85th ANNIVERSARY OF NURSING SCHOOL AND THE 3rd INTERNATIONAL NURSING CONFERENCE NARANCHIMEG SODOVSUREN Professor, Department of General practice and Basic skills, School of medicine and The Faculty development center, MNUMS, Nursing consultant at the State Central Third Hospital and National Center for Maternal and Child Health, 2006 FAIMER fellow Ms.Naranchimeg is a graduate of the Sankt-Peterburg Institute of Pediatrics, Russia. In 1985-1995, she worked as a pediatrician at the Bayanzurkh district children’s hospital in the city of Ulaanbaatar. During 1996- 2003 years, she had worked as an officer in charge of the nursing education programs and became the person who introduced revolutionary changes in the post-certificate nursing education. The 1998-1999 years she had spend in the USA to study the nursing education were formative in shaping her approach and reforms in Mongolia’s nursing education. In 2001, upon the initiative of the Ministry of Health, Ms. Naranchimeg became National Advisor to programs run by the WHO Mongolia office and she created a two year program for a nursing associate degree and re-trained 30 faculties in cooperation with directors and faculty of the five nursing schools in Mongolia. Ms.Naranchimeg established the first Nursing department in Mongolia there and was invited to become its Director. In 2003, she founded the department of Nursing at the School of Medicine and headed the department and had been able to introduce a new program linking the training nurses with the basic of nursing for doctors and medical students. She developed the first nursing master’s program in 2000, and doctoral program in 2004. She created a Faculty development program to aid faculties (tutors) with PBL methodology since 2008 at the MNUMS. THE PREPATION OF TEACHERS OF NURSING IN MONGOLIA Naranchimeg.S Professor, Department of General practice and Basic skills, School of Medicine and The Faculty development center, MNUMS OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this presentation to introduce the history of nursing faculties and nursing faculty development programs is the result of the efforts and actions of nurses in past and present. To understand the present status of nursing faculty development, it is necessary to have basic historical knowledge about nursing education. By studying nursing education history, the nurse and other specialist is better able to understand such issues as autonomy (being self-directed), unity within the profession and current practice. History is a study of the past, including events, situations, and individuals. By learning from historical role models, nurses can enhance their abilities to create positive change in the present and set a course for the future. This presentation will be focused on: 1. Preparation nurse researchers and nurse leaders in last decades; 2. Physicians role of educating nurses in Mongolia; 3. The changing role of today’s nurses and patient expectation; 4. Nursing teachers became PBL tutors; 5. The role and importance of advanced nursing practice in Mongolian’s rural and remote areas CONCLUSION: Autonomy has historically been difficult for nurses to achieve. Empowerment and autonomy go together and are necessary if nursing is to bring about positive changes in health care today. 34 АШУҮИС / Сувилахуйн сургууль

EXCELLENT ORAL PRESENTATION JANE SALVAGE EXCELLENT ORAL PRESENTATION Jane Salvage is an international nursing expert and policy activist who works as an independent consultant. She runs Jane Salvage Ltd, offering services as a healthcare consultant, project manager, trainer and writer. She is also a visiting professor and writer in residence at Kingston University and St George’s, University of London. She has a Cambridge degree in English literature, a master’s degree in medical sociology, and two honorary doctorates. Her earlier experience includes spells as Regional Adviser for Nursing and Midwifery at the Regional Office for Europe, World Health Organization (1991-95), where she led support for nursing development in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe and the former USSR, when it was emerging from decades of neglect. She continues to work as a consultant for WHO and other agencies. Among her many publications she is probably best known for her first book, The Politics of Nursing (Heinemann 1985), which she wrote at home on a portable typewriter while building her career as a nursing journalist. She spent a year working for the government in England on the Prime Minister’s Commission on the Future of Nursing and Midwifery in England (2010), and then for the independent Willis Commission on Nursing Education in the United Kingdom (2012). Since then she has worked as a consultant advising the British Ambassador to Mongolia on developing UK- Mongolia health sector partnerships. She is a Research Associate of the Mongolia and Inner Asia Studies Unit, University of Cambridge. This is her third trip to Mongolia, a country she long dreamed of visiting. Jane lets off steam at Arsenal football matches, keeps fit walking and swimming, and often gazes in awe at the moon and stars - especially when staying in a ger in the wonderful Mongolian countryside. www.janesalvage.com GLOBAL NURSING: NEW CHALLENGES AND NEW RESPONSES Jane.S Visiting professor, Kingston University and St George’s, University of London, United Kingdom Project consultant to the British Ambassador’s UK-Mongolia Health Sector Partnership This presentation aims to explore how nurses worldwide can respond more effectively to people’s health needs. It is based on the author’s 25 years of experience of working with nurses, educators and health policy- makers internationally, at home in the U United Kingdom, and in many other countries, including the former USSR, the Central Asian Republics and, most recently, Mongolia. The main challenge facing nurses and other health workers today has been clearly described by the World Health Organization: ‘Medical care can prolong survival after some serious diseases, but the social and economic conditions that affect whether people become ill are more important for health gains in the population as a whole’. Six themes will be discussed: 1. Global health issues; 2. Health systems and nursing issues; 3. what makes us ill or well; 4. the implications for nursing practice; 5. the implications for nursing education; 6. what can we do to make a difference? The presentation concludes with a question for everyone to consider: do I have the courage to be a leader and make things happen? АШУҮИС / Сувилахуйн сургууль 35

85th ANNIVERSARY OF NURSING SCHOOL AND THE 3rd INTERNATIONAL NURSING CONFERENCE YOSHIO JIMBO 3-18-5 Maehara–cho, koganei city, Tokyo, 184-0013 Birth: 3th.december, 1950 Citizenship: Japanese 1976 Graduate from Tokyo medical university 1976-1978 National medical center hospital department of 1978-1990 surgery Tokyo medical university Department of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery 1990- Present Kosei-general hospital 2002-2010 Vice president 2010- present President of Kosei-general hospital 2008- present President of Kosei nursing school 2008- present Prof of Tokyo medical university Specialty Plastic surgery THE FUTURE OF NURSING EDUCATION FROM A PERSPECTIVE OF GLOBAL STANDARDS Yoshio.J1, Sanae.K1 1 Kosei Nursing School, Tokyo, Japan Nurses’ roles are becoming more important every year. In this context, nursing education has greatly changed. Today, we would like to talk about nursing education in Japan and consider future methods for it. We would like to explain the following five bases of nursing education: 1. The importance of team medical care, 2. Respect for patients’ human rights, 3. Risk management, 4. Acquiring professional knowledge and nursing techniques, 5. Simulation training. 1. The importance of team medical care Currently, team medical care is the rule at Japanese hospitals. There are many kinds of specialists at hospitals. It’s extremely important for them to link their skills with one another. To that end, nurses require excellent practical nursing skills. In Japan, doctors used to play a central role in medical care, and nurses were their assistants. Recently, however, health-care workers such as doctors and nurses have been cooperating as equals in providing medical care. Experts display their special skills and share their purposes and information to give patients appropriate care. 2. Respect for patients’ human rights To conform to global standards, patients’ human rights will be respected more than before. In the past, patients’ human rights, their right to consult with health-care professionals about their ailments, and health-care professionals’ accountability about their patients’ ailments were neglected in Japan. Now, however, it’s common for health-care workers to respect patients’ human rights. Training in respect for human rights is very a important part of the curriculum for nurses, and it’s necessary to include it. 36 АШУҮИС / Сувилахуйн сургууль

EXCELLENT ORAL PRESENTATION EXCELLENT ORAL PRESENTATION 3. Risk management Preventing medical accidents and providing safe medical treatment is a most important responsibility of nurses as well as doctors. It is hard for nurses to master risk management if they are taught it after graduation from nursing school. They will naturally come to think about safety if nursing schools include risk management in their curriculum. 4. Acquiring professional knowledge and nursing techniques It’s very important for professional nurses to get a great deal of knowledge in order to carry out their duties. Taking part in team medical care, which I mentioned above, makes nurses more accountable than before. To fulfill their responsibilities, nurses everywhere in the world need to be provided with better education. Furthermore, there are some qualification systems that help nurses improve their skills and knowledge in special fields. As a result, they can do interdisciplinary work in different areas while they apply specialized techniques in their own fields. 5. Simulation training Simulation training is always part of nursing education in Japan. Many kinds of simulation equipment have been invented, along with prepared training sites. Using such equipment makes it possible to acquire knowledge and techniques more effectively, surely, and quickly. But this is just one of many tools. CONCLUSION: The basis of nursing education is the “nursing power” which comes from within each nurse. Advanced nursing techniques based on detailed knowledge are important, but the most essential requirements are treating patients effectively with these techniques as well sharing information with doctors, including various kinds of specialists. Education is the most important key to fulfilling those requirements. We believe that the final goal of nursing education is for prospective nurses to master nursing techniques based on detailed knowledge. We believe that the final goal of nursing education is to teach advanced techniques based on detailed knowledge and to give patients bright smiles and kind words. Every patient you meet needs your smile and warmth. АШУҮИС / Сувилахуйн сургууль 37

EXCELLENT ORAL PRESENTATION EXCELLENT ORAL PRESENTATION I am both delighted and privileged to be a keynote speaker at this important conference. In this address I want to challenge you as a conference participant to consider strategically how you can make a difference to reform healthcare and nursing so that people get the care they deserve. In the 21st century we cannot be complacent for we need to do many things to improve the health and well-being of populations. Achieving higher standards and reforms of health care, practice and educationis never easy, and is always a work in progress. This begins with nurses and other health care professionals striving to be the best educated and informed they can be to work on reforms collaboratively with relevant sectors and communities. This also means working hard at mentoring others, developing leadership, clinical and writing skills, being open- minded, and finding one’s voice to be more confident to speak up to advocate for holistic health and practice. Reforming healthcare and nursing also involves looking at and understanding the global, national and local pictures about health and wellbeing, care and treatment, and trying to ensure that the theory-practice gap is narrowed. The inter-connectedness between cultures and countries is increasing through technology, the migration of populations, and world trade. The Internet and social media provides increasing accessibility to health information, bringing us informed consumers who demand, and deserve, good health care based on sound evidence. More than ever we need to listen to and engage with the consumers of health care in our daily practice. АШУҮИС / Сувилахуйн сургууль 39

The purpose of this study was to evaluate social issues that influence on knowledge, attitude, behavior and skills of nurses. METHODOLOGY: interview with individual and by group in Ulaanbaatar and 6 aimags. Totally 418 nurses are selected. RESULT: 80.6 % of the nurses spend the working hours for injection to patients, 53% of the nurses perform the unplanned duty. 75% of the nurses have a lack of giving advice to patient. 55% of the participants live in ger district, and 60 % of participants are satisfied with their job. CONCLUSION: Nurses tends to not perform their particular duty because of lack of clinical career structures, they spend more time for unnecessary duties. We need to specify their roles in hospital and more flexible management on the nurse’s working condition. For the future path we should improve their working condition, evaluate nurses’ performance honestly. Role-based distribution of work is most essential part of them. bility to communicate and cooperate with people in other roles. At our college the curriculum content has been selected carefully in order to nurture these qualities. Students develop their abilities as specialists over 4 years through systematic and effective learning, focusing on “Self-study”, “Continuation”, “Exploration”, “Practice, “Cooperation”, “Creation & Development”, “Debate”and “Communication”. 85th ANNIVERSARY OF NURSING SCHOOL AND THE 3rd INTERNATIONAL NURSING CONFERENCE NURSING AND MENTAL HEALTH Fiona Nolan Deputy Director of Nursing and Research Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust & University College London In the 1840’s Florence Nightingale tried to meet the needs of psychiatric patients with proper hygiene, better food, light and ventilation and drugs. She believed that asylum attendants should be trained in general hospitals, by medics, alongside general nurses. This was contrary to the belief of psychiatrists at the time, which developed a special, very limited, training programme, for attendants. Models of care include the work of Hildegard Peplau, Movement away from a medically dominated model of care involving diagnosis, medication, and medical interventions (for example Electro-Convulsive Therapy (ECT) , insulin therapy) Social psychiatry considers social determinants of mental illness- including stigma, access to housing and education, relationships, place in society, and adversity. Move to community care meant that nurses provided care in patient’s homes, or social settings. Mental health nursing therefore began to require increased skills in working with families. New phrase- multi-disciplinary team- emerged- acknowledging that decisions around care required input from other professions, not just medics. UK_ National Mental Health Delivery Unit (2010) produced a series of reports on prevalence of mental health problems and the best services in terms of effectiveness. Financial costs of the adverse effects of mental illness on quality of life are significant. The 44 countries include 41 from the European Union (EU), Russia, Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan. Greece had the least number of mental health nurses per 100, 000 populations, with 3; whilst Finland had 163 Turkey had the least number of psychiatrists, with 1, whilst Switzerland had 30. The 15 countries which were in the European Union prior to 2004 had the highest numbers on average, whilst those in the Commonwealth of Independent States (the Russian Commonwealth) had lowest. All countries provided data for psychiatrists, 5 were missing for nurses, and 12 for psychologists. First point: Mental health nurses are required to possess a range of skills to meet the demanding and changing nature of their work.
