THE ROTARACT CLUB OF KELANIYA Quarantine in Style 73 73 A highlight for the year 2019-2020 was the pandemic faced by not only one country but a whole world. Covid-19 virus, a small micro-organism filled the minds of the entire world with terror and uncertainty as countries went into lockdowns, affecting the day today lives of all the citizens. People were scared to get out of their houses, No more celebrations, as countries were facing hundreds of deaths per day bringing everyone mourn for the deaths around the world. However during this lockdown it was our concern to keep the members busy and make sure we come out of this situation together as one. As an initiative to keep members occupied during this time, we challenged our members to use the given time at home to learn and to enjoy. The members were motivated to learn new things and revisiting their original talents they possessed from childhood such as singing, cooking, reading, writing and many more. We made this hard time an opportunity to work on ourselves. As a token of memory to look back into and smile again as the pandemic comes to an end we decided to make a video with all what we did during this period and how we had fun being at home and shared with our fellow Rotaractors motivating them to take part in the same. The project was planned and initiated on the 22nd of March during the general meeting requesting all members to try out a new hobby or anything that interests them and share a video of it which was then put together as one video reflecting the work of all members. Thereafter the video was shared on social media platforms. Annual Report 2019/20 71

THE ROTARACT CLUB OF KELANIYA 50 Years of Celebration Year 2019-20 marks the 50 years of Rotaract Sri Lanka and we’re celebrating all year long! 50 years of taking action, leading our communities, and changing the world deserves a big celebration. The Rotaract club as a non-profit organization has not only become the indisputable part of the whole Rotary International family but has initially grown to the largest international organization and network of young and prospective people who advocate for community service, friendship, professional contacts, and generally fostering understanding in the world we are living in. One Rotaract club involves many different profiles of individuals, but at the end of the day we all aim at the same, common goal. Providing long-term benefits to the environment among us, where we operate on a daily basis. To Celebrate the 50 Years we create a Platform to Express Individual Experience as how Rotaract Help them in person and what Rotaract is for them. 96 Annual Report 2019/20

THE ROTARACT CLUB OF KELANIYA Cluster Project Aloha – The Hawaiian Party was successfully held on the 31st of January 2019 at the Beacon- Resolute, Rajagiriya from 6.00 p.m onwards and it was an interesting joint initiative of the Rotaract Clubs of Cluster 04, belonging to Rotaract District 3220. Rotaract Clubs of ACBT, APIIT, Colombo Central, Colombo West, Ja ela/Kandana, Kelaniya, Nallur Heritage, Pamunugama, UOC FMF, University of Peradeniya. From the initial point of preparation which was all about meeting up and planning it together, to shopping for party supplies along the streets of Pettah to the very end of the party, it offered an opportunity to keep us all engaged and excited. Thus, “Aloha” was much more than a chance to merely gather and party. Dressed up in strikingly colourful attire, wearing the luminous coloured flower garlands given at the entrance and dancing to the toe-tapping beats of party music, the guests at “Aloha” truly added a little tropical flare to the last Friday of the first month of a new decade. The conventional party games had been organized too, where Rtr. Lahiru Perera and Rtr. Shelisha Mendis from the Rotaract Club of Ja-Ela/Kandana were crowned as the Aloha King and Queen respectively following an excitingly competitive session of balloon dancing. As the clicking of pictures, dancing and loud chatter continued, everyone quite generously filled themselves up with food to give them the extra boost of energy to keep the momentum of the night going. The time to leave the party arrived, a little earlier than the dawn of the following night. Keeping to the promise of leaving the venue like how it was when we entered it, everyone present tidied the place in no time, clicked the final group pictures and left with the memories of a night where we ate, laughed, danced and bonded through a thrilling Hawaiian experience! The spirits of Aloha yet continue, for it was a reflection of a core value of our movement – Fellowship! The time and energy spent was indeed an investment which yielded greater engagement thereby leading to lifelong friendships-the mortar which binds us and our initiatives together, assuring a sound foundation for Rotaract.
