576 ตํารบั ยาจีนที่ใชบ อยในประเทศไทย เลม 3 Powder of Coix Seed, Aconite Root and Patrinia (薏苡附子败酱散 Yiyi Fuzi Baijiang San) Source: Synopsis of Prescriptions of the Golden Chamber Ingredients: Coix Seed, Semen Coicis 30 g No.1 Prepared aconite root, Radix Aconiti Praeparata 6g No.2 Patrinia, Herba Patriniae 15 g No.3 Directions: All the above drugs are to be decocted in water for oral administration. Functions: Promoting pus discharge and relieving swelling. Indications: Periappendicular abscess with pus formed marked by squamous and dry skin, absence of fever, guarding and distention in the right lower abdomen that feels soft when pressing, and rapid pulse. Besides, chronic appendicitis in which pus has already formed and purgation is not suitable for it may be treated with the modified recipe. Interpretation: As a principal drug, the first ingredient in the recipe is dominant in dosage and has the effects of removing dampness and relieving swelling. The last ingredient, as an assistant drug, is used for promoting pus discharge and removing blood stasis. Being the least in dosage, the second ingredient with a pungent flavor and hot property plays an adjuvant part for dispelling cold-dampness and promoting the qi –flow to eliminate depression and obstruction. Cautions: The recipe should not be administered for patients with acute appendicitis without formation of pus which may be treated by purgation.
