The Polish students staged The Dragon of Krakow .. The fruits of collaboration …..To bring the story alive, selected folk tales were to be staged by both the partner countries during the Indo- Polish Exchange in the month of November 2017 DPS students of class Viii showcased their story The Bear In The Forest Hut.The Polish students also staged the story of “Queen Jadwiga And The Brick Layer “ for thestudents of DPS in the class room and the auditorium The story was staged on the dragon in Krakow seen in the photograph

Doll making workshop Dolls have a story to tell…Dolls are representative of a nation and are the confluence of itsdifferent ages, time and culture. Doll making workshop with the Polish sudents STEP 1 Planning… An itinerary for the Polish students was planned from 21st November to 2nd December 2017 with different activities and trips . The art classes which included clay , pottery and printing activities were scheduled on designated dates for an hour each on 22nd Nov , 24th Nov , 28th Nov , &1st Dec 2017.

STEP 2Introduction to the medium (clay and Potters wheel)Doll making was a project with the Polish students during theIndo-Polish Cultural Exchange Programme.The students were introduced to the potters wheel where thebasic structure of the doll was created. STEP 3 Creativity at work Once the basic structure was ready the students worked on the upper torso by applying clay to create a proper shape of the doll.

Students were engrossed in the activity, thus enjoying as well as portrayingtheir creative skills to the fullest!

STEP 4 Giving the finishing touches … The Polish students enjoyed every aspect of the activity. The colours used, the clothes worn ( Sarees and Dhoti ) were as per the students understanding of the Indian culture . Many dolls had long black hair, bangles and bindi on the forehead . Students of Class VIII DPS Gurgaon also learnt to use clay to model characters from the folktales read by them The students made dinosaurs and animal characters from folk stories that they had read

Some Polish students also made dolls as found in East Europe – Matryoshka Nesting DollsDolls and artifacts displayed duringthe Indo Polish exhibition. Learning Outcome  Motor Skills enhanced  Developed art appreciation through clay medium

Teacher’s ReportValues are most often caught and not Taught!“Folkstrokes” a collaborative activity between India and Poland helped students ofboth the countries delve into the traditional believes and customs and stories ofcommunities which has been passed on through generations. The world we live intoday demands all its citizens to adopt the idea of “Think Global Act Local.”.Throgh this project students learnt how to value and respect other culture, alongwith exploring new dimensions of their own culture. These activities not onlysharpen a students artistic abilities but also get them one step closer towards a globalcommunity.It was an enriching experience for teachers as well as the students during themaking of the story board.. It was a visual treat to see the stories come alive onpaper and stage. This gave students a clear understanding of how the past is stillrelevant in the present times.It was interesting to see the Polish students make clay dolls. The potters wheel andthe use of clay was a new medium for them and thus there was a great excitement.The Polish students acquired information from they host parents ,with reference tothe clothes and the embellishment for the dolls. There was a keen desire to use theright colours, exact clothes worn and the embellishments used. Thus showing awillingness to understand and appreciate the nuances of different cultures. MATTER MATTERSTo celebrate World Mental Health day, Delhi Public School, Gurgaon organized „MatterMatters‟, an ISA event on the 11th of October‟17.Various activities were organized with the aim of creating awareness about the importanceof mental health and gain an in-depth understanding of the adolescent issues that impactmental health.Students from various classes participated in well-chosen activities that were spreadacross a week. Activities included- bookmark making, inter-house poster makingcompetition, radio show and a panel discussion which was followed by a quiz and anessay writing activity. Panel DiscussionPsychology students of class 11th were divided into four groups and each groupwas allotted one country. For the purpose of this activity, adolescent issuesimpacting mental health in four countries i.e India, Syria, North Korea andUSA were covered.The students researched on various issues prevalent in the respective countriesgiven to them. The esteemed panelists were: • Ms. Mimansa Singh, Clinical Psychologist, Fortis Hospital, Gurgaon. • Dr. Namrata Mahajan, Special Educator, Fortis Hospital, Gurgaon & also a school counselor at DPS, Gurgaon. • Ms. Kashika Dabra, Middle school counselor at DPS, Gurgaon. • Parents of the student panelists were also invited for the event.The event started with the enactment of a self-composed poem titled “MeraMann” by the students of class 11th.Panel discussion began with power point presentations of the four countries bythe respective groups. Following the presentation, a discussion round was heldby Ms. Mimansa Singh for the student panelists and the audience.Poignant photographs screened after the Panel Discussion futher set the tone ofmental health awareness.The event was concluded with a short video on „Mental Health Awareness‟. Postthe panel discussion, student, parent and the visitor forms were distributed.
