Keywords STRUCTURAL Structured Precise PRECISION Reserved Hi, I’m Jacob, a graphic designer living in Virginia but I call Wyoming my home. I recently graduated with a Masters of Fine Art from the Academy of Art University to become a professor. I believe that a big part of design is in the details and tend to focus on precision. I started my path early on towards being an architect, and I have found that my love of structure has followed me over to design. In both fields, the bones underneath the project are vital to a successful final product. There are times, however, when you want to break out of the confines of rigid alignments, showing moments of chaos amid more reserved parts can add a dramatic flair at just the right moment.



BRING YOUR HISTORY TO LIFE 01 I was tasked with researching potential issues that could be solved in some way by graphic design and contained several deliverables. Completed The American Historical Association stated that, Spring 2018 “History helps provide identity.” Many people don’t consider history to be important because they don’t understand how it helps define their values and beliefs. Pastfinder is a fictitious company that promotes learning history through an individual’s personal connection to historical events through their ancestry. The main visual idea was a superim- posed image inside of a person in profile view, giving the idea of a connection to the past. WHY WE ONCE 23 FEARED THE DARK My challenge was to create a ficticious film festival around a director of my choosing and to design the elements for that festival using a visual system. Completed Guillermo del Toro is widely known for fantasy films Fall 2019 that feature a monster who isn’t the antagonist and a person who is more monster than human. These are often shown in moody, Victorianesque settings. designing his festival, Lucid Nightmare, I used tex- tures from a nearby cemetary to create a unique look for all of the imagery. The physical items took on an almost steampunk aesthetic — much like del Toro’s films. The colors took inspiration from the director, using muted reds, yellows, and blues.
