Keep in mind that a coin could be either low or high end for the grade, have stunning color or be dull, all of which radically affect a coin’s value. Yes, there can be huge price differences within a grade, and we offer estimates as a guide so Collector’s can have a better idea of value. One thing we will never do is offer low ball estimates in order to claim stronger sales. These published estimates represent what Legend Rare Coin Auctions determines to be an approximate high wholesale value for the coin. The numbers are based upon current market values, similar trades, auction prices, published prices, and a consideration of the coin’s quality. There is no guarantee that the estimated prices are minimums or are exactly what you can expect to get if you attempt to resell them wholesale. We always advise you to view the coins you are interested in and calculate what you’ll pay using as much information as possible. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask us. We are here to help you!

Laura Sperber PRINCIPALS Partner Laura was raised in Highland Park, NJ. During high school, the coin bug hit her hard. Her trip to the 1976 Bruce Morelan NYC ANA left a lasting mark and huge desire for her to own and handle the greatest rarities. While attending Partner Monmouth University, Laura attended coin shows more than classes. After college, she started LSS RCI, a wholesale coin company. In 1986, she realized the need for a “better” coin retailer and teamed up in 1986 Julie Abrams with George Huang to form Legend Numismatics. President In 1996 Bruce Morelan became a partner and since then Legend has exclusively built or assisted in assembling this generation’s greatest collections. In 2012 Laura saw the need for a smaller, boutique auction firm, and created Legend-Morphy with Dan Morphy, whom she split with in 2014. Today, Laura is also a leading consumer advocate for coins. The passion has never subsided, and she keeps a beautiful Proof Walker on her desk to this day. Bruce started collecting coins when he was only six years old and by the time he was in high school his dream was to be a coin dealer. But life intervened and instead, Bruce went into business. By chance, he became Legend Numismatics’ financial backer in 1996. His great grandmother had given him three coins when he was young, one of which being a Trade Dollar, so he set out to build the finest Trade Dollar set. After a few years with ultra rarities, Bruce returned to his love of dollars and completed both a set of Gobrechts and a set of Seated Dollars. After selling those sets, Bruce recently returned to dollars with a new Gobrecht set and a spectacular early dollar set capped by his dream coin, the Amon Carter 1794 Dollar. Not many collector’s can say they have completed not only the finest 1794-1885 Dollar Sets and have over the years owned such coins as two 1913 Liberty Head Nickels, an 1894-S Dime, 1876-CC Twenty Cent piece, 1827 Original and Restrike Quarters, 1838-O Half Dollar, two 1885 Trade Dollars and four 1884 Trade Dollars! Julie Abrams started in numismatics in 1986 when she joined up with Bernard Rome and launched Teletrade, the first computerized auction company. Teletrade developed a unique coin trading method, utilizing state-of- the-art digitized voice board technology to run live auctions before the advent of the internet. As President of Teletrade, Julie helped expand the company, increasing the frequency of auctions and expanding annual sales to $24 million within a few years. In 1999, GMAI, a publicly traded company, purchased Teletrade and Ms. Abrams became Executive Vice President of Sales for the parent company. Her job responsibilities included continuing her role as CEO for Teletrade as well as marketing to buyers and consignors, with the goal of maintaining a balance between inventory and sales while growing the business. In 2004 she joined Stacks-Bowers, an old world traditional auction house where she worked to expand their e-commerce presence, including the development of an online bidding platform for the firm. She also marketed Stacks’ programs to secure consignments from dealers and institutions such as banks, museums and universities. Julie is a member of the American Numismatic Association, the Central States Numismatic Association and Florida United Numismatists. When a 1942 stops him in his tracks it has to be beyond anything the imagination can conjure! Really this coin is absolutely one of the most spectacularly toned SUPERB GEMS of any date! Plus, the quality of this coin is mind blowing. First off, the surfaces are PRISTINE and are the epitome of perfection! A beaming luster blazes its way on the smooth defect free surfaces. Sharply struck devices are truly a delight to behold. However what sets this SUPERB GEM apart is the amazing obverse toning! A brilliant swath of original magenta, tangerine, and bright yellow gold frames the right side of the obverse, making the silver frosted devices of the striding Liberty stand out wonderfully with a stunning effect. We rank the colors a 9+ on our 1-10 color scale (10 is the best). The eye appeal is incredible! PCGS 5, NGC 4, CAC 3. No CAC approved MS68 has ever sold in auction. LOT 51 50C 1938-S BOONE. PCGS MS68 CAC LRCA is proud to offer this pristine, high end, and exemplary quality SUPERB GEM 38-S Boone. Of the 2,100 minted, this one is one of just four graded MS68 with just a single MS68+ graded higher. While the mintage was low, clearly contemporary collectors respected the low mintage, saving them for posterity. Today, it is more available in MS66 and lower grades than the mintage would suggest. In MS67 this date becomes very scarce, and is extremely RARE in this coin’s lofty state of preservation. Gloriously smooth and clean surfaces have a glowing satin sheen that blooms all over. LOT 67 1/2C 1808 PCGS MS64+ BN CAC C-3, B-3. This is an AMAZING example of this EXTREMELY difficult final year of the series. Tied with the Missouri Cabinet--D. Brent Pogue Collection coin for FINEST graded at PCGS, this exquisite, CHOICE Draped Bust half cent is the PCGS CoinFacts Plate coin. Bold, satin frost glows brilliantly on both sides. A swirling cartwheel can be seen on the rich chocolate brown surfaces. Steely blue and light olive accents appear when rotated in a light. Well struck from the typically seen dies state (Breen II, Manley 2.0) showing light die rust on the obverse field and nearly full dentils on both sides. The date was initially punched in the working die as “180” and the 8 is actually 2 “0”s punched on top of each other. Adding to the intrigue of this GEM is the rotated reverse, which is struck in essentially medal turn, 180 degrees from its proper coin turn position. Just a few tiny ticks are seen with the aid of a strong glass, none of which detract from the outstanding eye appeal of this incredible Mint State example. There were three die marriages of 1808 half cents struck, C-3, B-3 is the only non-overdate example, and is considered to be quite common, HOWEVER, in Mint State, PCGS and NGC have graded just 16 pieces in all grades, with exactly ZERO graded in the RB or RD categories. LOT 68 1/2C 1835 PCGS MS64 RD CAC It is always a marvel to see early U.S. copper coins that survive with full original mint red color. This C-1, B-1 is a borderline GEM with a bold fiery mint red color and strong, rolling cartwheel luster. Sharply struck from Die State II with a single clash mark seen under the bust. The star centers, dentils, hair details, and leaves are all sharply struck up. A strong glass reveals some minor toning flecks that is common to Classic Head half cents, even in full RED. This lovely coin likely originated in the Elmer Sears hoard, which Walter Breen notes contained “at least a back of a thousand spotty mint red examples,” that was discovered in the mid 1930s. Today, the populations show much less than that number in RB and RD graded, suggesting that this was another numismatic legend that adds color to our great hobby. PCGS 35, NGC 9, CAC 11. The most recent example to sell in auction realized $4,320 in the 2018 ANA auction. Prior to that, the Gardner coin sold for $4,994. The current PCGS Price Guide is $4,000, but this CAC-approved near-GEM should bring more. Just seven coins are graded finer, and no CAC approved MS65 RD has ever sold, and if you could find the single example, it would likely cost in excess of $20,000. Perfect for type or date purposes, and a coin that will delight even the pickiest EAC collector. While considered to be the most available date in RED, GEMs, especially those approved by CAC are quite RARE. This is NOT your typical faded stained red coin. Full red, blazing luster radiates on both sides. Sharply struck up from a later state of the dies, with crumbling rims on the lower obverse. Aside from a single ancient fleck, this GEM has very clean surfaces and exceptional eye appeal. Housed in an old green tag holder, this coin is Premium Quality defined! PCGS 39, NGC 12, CAC 7. First, we think there is duplication on the population report, with a few examples being resubmitted for a “+”. This is shown by the fact only four are graded 65+ RD and NONE FINER! The only CAC-approved MS65 RD example was the Gardner coin, which brought $16,450. Essentially in a class by itself, we would not be shocked if this coin broke into the five figures when the hammer drops. PCGS# 1235 | ESTIMATE: $7,000+ LOT 70 L1C 1840 LARGE DATE. PCGS MS65+ BN CAC This is an exceptional GEM N-6, one of the FINEST examples and from a late die state that has three very clear cuds on the rim below star 13. VERY RARE in this die state with the cuds, this is the FINEST known of the die state. PCGS 20, NGC 13, CAC 12. There are five in MS65+ BN for all Large Date Newcomb numbers. The most recent example to sell was the ex. Twin Leaf collection coin that was from an earlier, more common die state and sold for nearly $5,000 in its initial appearance in July 2015. LOT 71 L1C 1840 N-9. LARGE DATE. PCGS MS65+ BN CAC The N-3 is a scarce R-3 variety and this GEM was struck from Noyes Die State D/C with a sharp, bisecting die crack from Star 4 to Star 11, crossing through Liberty’s eyelid, and ear. It is amazing to think that with the hundreds of die varieties of Large cents, struck 1793 to 1857, only three have full bisecting cracks: 1793 S-14, 1839 N-1, and this 1840 N-9. Impeccable surfaces show just a few tiny ticks seen only with the aid of a strong glass, otherwise it is very smooth and high end quality for the grade. A glossy even brown patina shows a lovely satin sheen and some traces of very faded rose color can be found in the protected areas. A tiny cud is noted under 18 in the date and shows again how broken the obverse die was when this GEM was struck. Boasting a great provenance, ex: Anderson-Dupont Collection, Stack’s September 1954, lot 812; Wayne Slife; Lester Merkin’s October 1972 Auction, lot 636; Garry Fitzgerald; Del Bland, January 1973; Jerry Bobbe, May 1974; Robison S. This is AMONG the FINEST KNOWN, and as the sole MS66 RB with CAC approval, it is arguably the finest. Bold mint red color surrounds the stars and peripheries and covers about 85-90% of the reverse. Sharply struck from dies that show mint made die lines throughout around the date, stars, and portrait. There is a subtle overtone of steely-teal on the mellow chocolate brown. The eye appeal is off the charts! Finer than the Naftzger -Pogue MS65 RB, this is a true prize for anyone pursuing the very finest in Braided Hair large cents. PCGS 2, NGC 4, CAC 1. A coin like this comes around so rarely that the Price Guide values fail to keep up. The Pogue coin realized $10,200 when it was re-offered in the 2019 ANA auction (not CAC). This boldly struck 1857 Flying Eagle cent has thick, frosty mirrors that contrast with the semi-reflective, highly lustrous surfaces. A couple of scattered ticks are noted for accuracy, but there are none that are singularly distracting. Some die cracks add to the visual character of this GEM. There are 27 graded in MS65+ at PCGS and just 27 graded finer. The most recent example to sell in auction was a monster toned example that brought $18,213 in our May 2019 Regency Auction. PCGS# 2016 | ESTIMATE: $6,000+ LOT 74 1C 1857 FLYING EAGLE. PCGS MS66 CAC WOW! What a great looking 1857 Flying Eagle cent! Despite a mintage of nearly 17.5 million and status as the first year of issue for general circulation, you would think that there would be more that were saved at the time of issue in SUPERB grade; this is not the case. Above MS64, this date becomes quite scarce and is VERY RARE in MS66. The present high end and high grade survivor is boldly lustrous with a flowing, radiating satin bloom that enlivens the surfaces. The devices are fully rendered by an exacting blow from the dies, which pressed every minute detail strongly into the copper-nickel planchet. Warm orange-tan color has lighter golden highlights that attest to the absolute originality of this border- line-SUPERB GEM example. The surfaces are clean and there is a tiny toning dot or two that can be seen with a strong glass. PCGS 26, NGC 12, CAC 10. The most recent PCGS/CAC MS66 to sell brought $15,600 in the 2018 ANA auction, but keep in mind we sold a PCGS MS65+ CAC for $18,213. The current PCGS Price Guide value is $17,500. Just a single MS66+ is graded finer at PCGS, a coin that has never sold in auction, and who knows when, if ever, it becomes available to collectors. PCGS MS65+ CAC This is a gorgeous Flying Eagle cent! Everything about this GEM is impressive. A billowing mint luster shines throughout the surfaces. As you rotate the coin around in a light, hints of prooflike reflection can be seen in areas of the fields. All the devices are sharply struck and fully defined; each of the eagle’s feathers and the details in the reverse wreath are crisply defined by an expert strike from the dies. LOT 76 1C 1856 FLYING EAGLE. PCGS PR65 CAC This is a high end example of the S-9 variety. Full GEM quality in every way with wonderful watery reflection in the fields, coupled with a sharp strike and warm slate-blue and lovely golden tan and orange patina on both sides. Every detail is exquisitely rendered with full crisp definition to all of the eagle’s feathers. The planchet is hard, with no flaws, pre or post minting, and the eye appeal is superb. By the early 1850s, the cost of copper rose to the point where the large cent was no longer a viable coin, and the half cent had little use in commerce. Starting in 1850, and progressing to mid decade, the mint began experimenting with different sized planchets and different alloys. By 1856, they decided on the familiar diameter we still use today, but thicker and a copper/ nickel alloy. A small number were struck in 1856 for VIPs. The total mintage is approximated at 1,500, many of the survivors are lower grade or impaired. Though scarce, GEMS are seen in auction a few times per year, but always bring strong prices when they do, especially when CAC approved. PCGS 61, NGC 33, CAC 23. The most recent PCGS/CAC PR65 to sell in auction brought $38,775 in our May 2019 Regency Auction. The present coin brought $32,900 in the 2015 ANA auction, and the current PCGS Price Guide value is $33,500. LOT 82 1C 1877 PCGS MS66+ BN CAC It is clear to us this coin survived 142 years hidden away in some safe storage where it was allowed to tone wonderfully. The quality is VERY HIGH END and is the FINEST grade! Virtually immaculate surfaces adorn both asides. The reverse has a small possibly hidden cut (there is die clashing in the area) that you need a glass to see - once you find it. We think that is what keeps this coin from a full MS67 BN grade. There is a strong luster that beams from all over. Both sides were blessed by Mother Nature with original shades of olive/brown/pale mint red/green/ pale violet colors. There are ZERO spots or discolorations. You do not even need a glass to see the needle sharp strike. The eye appeal is gorgeous! PCGS 1, NGC 1, CAC 1.
