MONTHLY CURRICULUM FOR UKG (Blooms) The central tenet of the 3 C’s curriculum is the work time. Work time is given so that children learn the skill of learning how to learn, learning how to relate what they have learnt to the real life situations and also learning how to make the right choices. The class room is organized in the following manner: Different learning areas are earmarked: • Blocks Area: Block of different types are arranged here. Old wooden blocks can also be used. But ensure that the material is neat and clean and appealing for children. You can also use plastic or sponge blocks. • Puzzle area: Puzzles of different types like – flowers, fruits, transport, human body, transport and many such are arranged. • Quiet area: Here some small size desks and chairs are arranged and books with large prints and few words are kept for children to sit and quietly browse and go through the books. • Art area: Arrange an easel board and fix chart papers on it. Keep some water colours, brushes of different sizes and pellets to mix the colours. • Home area: Home utensils of various sizes, spatulas, plates, cups and saucers etc to be organized here. • Manipulative area: Lacing material, large beads, material which can be dismantled and fitted. • Sand play area: Beach equipment and sand. ( you can even keep a tray full of sand if you donot have a large sand area. • Water play area: Water trough, material which floats in the water and material which sinks in water. Pouring cans etc., Children should be given a chance to tour the learning areas and then sit in a circle and plan as to which area they would like to be in. All children sit with fingers on their forehead in a thinking posture and then make a choice of the area they would like to work. 7

Month: June Week-2 Following are the common Format/Questions to be used/ asked for few sessions of the Daily routine. Like: Session Timings Procedure Tour to 9.30 am to 9.40 Teacher makes the students take a tour to all the the am learning areas each day in a different way. Like: learning Crawling, jumping, skipping, crawling, walking, march corners past, hopping, rail engine, etc. Planning 9.40 to 9.50 am All the children are encouraged to ask questions about Time each others’ planning time like: “Where do you want to go today? What do you want to do there?” Work 9.50 to 10.25 am Time While the students are working, teacher is supposed to pick five students to observe based on the parameters given in the “Operations Manual” pg-68 & 69. Clean-up 10.25 to At 10.25, teacher gives a signal that the time is up to wind up their work by playing tambourine while the time 10.30am students are putting back the things in the respective corners. After 7 minutes, teacher instructs the students by saying “Let’s form a circle, let’s form a circle, big and round……”. OR “This is the way we pick our things, pick our things, pick up our things and get back to the large group”. 8

Recall 10.30 to 10.45 When the students form circle, the students are time am encouraged to ask the following questions: Shyam (taking the students’ name)…..where did you go today? What did you do there? What did you use there? Teacher makes the students ask the above questions till everybody gets to share about their work time. In case if they have not done the task according to their plan, teacher can encourage them to do the same task the next day. Snack 10.45 am to Teacher makes the students say the following prayer Time 11.00 am before they start eating: Oh! God I thank u for the world so sweet. I thank u for the food we eat. I thank u aunties, madams, parents and my dear friends. Thank u for everything. While the students are eating their snacks, teacher asks following questions: What are you eating today? Who made the snack? What is the colour of your snack? Do you know how is it made? Free 11.00 to 11.15 To enable the gross motor development happen in Play am students, teacher can take up the following activities: Walking on toes, walking on heels, balancing a book on the head and walking, walking on the parapet wall, skipping, jumping, aim and hit, walking/ running on the zig-zag line, walking/running on a line, walking on bricks, etc. 9

Note: Teacher can accept bilingual responses during the snack time. But repeat the same dialogue in English for the students to understand in English. 10

Day-1 Greeting time: 9.00 am to 9.30 am Teacher makes the students stand in a circle and make them to sing the below mentioned prayer song: God’s love it’s so wonderful! (2) Oh! Wonderful god! It’s so high, You can’t get over it, It’s so deep, You can’t get under it, It’s so deep, You can’t get around it, Oh wonderful god! Teachers can pick some rhymes from the books and make them say it with actions. Teacher makes the students sit in a circle and displays few objects which are of different shapes like, square, rectangle, round, etc. She asks each one to identify the square shape from them. 9.30 to 10.00 am: Show and tell: Give each child a biscuit shaped round, triangle and Encourage each child to show the photograph and talk about themselves 10.00 to 10.30 am: Weather chart: Talk to the children about the weather. Is it too hot, rainy, windy or cold? Discuss what they are wearing and why. Discuss the date, day and month. Ask the students to make the appropriate entry in the weather chart once the 11

discussion is over.( For weather chart – take a chart paper and make squares in it. If it is sunny draw a sun, if rainy draw a cloud with rain drops, if it is cold draw a cloud and snow flakes or draw wavy lines to show the shivering due to cold) 10.30 to 11.00 : Work time 11.00 to 11.15: Snack time Small Group Activity: 11.15 to 11.45 am Concept: Recap of Alphabet-A-J Teacher introduces the above mentioned alphabet by showing the related objects/pictures. She shows each picture/object and asks each one to identify the alphabet with which it starts. She also asks the students to say the sound of each letter. She then makes the students do related skill sheet (as given in the I Term Curriculum). Structured Play: 11.45 to 12.10 Teacher makes the students form a perfect square by standing on the square drawn on the floor. She also makes them to run, jump, and hop on the square and also around the square. Large Group Time: 12.10 to 12.45 pm Story time: Teacher takes up a story on good habits: There were two children Laila and Ram. These two were good friends. Laila always listened keenly to her teacher and followed the rules. One of it was to wash hands before and after eating food. She was very healthy and never fell sick. Ram would never listen to his teacher and was disobedient. When food was served he would directly eat without washing his hands and even after eating he would wipe his hand but was lazy to go and wash it. He would often fall sick because the germs in his hand would cause diseases and infection. Once he was very sick and had to take an injection. This made him very sad and when he came to school, he shared with laila and then Laila told him to follow the 12

rules and stay tuned to good habits. From then on, Ram always followed the rules and washed his hands before and after and was very healthy. Songs and Rhymes 12.45 to 1.00 pm Teacher makes the students repeat the action songs which they have already learnt. 13

Day-2 Show and tell activity: 9.00 to 9.30am Concept: Recap of A-J Teacher displays different objects on the floor and makes each student to pick one object, and say the name aloud. Teacher also emphasizes on the different sounds which the word has and also lead them to get the spelling of each word/object. Note: Teacher to ensure that the objects displayed are only three letter words. 9.30 to 10.00 am: Likes and dislikes: Circle time: Today’s theme – Likes/dislikes Intro to the topic Ask each child to tell o What he/ she likes the most? o What he/she dislikes the most? 10.00 to 10.30 am: Vowels: Recap of Vowels • Make the vowel cards with 5 different colors. Each vowel card of same vowel should be of the same colour. Eg all cards of letter a should be of red colour. • Distribute 5 vowel cards to each child a-red, e-green, i-yellow, o-orange, u- blue • Call out a vowel sound and the students hold up the vowel they heard! • Call out a vowel word and the students hold up the vowel they heard! For example: ant, apron • Check the colour of the card. Whole class holds up the same colour card. Otherwise re teach the one’s who need help. 10.30 – 11.00 am: work time 11.00 – 11.15 am: Snack time Small Group Activity: 11.15 to 11.45 am Concept: Reinforcement of writing numbers 1-10 Teacher makes the students write numbers from 1-10 and 10-1 in the square ruled book. 14

Structured Play: 11.45 to 12.10am Teacher draws nine big squares on the floor. She writes one alphabet in each square. She makes all the students stand in a large circle around the squares. Teacher shows a picture and instructs the students to go stand in that particular square with which the object/pictures starts with. Large Group Time: 12.10 to 12.45 pm Teacher makes the students do the worksheet related to a-j or make them to write in the four ruled book. Same can be given as HW. Songs and Rhymes 12.45 to 1.00 pm Teacher makes the students repeat any action song which they have already learnt. 15

Day-3 Circle time: 9.00 to 9.30am Concept: Recap of ‘up and down’ Teacher makes the students stand up and sit down. While she is doing so she gives gestures of both up and down. She also demonstrates the concept of up and down by showing different object/rooms or trees/plants which are up and down. 9.30 to 10.00 am: Activity: Ball game Resources: ball Steps: Take the students to the playground Ask them to jump, run and hop in the playground. Now make them stand in a line with their legs apart Make them stand in two lines. They need to pass the ball between their legs and the group which does first wins. This is a team game and will develop team spirit Ensure safety all the time. 10.00 to 10.30 am: Common rules to follow at all times: Circle time: teacher can discuss with children and come out with these basic rules which they need to follow at all times. Class rules: Talk to the children about the class rules; good habits & manners Greet everyone in the morning (At home and at school) Put your hand up when you want to speak or say something Wait for your turn and do not interrupt Listen when the teacher is giving instructions or others are talking Do not disturb, pull or push others Use of magic words ‗Thank you and sorry 10.30 am to 11.00 am: Work time 11.00 to 11.15 am: Snack time Small Group Activity: 11.15 to 11.45 am 16

Concept: Reinforcement of writing numbers 11-20 Teacher makes the students write numbers from 11-20 and 20-11 in the square ruled book. Small Group time: 11.45 to 12.10am Straw stringing: Cut plastic straws into pieces and children need to run a thin rope into it and make it into a necklace or a bracelet. This is good for their find motor development. Large Group Time: 12.10 to 12.45 pm Concept: Reinforcement of ‘Up and Down” Teacher makes the students do the worksheet related to up-down given from the activity book. Songs and Rhymes 12.45 to 1.00 pm Teacher makes the students repeat the action songs related to up and down which they have already learnt. 17

Day-4 Show and tell activity: 9.00 to 9.30 Concept: Recap of alphabet A-L (sounds and symbol of the alphabet) Procedure followed to be as mentioned for the alphabet a-l in the previous session. 9.30 to 10.00 am: Reinforcement of numbers from 1 to 20: Teacher makes children reinforce by writing on the board with blanks and children are asked to fill in the blanks. Each time a different number and children need to tell the number and at the end of it teacher can make them repeat sequentially. 10.00 to 10.30 am: weather chart: Same procedure as was given earlier 10.30 to 11.00 am: Work time 11.00 to 11.15 am: snack time Small Group Activity: 11.15 to 11.45 am Concept: Writing of alphabet A-L and a-l Teacher makes the students write the above mentioned alphabets in the four ruled book. Structured Play: 11.45 to 12.10am The ball team game can be repeated again Large Group Time: 12.10 to 12.45 pm Teacher makes the students do the worksheet related to the alphabet A-L, a-l or makes them write in their note books (four ruled). The same can be given as HW. Songs and Rhymes 12.45 to 1.00 pm Teacher makes the students sing rhymes with action for energizing them. 18

Day-5 Circle time: 9.00 to 10.00 am: Concept: Numbers 1-10- forward and backward counting Teacher displays the flash card numbers and asks each student to arrange in sequence one after the other. She also calls the students one after the other and keep the objects as against to the number. For eg, the student is supposed to place seven objects against to the number-7. She makes the students count all the numbers both forward and backward. 10.00 to 10.30 am: Repeat of vowel activity. Small Group Activity: 11.15 to 11.45 am Concept: Numbers and values Teacher makes the students write numbers and draw pictures like flowers, leaves., pencils against each number Structured Play: 11.45 to 12.10am Teacher makes the students do the worksheet related to red color from the activity book. Large Group Time: 12.10 to 12.45 pm Teacher makes the students do the worksheets related to 1-10-writing given in pg- 15 and backward counting of10-1 from the activity book. Songs and Rhymes 12.45 to 1.00 pm Teacher makes the students sing rhymes from the rhymes book. 19

MONTHLY CURRICULUM FOR UKG (Blooms) Month: June Week-3 Day-1 Circle time: 9.00 am to 9.30 am Concept: Alphabet A-T, a-t Teacher displays objects/pictures of alphabet a-t. She asks each student to identify and say it aloud. Teacher ensures that every student is given chance to share in the large group. 9.30 to 10.00 am: These are a few of my favourite things Ask few questions to find out their favourite things? • Which is your favourite colour? • Which toys do you like the most? Recap of number 1-20 and starting of 21 to 40: same procedure as given earlier. 10.30 to 11.00: Work time 11.00 to 11.15 am: Snack time Small Group Activity: 11.15 to 11.45 am Teacher makes the students to the worksheet related to letters from the activity book. A to Z capital letters. This is a recap of what they have learnt in Nursery and LKG. Structured Play: 11.45 to 12.10pm Teacher makes the students sit in the ground and displays the flash cards of alphabet a-t. She instructs each student to pick one object/picture and asks him/her to identify it and also tell the sounds of each alphabet in the word. 20

Large Group Time: 12.10 to 12.45 pm Teacher displays all the flash cards of alphabet A-T and a-t. She calls each student and asks him/her to match capital letter with small letter. Songs and Rhymes 12.45 to 1.00 pm Teacher makes the students sing action songs of the related letters of the alphabet eg: rhyme a,b,c,d,e,f,g 21

Day-2 Show and tell activity: 9.00 to 9.30am Concept: Alphabet A-N Teacher encourages displays the flash cards of alphabets a-n and instructs each student to pick one alphabet and pick up one objects starting with that alphabet and say it aloud in turns. 9.30 to 10.00 am: Fine motor activity: Palm printing on a white sheet of paper. Colour each child’s hand with water colours and make them create an impression on a white sheet of paper and then let it dry and make them write a,e,I,o,u on each finger tip. Vowels are very important and will be repeated from time to time in the curriculum. 10.00 to 10.30: Numbers from 1 to 10 from activity book. 10.30 to 11.00 : Work time 11.00 to 11.15 am: Snack time Small Group Activity: 11.15 to 11.45 Concept: square shape- free hand drawing Teacher makes the students draw a perfect square in the given paper and color it with any color of their choice. Structured Play: 11.45 to 12.10am Concept: Recap of alphabet a-n & A-N. Teacher makes the students sit in a circle and gives each student a flash card of capital letter and small letter. Teacher instructs the students to show the flash card and one amongst the others is supposed to stand and show the matching card. 22

For e.g., if the student gets ‘t’ will have to show the card and stand in the middle of the center the other student who got ‘T’ is also supposed to stand along with him/her. Large Group Time: 12.10 to 12.45 pm Concept: Reinforcement of A-N, a-n in writing Teacher to use the worksheets given in the activity book for the related alphabet. Songs and Rhymes 12.45 to 1.00 pm Teacher makes the students sing rhymes from the rhymes book related to numbers eg: 1,2,3,4,5 once I caught a fish alive……... 23

Day-3 Circle time: 9.00 to 9.30am Concept: Recap of alphabet A-P, a-p Teacher shows the objects of related alphabet and asks each student to pick one object and also the related alphabet both small and capital from the given flash cards of alphabet, pictures and objects. Small Group Activity: 11.15 to 11.45 am Concept: ‘c’ letter words Teacher makes the students do the worksheet related to ‘c’ letter words from the activity book. Structured Play: 11.45 to 12.10am Concept: Forward and Backward counting of numbers from 11-20 Teacher draws ten small circles or squares one below the other in a single row. She makes the students identify the number according to the position of the number. She makes the students walk, run over the drawn figures by saying the numbers aloud. She makes the students walk across both forward and backward i.e, from 1-10 & 10- 2. She repeats the same procedure by placing another row beside the first one i.e 11-20 & 20-11. Large Group Time: 12.10 to 12.45 pm Concept: Recap of ‘above and below” Teacher demonstrates the concept by using the classroom environment by asking questions like: What is above the table? 24

What is above the fan? Etc, She then makes them do the related worksheet from the activity book. Songs and Rhymes 12.45 to 1.00 pm Teacher makes the students repeat any action song familiar to them. 25

Day-4 Show and tell activity: 9.00 to 9.30 Concept: Recap of red color and square shape Students are instructed to explore the classroom and asked to bring objects which are square in shape and red in color. 9.30 to 10.00 am: Show and tell: Children need to pick objects from the learning areas starting with letters from a to m and speak about it. 10.00 to 10.30 am: Teacher should make the children do the shapes worksheet from the activity book Small Group Activity: 11.15 to 11.45 am Concept: Freehand drawing Teacher asks the students draw something of their own and color it in red. Structured Play: 11.45 to 12.10am Concept: Forward and backward counting of nos from 11-20 Teacher repeats the same procedure as mentioned in the previous session. Large Group Time: 12.10 to 12.45 pm Teacher makes the students do the worksheet related to square and red color from the activity book. Songs and Rhymes 12.45 to 1.00 pm Teacher makes the students sing the rhymes with action. 26

Structured Play: 11.45 to 12.10am Concept: Reinforcement of values Teacher repeats the same procedure for values as mentioned in the previous sessions, i.e numbers on the floor and student put the right number of objects as against the number. Large Group Time: 12.10 to 12.45 pm Concept: number values Teacher makes the students do the related worksheet in the activity book. 27

Songs and Rhymes 12.45 to 1.00 pm Teacher makes the students repeat the alphabet related action songs which were already taught to them in LKG. 28

Month: June MONTHLY CURRICULUM FOR UKG (Blooms) Week-4 Day-1 Circle time: 9.00 am to 10.00 am Concept: Recap of body parts Teacher calls one student in the center of the circle and calls another student and asks him/her to identify different body parts. After everybody recognizes the body parts, teacher then asks the use of every body part by posing questions like: What do you do with your hands? What do you do with your legs? And so on…….. She then tells the students that each body part is very important to do our regular work. Teacher also tries to elicit other uses of the body parts. She is supposed to ask questions like, what else you do with your hands, legs, etc. 10.00 to 10.30 am: up and down: students will be taken outside and they will point out to things which are up and those which are down. 10.30 to 11.00 am: Work time 11.00 to 11.15 am: snack time Small Group Activity: 11.15 to 11.45 am Concept: red color 29

Teacher makes the students do the related worksheet in the skill sheets book using red colour crayon. Structured Play: 11.45 to 12.10pm Concept: Introduction of before, after and between numbers Teacher makes the students stand in a circle. She instructs the students to go to the number which she says. If he/she is correct, then other students are instructed to raise their thumb up, if it is wrong, then thumb down. Note: Teacher is supposed to draw twenty circles 10 in each row, write the numbers in each circle i.e from 1-20. Teacher follows the same procedure and covers after, before and between numbers from 1-20. Large Group Time: 12.10 to 12.45 pm Concept: Before, after and between numbers Teacher makes the student do the related worksheet from the activity book. Songs and Rhymes 12.45 to 1.00 pm Teacher makes the students repeat the action song “Head and shoulders, knees and toes”. Note: Teacher to refer June, July curriculum book for the above mentioned rhyme in case she doesn’t know it. 30

Day-2 Show and tell activity: 9.00 to 9.30am Concept: Alphabet A-V, a-v Teacher makes the students sit in a circle and shows them objects related to the above mentioned alphabets. Each student is instructed to pick one alphabet and also object starting with that particular alphabet and say it aloud. The same procedure is repeated by the teacher till everybody gets their turn to share. 9.30 to 10.00 am: Circle time: Talk to the children about good manners. • We greet people differently at different times of the day. • Wish „Good Morning‟ to everyone in the morning. Talk to them about the importance of wishing each other and their elders Small Group Activity: 11.15 to 11.45 Concept: Writing alphabet A-V Teacher makes the students do the worksheet related to the alphabets. Structured Play: 11.45 to 12.10am Concept: Free play Teacher makes the students play with all the equipment displayed in the ground. Note: Teacher to ensure that the students don’t fight for the equipment and also they don’t push each other or hurt each other. Large Group Time: 12.10 to 12.45 pm Concept: words with letters ‘e’ and ‘f’ Teacher makes the students do the worksheet related the above mentioned concept from the activity book. Songs and Rhymes 12.45 to 1.00 pm Teacher makes the students repeat any action song related to numbers eg 1, 2, buckle my shoe. 31

Day-3 Circle time: 9.00 to 10.00 am Concept: Recap of sense organs and their functions Teacher displays objects like, rock, cotton, flowers, sugar, salt, etc. in the center of the circle. She calls one student and blind folds him/her. She asks the student to identify the object. She instructs other students not to prompt the answers. After two or three students get their turn to do so, teacher asks the following questions: Guess what is it? How do feel it soft or rough? How does it taste? Teacher then sums up the session by saying that “we see with our eyes, hear with our ears, feel hot or cold in our skin, and smell with our nose. These organs are called as sense organs. Because we get knowledge about smell, taste, touch, etc”. 10.00 to 10.30: Number work make them do the worksheet from activity book related to numbers upto 50. 10.30 to 11.00: Work time 11.00 to 11.15 am: Snack time Small Group Activity: 11.15 to 11.45 am Concept: a-v Teacher makes the students write the small alphabets in their four ruled book. The same can be given as HW also. Structured Play: 11.45 to 12.10am Concept: Kicking the ball 32

Teacher takes a rubber ball and makes the students stand in a line. She asks each child to kick the ball in any direction as hard as possible. The child is supposed to say “look at the ball and kick this way”. Each child is given chance to repeat till everyone learns to kick the ball independently. Large Group Time: 12.10 pm to 12.45 pm Concept: Recap of before, after and between numbers from 1-20 Teacher displays the flash cards of the above mentioned numbers in the center of the circle. She shows one number and calls one child to pick the number which comes after that number. She shows two numbers and asks another student to show the number which comes in between those two numbers. She repeats the same procedure until everybody gets their chance to share. Songs and Rhymes 12.45 to 1.00 pm Teacher makes the students repeat the following action song: Out in the garden one fine day, With my ball I like to play I bounce my ball (2) I throw my ball each fine day I catch my ball I kick my ball I roll my ball I push my ball, each fine day. 33

Day-4 Show and tell activity: 9.00 to 9.30 am Concept: alphabet A-Z Teacher makes the students identify the objects related to that alphabet in turns. She also makes the students identify different sounds in the word. For eg, if the child has picked up egg picture, he/she is supposed to pick up the alphabet ‘e’ and then tell the sound of every letter in the word (egg). 9.30 to 10.30: Right and left: Teacher should show children her right and left and all of them stand in the same direction as her and then makes them repeat all the objects to her right and left. This is followed by the rhyme Boogie Woogie You put your left hand in, You put your left hand out; You put your left hand in, And shake it all about. Do the boogie woogie And turn yourself around. That's what it's all about! You put your right hand in, You put your right hand out; You put your right hand in, And shake it all about. Do the boogie woogie And turn yourself around. That's what it's all about! You put your left leg in, You put your left leg out; You put your left leg in, And shake it all about. Do the boogie woogie And turn yourself around. Month: July MONTHLY CURRICULUM FOR UKG (Blooms) Theme: Myself Week-1 Day-1 Circle time: 9.00 am to 9.30 am Concept: Organs of the body – heart Teacher makes the students sit in a circle and shows the model/picture of heart. She asks the students to identify it. If the students are not able to identify, teacher tells them that the part shown/displayed is called as ‘heart’. She asks the students to keep their right hand on the left side of the chest portion. She asks them about their feelings. Following are the answers expected from the students: Can feel some sound. Palm moving up and down. After eliciting few more responses, teacher sums up the session by saying that, ‘heart is a very important organ’. She also tells them that the heart beats 95-100 times in a minute for children of their age group. Doctor uses stethoscope to find out the heart beat of his patients. Small Group Activity: 11.15 to 11.45 am Concept: Recap of all the alphabets A-Z, a-z Teacher makes the students write the alphabets a-z both small and capital letters in the four ruled note book. Structured Play: 11.45 to 12.10pm Concept: Our body 37

Material required: Old newspaper, magazine sheets, large sheets of white or brown paper Procedure: Teacher makes the students sit in a circle. Each child is given a big piece of paper and asked to tear it into small pieces. She spreads a large sheet of paper on the floor. She makes one child like down on it. Another child is asked to draw the outline of the child’s body on the paper. Teacher makes the students apply glue on the outline and paste pieces of paper on the drawn shape. Note: Teacher to ensure that students clean up the after the activity. Large Group Time: 12.10 to 12.45 pm Concept: Numbers 21-30-forward and backward counting Teacher displays the flash cards of all the numbers in the center of the circle. She calls one student and instructs him/her to make 21 and also say the number aloud. Likewise, she calls each student in turns and makes one child make the number and the other child to say the number aloud. She then, makes everybody repeat the numbers from 21-30. Teacher also makes the students count all the numbers from backwards. Day-2 Circle time: 9.00 to 9.30am Concept: This and that Teacher displays few objects in the center of the circle and few more in the corner of the classroom. Teacher asks each student to identify each object and say in complete sentence using, “this is _______ or that is________” Teacher clarifies to the students that , ‘this’ is used when you are talking about a person, place or thing which is closer to us, where as ‘that’ is used when it is far from us. Small Group Activity: 11.15 to 11.45 Concept: Concept of ‘this’ and ‘that’ Teacher makes the students do worksheet related to the above mentioned concept in pg-59 from skill sheets book. Structured Play: 11.45 to 12.10am Concept: between, before, after numbers from 21-30 Teacher displays the numbers or writes from 21-30 on the floor in a sequence and calls each student to identify the number before the ones which is flashed or showed to them. For eg, if the teacher shows the flash card of 24 and asks them to go the number after it, then the student is supposed to go to 25. She repeats the same procedure till she ensures that every student is given chance to share. Large Group Time: 12.10 to 12.45 pm Concept: Writing numbers from 21-30 and 30-21 Teacher makes the students do the related worksheet in the activity book. 39

Songs and Rhymes 12.45 to 1.00 pm Teacher makes the students repeat the previous day’s action song. 40

Day-3 Circle time: 9.00 to 9.30am Concept: Organs of the body-Brain Teacher poses the following questions: What did you do yesterday? Where did you go? Do you remember what did we learn last week? How are you able to remember all the past things? Teacher sums up the session by saying that ‘brain is an important organ which helps us to remember all the past things. The brain is situated in the head. She also emphasizes on importance of head. People who drive two-wheeler must wear a helmet to protect from dangers. 9.30 to 10.30- circle time: Discussion on helping parents: Teachers start the discussion with a little story: There was a little boy who loved helping his mother and father. Every morning he would get up on his own. He had the alarm on in the night so that he could get up without his parents telling him to do so. Then he would go to the bathroom brush his teeth and go the open area in his house and there he would do some exercises like stretching, bending and jogging. After which he would drink the milk his mother gives him. He would then water the plants in the garden. Take his bath and get ready for school. He would pack his school bag. Have his breakfast and after breakfast he would clear his plate and put it in the kitchen sink. Then go to school. When he returns from school he would change his clothes and put his shoes and socks in place and eat the snacks his mother gives him and go out to play. After returning from play he would do his homework and read what his teacher taught for that day and then have little fun with his parents and watch TV for some time and have his dinner and then say his prayer to God for the wonderful day He has given them and by 9 in the night he would go to sleep. His mother would read a story to him and hearing that he would fall asleep. 41

Telling them this story teacher should initiate the discussion. Ask them questions on how they help their parents and regarding their habits. This discussion can be taken up for 2 to 3 days. 10.30 to 11.00 am: Work time 11.00 to 11.15 am: Snack time Small Group Activity: 11.15 to 11.45 am Concept: Reinforcement of color-red and square Teacher makes the student do the worksheet related to the above concept from the activity book. Structured Play: 11.45 to 12.10am Concept: Identifying square shape from the given shapes Teacher draws different shapes on the floor and instructs each student to jump only in the squares. Note: Teacher to keep the drawing ready before she takes the students into the ground. Large Group Time: 12.10 pm to 12.45 pm Concept: Numbers- before, after, between 21-30 Teacher makes the students do the worksheet related to the above mentioned concept from the activity book. Songs and Rhymes 12.45 to 1.00 pm Teacher makes the student repeat the following action song: Put your right hand in, put your right hand out, Put your right hand in, And shake it all about. 42

Day-4 Circle time: 9.00 to 9.30 am Concept: Organs of the body-Stomach Teacher asks the following questions: What did you have for breakfast? What did you bring for snack time? What did your mother prepare for lunch? How many times a day do you eat food? Why do you need to eat so many times? Where does the food go that we eat? Teacher sums up the session by saying that, “the food we eat reaches the stomach and the food gets digested in the stomach only. So one needs to take care of the stomach by not eating stale or uncovered food.” Teacher also brainstorms on the effects of stomach upsets and also few more reasons for stomach upset. 9.30 to 10.30 : Circle time activity on helping parents to continue. 10.30 to 11.00 am: Work time 11.00 to 11.15 am: Snack time Small Group Activity: 11.15 to 11.45 am Concept: Reinforcement of ‘this and that’ Teacher makes the students do the worksheet related to the above mentioned concept from the activity book. Structured Play: 11.45 to 12.10 pm Concept: Identification of squares in the given shapes 44

Teacher follows the same procedure as mentioned in the previous session. Before, after and in between numbers for 21 – 30: Related worksheet from the activity book. Please introduce the concept of before, after and in between numbers through an activity on the floor. Draw large squares on the floor and write numbers from 21 to 30 alternately. Now ask children to fill in the missing number and after that make them do the worksheet in the activity book. Large Group Time: 12.10 to 12.45 pm Concept: Introduction of the story ‘The Dove and the ant” Teacher shows the story cards in a sequence and asks the students do describe every sequence in the story. Every child is given chance to contribute one incident to make the story. Note: Teacher should not stop the child’s expression. It is not required that the child should narrate all the situations exactly according to the original story. Songs and Rhymes 12.45 to 1.00 pm: Hands on my hips Hands on my hips, what is this here? (Point your finger to your eyes) This is my eye see ‘ er mummy my dear. Eye see’er, Eye see’er nicky nicky knows… This is what they tell me when I go to school. (Similarly substitute Eyes with nose smeller, ear hearer , mouth eater and head thinker.) Teacher teaches this rhyme and makes students learn this rhyme and then make them repeat the previous days’ action song. 45

Day 5 Circle time: 9.00 to 9.30 am Concept: Lungs Teacher makes the students sit in a circle and ask each student to breathe in breathe out. She also asks them to hold their breath for some time and finds out how they feel. She then explains the students that lungs are very important organs in our body. The air we breathe in will get into lungs, gets purified and then passes to all the parts of the body. She also lays emphasis on different diseases caused due to breathing in polluted air. She also ponders on breathing fresh air for which going for a morning walk, growing plants at home, playing in the parks will help us get lots of fresh air, etc. 9.30 to 10.30 am: Fist painting: Take white sheets of paper and give one sheet to each child. Each of them should be given one sheet. Make children keep their hands in the fist form and let each child dip the fist in paint and press it on the paper. These can later be made by the teacher in the form of large petals or mice etc. This is a fun activity and helpful to children for fine motor development. 10.30 to 10.50 am: Snack time 10.50 to 11.15 am: Numbers 31 to 40: Recap of numbers 31 to 40. Give children ice cream sticks and make them bundle into groups of 10 each and make three such bundles and then start with another set by counting 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, 36, 37, 38, 39 and 40. Worksheet in activity book to be done after this. Small Group Activity: 11.15 to 11.45 am Concept: Writing A-Z, a-z 46

Teacher makes the students write all the alphabets both in upper case and lower case from skill sheets book. Structured Play: 11.45 to 12.10 pm Concept: Teacher displays few objects in the ground at different distances horizontally and makes the students stand opposite to the objects like plastic bottles/wooden bottles and instructs the students to hit as many objects as possible. Note: The distance to be maintained between the objects and child hitting them should be around 8-10 ft. Large Group Time: 12.10 to 12.45 pm Concept: Continuation of the story ‘The Dove and the ant” Teacher recollects the previous day’s story which the students constructed with their own thoughts by seeing the pictures. She then starts narrating the actual story using proper gestures and body language. Songs and Rhymes 12.45 to 1.00 pm: Repeat the rhyme: Hands on my hips What is this dear? And other rhymes as per children’s choice. 47

Month: July MONTHLY CURRICULUM FOR UKG (Blooms) Theme: Myself Week-2 Day-1 Focus this week on Health and hygiene Circle time: 9.00 am to 9.30 am: Prayer, rhymes and circle time: Introduce this prayer for the children which can be taken up on a daily basis too. Dear God, I am in your presence at all times, Please illumine my mind, With true knowledge of you And fill my heart with great love for you Bless my country and school Teachers, family and friends Help me to serve my neighbours out of love for you. Rhymes to be introduced are: HEALTHY VEGETABLES I ate a red tomato, The biggest I have seen. I ate a long cucumber, It was the color green I ate some yellow corn That was sweet as sweet could be. When I eat my colors, I know I'm healthy! 48

This is the way we brush our teeth, Brush our teeth etc and so on. After rhymes make children do simple exercises. Exercise 1: • Children stand in their places and jog on the spot. Exercise 2: • Children stretch their hands forward and turn their wrists round and round and then the hands and then the neck and wrist and then the ankles. Circle time: 9.30 to 10.00 am: Concept to be taken up: Taking care of themselves: Initiate circle time discussion with the following questions: 1. What do you do when you get up in the morning? 2. How can you keep yourself clean? 3. Which soap do you use for taking bath? (this question is for a general discussion only and not related to concept) 4. Why is important to take bath daily twice? 5. Why should you walk your hands before and after eating? (Teacher can ask any other question depending on the situation) 10.00 to 10.40 am: Work time. 10.40 to 11.00: Snack time. 11.00 to 11.30 am: Language development: Introduction of vowels: Introduction of letter “a” as a vowel. Teacher draws on the board a cat, mat, rat, fan, man and by the side of each picture puts c – t, and so on. She then elicits from children what the letter in the middle is. Children will say a in each word. Then she leads them to make some more words with letter “a”. 49

11.30 t0 12.00 noon: Math: Recap of numbers 41 to 50: First introduce through a floor board activity the numbers 41 to 50 and then administer worksheet in the activity book. 12.00 to 12.30 pm: Clay moulding: Teacher should give children small balls of clay. Let each child make any object of choice and then explain what has been made. 12.30 to 1.00 pm: Concept up and down: Teacher recapitulates the concept of up and down. She points to various objects which are up and which are down. Rhyme on up and down: Up goes the balloon up, up up Down comes the rain pitter, patter, pitter Up goes the umbrella tak, tak, tak, Rain boots come down from the attic Children walk in the rain and their legs go up and down, up and down, up and down. That’s all for the day folks. Bid the children a warm bye and write in the diary what they have done for the day. 50
