SACRED HEART SCHOOL BAHRAIN WISHES OUR BELOVED LEADERSHIP ALL THE LOVE AND LOYALITY

From the Principal's desk \"Difficulty is a breeding ground for positivity and possibility,” says Robin Sharma, which has been very true during this unpredictable time of our Academic Year 2020-2021. The second edition of the E-magazine is proof of this. This magazine is filled with the extraordinary achievements of this challenging year. It is rightly said, Education is an inoculation against disruption. When I look back to the year 2020-2021, it makes me look up to God with gratitude for the magnificent way He blessed us with determination, the spirit of hard work, the ability to face the challenges and to overcome our fears and do our best for the sake of our pupils who come to this haven of Education. It is indeed our clear goal and a broader vision that helped us organize, direct and harness the infinite powers of the mind of our students. Through their hard work, the students have shown that the key to fulfilling their destiny lies in recognizing that they are the only ones who can do it! My hearty congratulation to all those who played an active part in the activities and SR. ROSELYN THOMAS A.C. competitions of this year, as well as to all the winners of various events. PRINCIPAL Once more I congratulate the entire Editorial team for their hard work and dedication for bringing into reality the second edition of the E-magazine.

From the Vice Principal's desk “If plan ‘Á’did not work, the alphabet has 25 more letters”. This was the attitude of our teachers as they initially embraced the Academic Year 2020-2021. This Pandemic overturned the learning ambience. We even came across many WhatsApp mocking messages, like ‘Then: Don’t bring a mobile phone to school, you will be suspended. Now: The school is conducting lessons on a Mobile phone.’ At this juncture, ‘how to handle this situation?’ was the only question that tarried in all the educationist’s minds. The Online Classes gave a solution to it, but also became a challenge to many of us. Extra-Curricular Activities provide an outlet for curiosity, information about the physical world, a safe way to deal with anxiety and social relationships. In the long run, it serves children’s inner needs, hopes and aspirations. But, Extra-Curricular Activities!! Can they be realized virtually? -was the next challenge that shook everyone. The most valuable resource that all teachers have is each other. Without collaboration, our growth is limited to our own perspectives. Keeping this in mind, our teachers worked as a team to realize all the activities in school during this year of isolation. I like to salute our SHS teachers for their tremendous effort to learn the methods and the way to execute them. We will witness the result of their hard work in the second E-magazine, which will bring to light all the activities accomplished in School on the Virtual platform. My hope for the students is that they should avail themselves, the opportunity to figure out who they are before anyone else has the chance to decide their identity for them. I am happy that this opportunity is provided in SHS and the students are encouraged to manifest their talents in different fields and create their identity by themselves. ‘The Best Teachers are those who show you where to look, but don’t tell you what to see.’ Such a band of Teachers along with the Management create an ambience for learning that suit the needs of all students. I treasure this occasion to express my wishes and congratulations to all Teachers in SHS and pray that their hard work should be governed not by the desire to make the children learn things, but strive always to keep burning within them the light which is called Wisdom. Best Wishes to all. Sr. Jacintha Maria Varghese Vice-Principal.

from the editor's desk Hearty Congratulations to our dearest Principal, Sister Roselyn Thomas, Vice-Principal, Sister Jacintha, Sisters, Teachers, Parents and my dear students on the publication of this E-magazine. Despite the Covid-19 Pandemic, the contributions from our staff and students were remarkable. This provided tangible testimony to the students’ resilience and competence to cope with even greater than normal pressure. My sincere appreciation to everyone who submitted articles covering an interesting range of subjects, and to the IT Department and Editorial Team for their stupendous work! The 2nd issue of the SHS. E-magazine has been dedicated to activities, competitions, webinars, workshops, Empowerment Sessions, special assemblies, class assemblies etc. to give all our readers a glimpse of what has been going on inside our classrooms. As you go through, you will realize the tremendous potential of our staff and students and their ability to accomplish great tasks. I am sure the imaginative, reflective and creative work presented in this issue will be a feast for you and show you how Sacred Heart School has progressed to establish itself firmly as one of the reputed Institutions of Education on the island. May God be praised for all the blessings He has bestowed on our Alma Mater. Mrs. Selma Mendonca Chief Editor

BEAUTIFUL WORDS OF WISDOM. MRS. FATIMA AFZAL DHARWADKAR A WISE MAN ADVISING HIS SON SAID: ‘SON MAKE SURE YOU NEVER FORGET TO DO THESE THREE THINGS:’ 1) – TO EAT THE BEST FOOD 2) – TO SLEEP ON THE MOST COMFORTABLE BED 3) – TO RESIDE IN THE BEST OF HOMES HIS SON REPLIED: ‘YOU KNOW WE ARE POOR, HOW CAN I DO THAT?’ THE FATHER REPLIED: 1) ‘IF YOU ONLY EAT WHEN YOU ARE TRULY HUNGRY, YOU WILL BE EATING THE MOST DELICIOUS FOOD.’ 2) ‘IF YOU WORK HARD, HONESTLY AND SINCERELY, AND GO TO SLEEP TIRED, YOU WILL SLEEP ON THE MOST COMFORTABLE BED.’ 3) ‘IF YOU ARE COURTEOUS TO PEOPLE, TREAT THEM WITH DIGNITY AND RESPECT, YOU WILL RESIDE IN THEIR HEARTS, THAT IS THE BEST RESIDENCE OF ALL.’ ‘WORDS WORTH REFLECTING!’

A NOSTALGIC GLIMPSE INTO MY PANDORA BOX..............………. 12 years! As I sipped my favourite brew and wondered what to pen for my dear students, I found myself slipping back in time and reminiscing on the wonders and gaffes of this twelve-year journey. Memories flooded in, but like the soft sand, they trickled through my fingers leaving behind a powerful handful. One thing that is omniscient is the knowledge that has made me the teacher I am today. A bewildering sea of blue and white greeted me on my first day, as I stepped through the gates of Home. Home! Yes, that is what Sacred Heart will always be, a second Home to teachers and students. I was new, you were new, all those dozen years ago, but the love and acceptance was there. I quickly donned that precious mantle of “teacher” and embarked on this amazing sojourn. Sunshine and rain didn’t keep us away from that morning scramble of Assembly. Recollecting those snake-like queues meandering towards the classroom with many of you trying to dilly dally on the way, talking to a teacher, while, we teachers, race ahead in our minds to the next task on the agenda. I wonder sometimes, how we did it, keep a calm face while our feet felt like dancing with impatience. Then, a recollection of life’s lesson: slow down and smell the roses, you dear kids are those roses. That morning interaction albeit time, consuming one, makes us realize how precious you young ones are to us. The fun of Fun Day flashed through my mind as I delved deeper. Let me tell you a secret, the joys of Fun Day is not just THE DAY but the 2 weeks beforehand. Oh, those fifteen days of rush, collecting gifts, building those impossible games, and running helter-skelter to gather and keep ready everything, and amidst all of this, the rise of the green horned giant, if another class has copied our game. Sorting out the inevitable fights and complaints, which today, as I am reminiscing, seems so trivial and brings a smile. I am beaming now thinking about it, and itching to get back at it like you all are.

A NOSTALGIC GLIMPSE INTO MY PANDORA BOX..............………. Looking back, I pause, as I wonder, where did this passion to teach come from? The simple answer, YOU, dear students, your curiosity, vitality and passion has definitely rubbed off. I recollect Biology classes where we watched over a sunflower being pollinated for almost an hour to baking bread in the Lab. YES! My Bio students, we have done this! The highlight being watching you awestruck on extracting DNA successfully. A successful class makes a happy teacher, and I am right now in a very happy state of mind. How can I board up the flood gates of memories without recollecting Sports Day? Rain or sand, we were there, in full throttle, roaring to go. Remembering an especially brutal sandstorm where right from the Olympic torch to the house arches, everything was blown away, but not our spirits. Today, I am amazed, how we carried on and defeated the storm. As I sip my tea, I laugh over the frantic tensions of yesterday, of getting costumes stitched and props ready. One thing though, house colours extremely important! As we reach towards the closure of another year, I itch to get back into the school bus and hear your entertaining chatter on every topic under the sun. The journey from school to home was never tedious however tiring the day was. One thing I can surely say, the Pandora box is bursting at the seams and needs extra Trillion bytes to store all these precious memories. Placing my mug down, I ask myself, what will the next 12 years bring? Mrs. Jyoti Rao
