTERESTING SOUVENIRS There is a variety of souvenirs to seek out for beloved family and friends, ranging from very low-priced trinkets to extremely gorgeous and expensive gifts. Tourists can make a choice of types, colors, sizes, material or even prices of souvenirs from any souvenir shop throughout the country. Those shops have clothes, basketry, silverware, silver jewelry, miniature dolls, and other handicrafts on offer. Tourists can easily find something as a souvenir typical of Thailand and worth buying from all parts of the country. Therefore, providing information about typical souvenirs is important for Thai people so that we can help our guests when they need it. However, all sorts of exotic and traditional handicrafts, including small and inexpensive items for gifts, are also worth buying. In this unit, students have opportunities to practice listening, speaking, reading, and writing about words and expressions essential for communication with people associated with the tourism industry and in everyday language. Students are supposed to get an idea of how to give information to tourists and other people using appropriate grammar form along with the vocabulary needed in the context. Consequently, they are supposed to be able to communicate well with foreign tourists or guests when talking about souvenirs typical of Thailand.
