AUDUBON’S AMERICA Home About Birds Purchase AUDUBON’S AMERICA AUDUBON’S AMERICA The Narratives & Experiences of John James Audubon. AUDUBON’S AMERICA by Donald Culross Peattie John James Audubon (1785-1851) was not the first person to attempt to paint and describe all the birds of America, but for half a century he was the young country’s dominant wildlife artist. His seminal Birds of America, a collection of 435 life-size prints, quickly eclipsed Wilson’s work and is still the standard against which 20th and 21st century bird artists are measured. “A brilliant achievement.” — The New York Times Home About Birds Purchase About Audubon’s America Experience John J. Audubon’s travels through America with a collection of his writings and paintings on what he saw and encountered and see America through his eyes. In the early 1800s Audubon embarked on an ambitious journey, around a largely unknown North America; his aim was to paint all of the continent’s birds. While he didn’t get every species, Audubon studied and painted a majority of the country’s birds, bringing new understanding to science and layperson alike. This large, hardcover book includes 63 full-color reproductions of the original watercolors created for Birds of America; lovingly reproduced on quality paper. An introduction from botanist, naturalist, and author Donald Culross Peattie provides history and insight into Audubon’s life. “While there are quite a few books out there covering the subject, this is by far one of the most beautiful and engaging. An absolute delight!” — New York Historical Society Hardcover: 80 pages Language: English Dimensions: 8 x 10 inches 137 Brown Pelican Home About Birds Purchase Pelecanus fuscus Plate 251 Red Phalarope My first drawing of the red phalarope was made at Louisville in Kentucky, a few weeks after my removal to that place, in 1808. One afternoon, I observed a large flock of birds proceeding along the shores of the Ohio. I had never until then seen a phalarope of any kind, although I had inspected some shocking figures of these elegant birds, figures so unlike the originals that even with the aid of a name printed beneath, you could not recognise them. It was then and there that I made my first drawing of the red phalarope. Habitat Ocean; tundra in summer. UNLEASH YOUR 141 INNER CYCLIST My task was to find a local company that had a poorly designed website and redesign it based on UI/UX best practices. Completed RedNewt Bikes is a locally-owned bicycle sales and Spring 2019 repair shop. I took inspiration from the logo — which I manipulated slightly to make it cleaner — and used the reddish orange color of the red newt as a high- light color throughout the website. I wanted it to be present, but not overpowering, so the rest of the site uses simple grays, allowing the imagery to stand out from from the other elements. A simple grid gives the site structure and allows the design to fluidly transition to mobile. Disciplines UI Design UX Design Responsive Design Kind of Project Website Design UI Design 06
