When it reaches the coast, the momentum of the Tsunami may cause it to be 10 to 30 metres higher than regular waves - as high as an eight-storey building - with more than 100 kilometres wave length (while regular waves are only 100 to 150 metres long). In historical records tsunami have been described in Hawaii, which were 350 metres in height and moved at a speed of 400 kilometres per hour, breaking along 10 miles of coast. So extreme were the damage to houses and the lamentation of the survivors in many places, that it was hard for the rescue teams not to feel the sorrow, for the people they were trying to help too. Bus cavalcades of more than one thousand five-hundred monks arrived at the ceremony area.
