English Version We conducted during this period, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, at the invitation of Sipatesp, the first joint meeting between employers from the proven sector of Brazil and Argentina, followed by its reciprocal in São Paulo, whose goal was to establish the strategy to be adopted for the moderniza- tion of regulations, aiming at the future Mercosur common market, based on the international market, with reference to Europe and the United States. We ended our management with the participation in the Cosmética 91 held at Shopping Morumbi, where the National Symposium on Aes- thetic Beauty was held, organized by physiotherapist Maria Rita Pereira L. In a few years, the discipline of cosmetology was being taught through courses in Pharmacy, in a very empirical way. Then, a group of professionals (chemists, pharma- cists) had the idea of gathering together and creating ABC, always with an eminently technical target. I believe that the creation of ABC was one of the most important things that happened in Brazil, to strengthen knowledge and studies in favor of cosmetology, as a science. In 1975, I worked in the Chemical Industries Lessin, who had a phar- maceutical division, a cosmetic onde and another one, which was quite important, special sweeteners and sweeteners. Among the actions taken together, the one that highlights is the advanced training course in Cosme- tology, with two previous editions held in São Paulo, and I Hair Health Con- gress in Lisbon. Furthermore, we established an exchange of research and development involving several Brazilian and Portuguese universities, under the sponsorship of ABC and SPCC. These objectives, which are at the root of the creation of ABC, also guided the founding of the Argentine Association of Cosmetic Chemists (AAQC), born in March 1971. The affinity between the two entities has grown and strengthened over the years, through the exchange of experiences, par- ticipation in courses and exchange of information. As recalled by former President Cesar Tudela, the contacts between the two associations, which have intensified since 1994, have always brought great benefits to the sector in Latin America. Moba Beau products will be sold for prices lower than today. And, for sure, at least one large beauty company will be bought by a Chinese and/or Indian company. China shows quick growth and India shows high levels of education and middle class growth. Until some years ago, China was seen as the right market for western products. This scenario is changing as a result of the government policy of making it a self-sufficient country. Chinese operators learn the competition work quick. An evidence of that is the fact that many skin care brands show clear influ- ences from other countries. Asian companies are creating new retail brands and concepts specifically for the Chinese market. In addition, Asian coun- tries are moving towards western markets, as seen in the acquisition of large western brands by Asian companies. Mintel’s report mentions examples of this new scenario: the acquisition by Japanese Shiseido of North American make-up company Bare Essentials; the acquisition of South-African Darling and the Yardley operations in the United States and Europe (except in Ger- many) by Godrej, from India. 182
