Work Sheet : Worksheet is a grid made up row and columns where you can input your data and formula. It is just as a note book has number of pages, an MS-Excel workbook has a number of worksheets. By default, there are three worksheet named Sheet1, Sheet2, Sheet3. But you can insert more Work Sheet in a Work Book. Title Bar : The bar which displays name of work book is called title bar. It is placed in the top of the window. Menu Bar : The bar on which all the commands menus are placed. It is available just below of Title Bar. Ribbon : Ribbon is an organization of commands and instructions. When you click on menu option, respective commands are displayed in organized form on the ribbon. Work Book : Document which you create in MS-Excel is called Work- Book. Generally MS-Excel file represents the Workbook where you can create a lot of worksheets as like as book's pages. Row : The horizontal arrangement of cells in the worksheet is known as row. Rows are named using the number 1, 2, 3...There are 1 to 1048576 rows in the MS-Excel 2016. Column : The vertical arrangement of cells in the worksheet is known as column. Columns are labeled using alphabets such as A, B, C,.............. from top to bottom. The last column name is XFD in MS-Excel 2016. There are 16384 columns are there. Cell : It is a unit of spreadsheet, which is formed by the Intersection of row and column on which a pice of data or formula is placed. column letter like A1. Active Cell : The cell in which your pointer is placed and ready to type data, is called active cell. Only one cell can be active at a time. The name of the active cell is shown in the cell address bar. Formula Bar : The bar which is used to display or edit the data present in the active cell is known as the formula bar. Status Bar : The bar which displays various messages regarding the task being carried out on the worksheet is known as status bar. It ap- pears at the bottom of the spreadsheet. Scroll Bar : The bars which allow us to view the different areas of the Excel worksheet is known as scroll bar. The Excel worksheet has two scroll bars one is horizontal scroll bar and another is vertical scroll bar. Start MS-Excel in Steps to follow: Step-1 : Type Ms-Excel search box. Editing Cell Content Editing refers to change or modify existing data in the cell. To edit data in a cell, you first need to put a cell in active mode. You can active the cell by selecting the cell and pressing F2 or simply clicking inside the cell. You can then type at the end of the data. Steps to Follow: Step-1 : Double click the cell that contains the data to be ed- ited. This allows you to make changes to the data in the cell. Step-2 : Edit the data. Step-3 : Press enter key or click out- side the cell to accept the changes made to the cell. Here, it is ready to edit cell B4. Remove the Cell content This is the feature to delete the content of cell or range of cell. Steps to Follow: Step-1 : Select a cell or range of cell Step-2 : Press 'Del' key from the keyboard. Copy and Paste The copy and Paste is used to make a duplicate copy of data in the new place of worksheet: Steps to Follow: Step-1 : Select a cell or range of cell which you want to copy. Step-2 : Click the 'Home' tab Step-3 : Find the 'Clipboard group' and click the 'Copy' option. Step-4 : Select the destination cell where you want to paste . Step-5 : Click on 'Paste' option from the clipboard group of 'Home' tab. It is ready to copy cell range B2 to cell D3 . Cut and Paste The Cut and Paste feature is used to move your data in the new loca- tion. Steps to follow Step-1 : Select a cell or range of cell which you want to copy. Step-2 : Click the 'Home' tab. Insert Column Steps to Follow: Step-1 : Click the a cell on the left of which you want to insert a new column. Step-2 : Find the 'Home' tab. Insert Cell Some times it is not necessary to insert entire row or column, though You need only few cells. In such a case, you can insert a block of cells and select to move the existing cells in the any direction. In order to in- sert range of cells, do the following. Step-6 : Select option 'Shift Cells right' or 'Shift Cells down' Re-sizing single Column Steps to Follow Step-1 : On the column header, move your pointer to the col- umn's right boundary. The mouse pointer will become a cross. Step-2 : Clicking this pointer on the same position to drag the bound- ary on the Left/Right side until the column width get in the size that you want. Re-sizing single row MS-Excell adjusts row height automatically, when you enter character in the basis of character height. Though, some times it may not appropri- ate for you. So, in order to adjust row height yourself, do the following: Steps to Follow Step-1 : On the row header, click on the below row boundary. Step-2 : Drag the boundary up/down until the row is the height be- come in size that you want. Here, row 2 is going to resize. Re-sizing Multiple Columns Steps to follow Step-1 : Select multiple columns by dragging the cursor along the col- umn heading. Step-4 : Enter the new 'Width'. Step-5 : Click on 'Ok'. Or Step-6 : Select the multiple columns by dragging along the column head- ing. Step-7 : Drag the boundary of a single selected column to re-size the column. Step-8 : The selected columns will be changed in their width. Resizing Multiple Row Steps to Follow: Step-1 : Select the multiple rows by dragging the cursor over the row heading. Step-2 : Click the 'Format' arrow in the 'Cells' group of the 'Home' tab. FORMATTING DATA IN THE WORK SHEET Formatting refers to arrangement of data set for good presentation, and appearance on a printed page or visual display . To present the data in effective way, some data can be placed in bold type, italic , in different font face, size and color. This make worksheet attractive and easy to read. There are different aspects of data formatting i.e. number format- ting, date/time formatting, text formatting: here we learn how to make text formatting . Steps to Follow: Step-1 : Select the Cells you want to format. Step-2 : Click the 'Home' tab. Step-3 : Use the Font and Alignment group for basic formatting. Here selecting B1 to D1 and making bold face text formatting. Merging & Center Cell Join the selected cells into one larger cell and center the content into new cell. Example of Formulae: = A1+B1 = A1 *10/100 =B5*C5 =SUM(G5:G10) In this example, the formula =C2*D2 is entered in the cell E2 . Due to this formula, the result 12000 is obtained.
