We have handled the MS67, we can unhesitatingly tell you it is so darn close to FULL MS67! If we had to grade it, we call it a MS66.9+! Amazing surfaces remind us more of an 1882-S then a 92-O. We assure you, this is one of the cleanest 1892-O’s you will ever see. A strong luster glows from all over. The reverse has a ring of pale original reddish gold. There is a small toning dot in the A of America on the reverse. Both sides are an even and totally original creamy white color. Miss Liberty and the details are fully struck and have light frost. There are no records for a PCGS MS66+ BN having been sold in auction, and there is enough of a glowing red color that would justify us including coins in the RB designation in our pricing data. The Adams, Halpern, Martin Logies, Jim O’Neal PCGS MS66 BN CAC sold in April 2014 for $117,625 and the Naftzger-Pogue PCGS MS66 RB sold for $211,500 in March 2017. Today, in MS66+ BN, the Collector’s Universe value is listed at $225,000. Where this impressive SUPERB GEM hammers at will be determined by the collectors who battle it out to the end. With its amazing look, high end quality, and excellent pedigree, there is no doubt we will see fierce bidding and a very strong price realized. Bound for a great early type set or a WORLD CLASS cabinet of early copper. Good luck! PCGS# 901374 | ESTIMATE: $200,000+ 89
THE SOUTH TEXAS COLLECTION LOT 175 L1C 1797 REV. OF 97, STEMS. PCGS MS65 BN CAC90
THE SOUTH TEXAS COLLECTION LOT 175 L1C 1797 REV. OF 97, STEMS. PCGS MS65 BN CAC An exciting, original GEM from the famed Nichols Hoard. One of the finest certified examples, it is one of the top dozen graded at PCGS in the BN designation. It boggles our minds how this coin has survived so pristine over 221 years! Glossy luster graces both sides of this GEM. The surfaces are smooth and free of any distractions in the fields. The surfaces show off a delicate iridescent sheen thatcan be seen when rotated in a light, giving the presently offered coin a great look. The colors and high end surfaces contrast nicely against the sharply struck design elements. Ms. Liberty’s hair curls and drapery are fully defined on the obverse, and the wreath is boldly defined on the reverse. Much original red luster clings to the recesses of the dentils on both sides. The eye appeal is spectacular, as should be expected for a PCGS/CAC MS65. PCGS 9, NGC 1, CAC 4. This coin has been off the market for nearly a decade. The current PCGS price is $31,500 and the most recent PCGS MS65 BN to sell in a major sale was NOT CAC, realizing $28,800 in November 2017. With its bold eye appeal and high end condition, it will entice strong bidding from specialists. No doubt there will be lots of action on this GEM! PCGS# 1422 | ESTIMATE: $26,000+ 91
THE SOUTH TEXAS COLLECTION LOT 176 H10C 1792 PCGS XF40 CAC92
THE SOUTH TEXAS COLLECTION LOT 176 H10C 1792 PCGS XF40 CAC Ex Col. Green and Eric Newman Collections. Legend Rare Coin Auctions is pleased to present one of the most historically significant issues in early U.S. coinage with one of the most significant pedigrees--what a package! Many pages have been written over the years about the historical nature of the 1792 half disme. Over the years it has attained a mythical stature in the chronicles of American numismatic history, making it one of the most desirable coins. Directly linked to such founding luminaries as George Washington, Alexander Hamilton, Thomas Jefferson, and David Rittenhouse, holding a 1792 half disme in ANY GRADE is a portal back to those early days, shortly after the April 1792 Act of Congress that established a federal mint at Philadelphia, and struck before the first buildings were even completed. The legend is that the Washingtons personally contributed their household silver to be refined and struck into the planchets, although that myth has been generally debunked, but still provides an excellent story to tell. About 1,500 half dismes were struck in John Harper’s cellar. The entire emission was delivered to Thomas Jefferson, who as Secretary of State oversaw the mint, and he delivered them to George Washington at Mount Vernon on his way to Montecello. The Colonel E.H.R. Green- Eric P. Newman coin is the “PERFECT” collector grade half disme. Many of the known examples (about 150 or so examples) have significant problems such as heavy scratches, holes, environmental damage, or otherproblems that preclude numerical grading), or are much lower grade, clearly these did circulate as George Washington notedin his 4th address to Congress, where he stated, “There has been a small beginning in the coinage of half dismes: the want of small coins in circulation calling the first attention to them.” The even wear is generally problem free and the pewter-dove patina is rich and original with some deeper blue-slate patina clinging to the obverse legends. There are a few ancient scrapes noted but can be overlooked in the context of the great eye appeal the present “GEM” XF possesses. PCGS 5, NGC 5, CAC 3. This coin’s pedigree prior to Col. Green is unknown; however it was part of the Green Estatepurchased by Burdette Johnson and Eric Newman (who paid $125). This coin had been retained by the Newman NumismaticEducational Society (EPNNES) as part of a type set, then consigned and sold in November 2017, where as an NGC/CAC coin it sold for $132,000. This coin has a lot to offer the collector. It is a major numismatic rarity, ranking among the top 20 in the top 100 U.S. coins compiled by Jeff Garrett. It’s historical significance as the first regular issue coin struck under the auspicesof the Mint Act of April 1792 that established the U.S. Mint. It’s provenance is famous and impressive. Bringing it all together, this is one of the most important rare coins we have had the pleasure of offering! A world class coin that will excite strong bidding! PCGS# 11020 | ESTIMATE: $115,000+ 93
THE SOUTH TEXAS COLLECTION LOT 177 H10C 1795 PCGS MS64 CAC Lovely! Very eye appealing and beautiful, this near-GEM LM-8 is housed in an OGH. Bluntly struck on both sides, typical of the date, with some hints of weakness in areas. A light satiny luster blooms on both sides in the silken smooth fields. A pearly lustrous surface accents the icy blue and lilac accents that blend with the antique golden toning. Very original. PCGS 26, NGC 35, CAC 10. The most recent one to sell was the Gardner LM-10 which sold for a very strong $36,425. Prior to that one, this coin realized $22,325 in February 2014. The current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $27,000. This is a great early half dime for any type or date collector, and worthy of a serious bid from the serious collector! Good luck. THE SOUTH TEXAS COLLECTION LOT 179 10C 1796 PCGS AU58+ CAC ALWAYS a popular date, the first year of the denomination struck, and highly sought after in all grades. Usually seen either in low grade or with problems, the present AU58+ has a great look and offers a lot of coin for the money. There is a distinctive “flash” in the fields, with a neat semi-reflective luster, on both sides. A delicate teal, olive, gold, and blue iridescent toning frames the devices, giving it a nearly cameo look. The Robert Scot’s design elements are nicely struck up. A close inspection with a powerful glass does reveal a few, tiny stray marks hidden by the outstanding, original luster. What a great example of this “Blue Chip” rare coin! Easily identified as a JR-1 thanks to the die cud at Star 1. PCGS 25, NGC 30, CAC 6. This is the ONLY AU58+ graded at either service. This coin has not appeared in auction as an AU58+. Only a single PCGS AU58 approved by CAC has ever sold in auction, a JR-4 that sold for $27,600 in the 2012 ANA auction. A PCGS MS61(no CAC) sold in March 2018 for $39,600. The current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $21,250 and we expect that this GEM AU will sell for that, or more! A real prize for anyone working on an early dime or type set! Worthy of a strong bid! PCGS# 4461 | ESTIMATE: $21,000+96
THE SOUTH TEXAS COLLECTIONLOT 18010C 1798/7 16 STARS REVERSE. PCGS MS63 CACA very pleasing, super high end example of this earlydime overdate. RARE in Mint State, PCGS estimatesperhaps 25 examples exist in all MS grades. Clearly thepopulation figures include duplication.A rich underlying luster shines under a powder blueand lilac patination. Boldly impressed devices show offfull details of Robert Scot’s Draped Bust, Large Eagledesign. A few teeny marks are noted for the sake of fulldisclosure, but none of these detract from the excellenteye appeal.PCGS 7, NGC 10, CAC 3. The most recentPCGS-graded coin sold over nine years ago-- a clearsign as to how often these are offered. The currentPCGS Price Guide value is listed at $22,000 and whenthis coin crosses the auction block we think that levelwill be bypassed immediately. A rare early dime with agreat look, bound for an advanced cabinet ofearly dimes.PCGS# 4468 | ESTIMATE: $25,000+ 97
