Message from Significant Individuals

THE ROTARACT CLUB OF KELANIYA Message from the President One year ago, Rotary International adopted a new vision statement, reflecting our aspirations for our organization and its future, where all Rotaract Clubs part of the RID 3220, embarked on a journey of effectuating ‘Rotary Connects the World’ under the visionary leadership of DRR Rtr. PP. Krishan Balaji. The District theme was built on the important elements and the Rotaractors truly lived up to it by initiating and executing noteworthy projects of long term impact on the community, while meaningfully developing and Connecting professionally. While celebrating its 20th Anniversary, Rotaract Club of Kelaniya was able to bring such “positive change” into the club, where we were able to directly engage in and serve the movement at large. While carrying out notable projects in its own capacity, including its two signature projects Think Pink & Game On, we were able to complete different impactful projects such as Defend the Ocean, Christmas Wish, Accidentally Digital and Twin Club Agreement. Think Pink being a Community Service Project aiming at empowering women with knowledge of Breast Cancer prevention, one of the most fatal diseases today & Game On being the only HandBall Tournament in the Rotaract Movement, the club was able to enhance its image followed by a good reputation, attracting the community to join the club. Life as a President of its 50th Anniversary of Rotaract Sri Lanka has completely been transformative and tremendous. Most importantly, being the DRR Home Club for the Rotary Year 2020-21, a strong leadership was groomed and built, where President Rtr. Oshadie Wedarachchi and her committee would definitely take the club to even greater heights under a “strategic plan”, while strengthening the movement under the leadership of DRR Rtr. PP. Kasun Sigera. I take this opportunity to extend my heartiest gratitude towards our own Rotary Club of Kelaniya headed by President Rtn. Sakuna Jayasuriya, Rotaract District Steering Committee 2019-20 headed by DRR Rtr. PP. Krishan Balaji along with Guide Club Director Rtr. Anjana Gajanayake and all the Past Presidents of the Club for the consistent and untiring guidance and support provided to complete yet another successful Year of Rotaract. Not to forget my very own Committee and Members, without whom the club would not have existed, and much significantly our parents who tolerated and facilitated all our activities. Viva la Rotary, Rotaract and Interact! Rtr. Ranga Samarakoon President 2019-20 Annual Report 2019/20 5

He is known to be sincere and genuine in his efforts and has ensured that his members rallied around the club’s leadership. A job well done by Rtr. Ranga and his team. One of the key things that happened this year is the reunion of past members of the club. RCK marks 20 years of progress of the movement in Sri Lanka. The club has produced some outstanding Rotaractors, who have through the years carried out much needed quality projects in the spirit of Fellowship through Service” One of the great privileges of Rotaract is fellowship and mutual confidence it inspires. Due to the increase in work commitments, I was not able to fully participate in all Rotaract projects. However, the club was flexible enough to accommodate me and also provide a platform for me to share my knowledge and experience in 2 professional development projects. THE ROTARACT CLUB OF KELANIYA Club Service Year Plan Club Service Year Plan Beginning of the year the club decided to have four Club Service Projects and managed to Complete 8 Club projects. What we decided to do Planned Month Project Name July - 2019 Joint Installation August - 2019 Club T-Shirt November - 2019 Game On February - 2020 District Council Meeting Club Trip December - 2019, April - 2020 Guide Club Coordinator Suggestions Club Service  To achieve district citations a club needs to do 4 club service projects.  At least one meeting with the rotary club  At least one meeting once a month  Induct minimum of 5 new members As for the annual plan shared with me:  Joint Installation with RAC Ja Ela - Kandana: August 3rd  DCM- Feb with Battaramulla and University Alumni  Monthly internal membership development projects  T-Shirt: Try printing the T-shirt in pink this can give a massive bump for the club in case of PR.  Green Meetings: So unlike last year, this year you only need to do one mandatory meeting for a month in order to gain citations. Try to absorb the concept of green meetings for the meeting other than the mandatory general meeting and the board meeting. This is a very basic concept of having a meeting at an open area where you don‟t need to use any electricity. One loophole is we have to figure out the way of doing formalities. Ex: If you can have an under the trees meeting at viharamahadevi park or at a very calm and quiet private place, maybe even a garden of a club member‟s home that will be good for finances and the internal club relations. And you can take it to another level if you can calculate the average cost for a traditional general meeting and save that amount by having green meetings and through that if you can develop a way of investing that money to do a project for a school with needs that will be awesome. 42 Annual Report 2019/20
