5. Silkworm Cultivation Growing mulberry, sericulture, reeling silk, and weaving silk is an exquisite process of time-consuming, observant, continuous, and passionate care. Farmers usually plant mulberry at the beginning of the rainy season, not far from the house, or at the foot of the stairs before entering the house. If you do sericulture on the patio, you will pick mulberry leaves and chop them for silkworms to eat easily. Today, indigenous mulberry varieties are still common in the I-San region, where sericulture is most commonly grown in Thailand. The silk farming area will be peaceful, the children will not make noise, the father will stop smoking tobacco, and the family member in the house will help keep it clean. There are covers to protect silkworms from flies, whitefly, mosquitoes, or ants, to collect young mulberry leaves to chop enough silkworms, to select unhealthy silkworms or separate diseases to prevent the spread, and keep an eye on when the silkworm grows, therefore separate the baskets so that it is not too tight. When it matures with a yellowish color called ripe silk, it must be moved to a new basket to build the nest. During the silk nesting, it must be well-ventilated because when the silk releases the cocoon, if the humidity is high, it will cause the sticky silk Sericin to dry slowly. When pressed against multiple layers, the Sericin sticks tightly, making the silk draw difficult, and the silk will be easily broken. Once the nest is fully nested, the fragments attached to the cocoon must be removed before being drawn. Silkworm farmers in the past noticed and learned for themselves that after raising silkworms of the same species for a long time, the silkworms will become weaker, and the farmers will seek other silkworm types from other villages, no matter how close or far away. Farmers will cross attractive species with silk varieties. This results in new silk species that are strong, easy to raise, and produce better cocoons, demonstrating the folk wisdom of adaptation and variety selection learned through practical experience. Strong silkworm breeders give more than 300 eggs. When it is a pupa, there is a cocoon covered and drawn as a thread, one nest gets a silk thread 200-400 meters in length. 100

It is a large silk thread with knotted buttons, not very shiny. Mai Song (Two silk) reels from the middle of the cocoon with fewer knotted buttons. Mai Neung (One silk) reels from the inner cocoon, often called small silk. The fine lines are gleaming, beautifully woven, and highly prized. Boiled sticky Sericin silk separately: it must be boiled thoroughly, so the filaments will absorb the color well. The color does not fade. Dyeing: use quality colors, and the right quantity, so the color does not remain outside the silk, causing the color to fade as well. Spinning or twisting the filament into the tube: tidy silk threads, and store or use them easily. Silk preservation: roll as a knot, and wrap paper with dried chili paste or insect-repellent herbs. Roll it tightly and cover it with another layer of fabric, store it in a dry place where the sun does not reach and the silk threads will remain intact for a long time. Weaving: There are two main types of silk thread in the weaving process: warp silk, which is the length of the fabric that the weaver will prepare beforehand and weft silk is a silk thread that runs along the transverse side of the fabric. The weaver spins in the bobbin and draws transversely as it weaves. I-San people have the wisdom, imagination, and talent to weave and live in landscapes suitable for sericulture. Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother, has continuously supported, promoted, restored, and preserved until now. 102

Types of Fabrics Collected by the Support Foundation of Her Majesty Queen of Thailand 1. Cotton One of the oldest woven fabrics. It has been used since ancient times around the world. Cotton is a fiber derived from cotton fluff. When blended into strips and woven into fabrics, it will get a fabric that is durable, comfortable to wear, and can be used to produce a variety of garments. When His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great and Her Majesty Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother traveled to Klai Kangwon Palace in Hua Hin District in 1963 and learned that the people in Khao Tao could not fish during the monsoon season, the Queen Mother decided to promote the profession of cotton weaving to the women of Khao Tao to sell as an additional income. ผา้ ฝา้ ยทอมอื Hand-Woven Cotton 103

2. ผ้ายก ผ้ายกเป็นผ้าไหมท่ีทอยกดอกให้เห็นเป็นลายเด่นข้ึน จากเน้ือผ้าด้วยการยกเส้นยืนบางเส้นข้ึน นิยมทอด้วยไหมและ สอดแทรกด้วยเส้นเงินเส้นทองเพ่ือความสวยงาม ผ้ายกเมืองนครศรีธรรมราชมีช่ือเสียงมาต้ังแต่สมัยอยุธยาในฐานะผ้า ราชสํานัก ซ่ึงทอด้วยไหมเน้ือละเอียด สอดแทรกลวดลายด้วยไหมเงินไหมทองอย่างประณีต เม่ือสมเด็จพระบรมราช ชนนีพันปีหลวงทรงตระหนักว่าผ้ายกนครกําลังจะขาดผู้สืบทอด จึงทรงพระกรุณาโปรดเกล้าฯ ให้ครูผู้เช่ียวชาญผ้าราช สํานักไปฝึกสอน จนปัจจุบันสมาชิกศิลปาชีพบ้านเนินธัมมังและบ้านตรอกแคสามารถทอผ้ายกทองเมืองนครได้อย่าง งดงาม เป็นการอนุรักษ์พรอ้ มกับการสร้างรายได้แก่ชาวบ้าน 2.Brocade The brocade fabric is a silk fabric that weaves the flowers into a distinctive pattern from the fabric by lifting some warp lines. It is popularly woven with silk and inserted with silver and gold threads for aesthetic purposes. Nakhon Si Thammarat brocade silk has been famous since the Ayutthaya period as a royal cloth, which is woven with fine silk, and intricately interwoven with silver and gold silk patterns. When Her Majesty Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother recognized that the Nakhon brocade fabric would soon be without an heir, so the Queen Mother graciously allowed teachers who specialize in royal cloth to go to practice. Until now, members of Ban Noen Thammang and Ban Trok Khae have been able to weave the Nakhon brocade fabric beautifully. 3. ผ้าขิด ผ้าขิดคือผ้าท่ีสร้างลวดลายด้วยการสะกิดช้อนเส้นยืนข้ึนเพ่ือสอดเส้นพุ่งให้เกิดเป็นลวดลายท่ีโดดเด่น หรือท่ีเรียกว่าการ “ขิด” ในภาษาอีสาน ผ้าขิดจึงมีวิธกี ารทอผ้าให้เกิดลวดลายโดยการสะกิดช้อนเส้นยืนข้ึน เพ่ือเพิ่มเส้นพุ่งพิเศษสีใดสีหน่ึง ในระหว่างการทอ เม่ือสมเด็จพระบรมราชชนนีพันปีหลวงเสด็จฯ ไปทรงเย่ียมราษฎรในภาคอีสาน และได้ทอดพระเนตร เห็นหมอนขิดท่ีสวยงาม จึงมีพระราชดําริให้ถอดลายจากผ้าขิดท่ีหน้าหมอน นํามาทอและขยายหน้าผ้าให้กว้างข้ึนเพ่ือ เพ่มิ ประโยชน์ใชส้ อย และยังเป็นการเสริมรายได้ให้แก่ชาวบา้ น 3.Khid Khid is a fabric that creates a pattern by pricking a warp thread to insert the weft thread to create a distinctive pattern, also known as \"Khid\" in the I-San language. Therefore, Khid fabrics have a way of weaving patterns by pricking a warp thread upwards to add a particular color of extra weft strands during weaving. When Her Majesty Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother visited the people in the Northeast and saw the beautiful Khid pillows, the Queen Mother decided to take the Khid pattern on the front of the pillows to be woven and widen the fabric to increase its functionality and also to generate the income for the villagers. ผา้ ขดิ Khid 105

4. ผ้าจก ผ้าจกคือ ผ้าท่ีสร้างลวดลายด้วยการช้อนเส้นยืนข้ึนด้วยขนเม่นเพ่ือสอดเส้นพุ่งท่ีมีสีสัน จก ภาษาเหนือหมายถึงการล้วง หรือควัก ผ้าจกจึงมีวิธกี ารทอผ้าให้เกิดลวดลายโดยการช้อนเส้นยนื ข้ึนด้วยขนเม่น เพ่ือเก่ียวเส้นพุง่ พิเศษหลากเส้นหลาย สีสันเข้าไปในระหว่างการทอ สร้างเป็นลวดลายท่ีเด่นข้ึนมา สร้างลวดลายซ่ึงเกิดข้ึนด้านใต้ก่ี การทอจกต้องใช้ความ ประณีตสูง ทําได้ช้า และหาผู้สืบทอดได้ยาก เม่ือสมเด็จพระกนิษฐาธิราชเจ้า กรมสมเด็จพระเทพรัตนราชสุดาฯ สยาม บรมราชกุมารีราชกุมารี ได้ทรงพบกับช่างทอผ้าจกคูบัว จ. ราชบุรี ใน พ.ศ. 2520 จึงได้กราบบังคมทูลสมเด็จพระบรม ราชชนนีพันปีหลวงให้ทรงรับเป็นครูสอนทอจกท่ีโรงฝึกศิลปาชีพ เพ่ือสืบทอดและอนุรักษ์การทอผ้าจกแบบโบราณ ต่อไป 4.Jok Jok is a fabric that creates patterns by lifting warp threads with hedgehog hairs to insert colorful weft streaks. Jok in the Northern language means to pick or to scoop out. Therefore, the weaving method is to create a pattern by lifting warp threads with hedgehog hairs to insert the special, multi-colored weft strands during the weaving to create a distinctive pattern and create a pattern that occurs underneath. Weaving requires high sophistication, is time-consuming, and difficult to find a successor. Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn met with a Khu Bua weaver in Ratchaburi province in 1977 and then informed Her Majesty Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother to accept Khu Bua weaver as a teacher at the Support Foundation of Her Majesty Queen of Thailand to continue to inherit and preserve the ancient weaving. ผา้ จก Jok 106

5. ผ้าแพรวา แพรวาหรือแพวา หมายถึงผ้าผืนยาวประมาณ 1 วา กว้างประมาณ 1 ศอก วิธที อท่ีผสมการจกและขิดคือสะกิดเส้นไหมสี ต่างๆ ข้ึนมาโดยใช้มือจกหรือยกเส้นด้ายยืนโดยไม่ใช้เข็มหรือขนเม่น เม่ือสมเด็จพระบรมราชชนนีพันปีหลวงเสด็จฯ ไป ทรงเย่ียมราษฎรใน จ.กาฬสินธุ์ ใน พ.ศ. 2520 ทอดพระเนตรหญิงชาวผู้ไทยท่ีมาเฝ้าฯ รับเสด็จ สวมเส้ือแขนกระบอกสี ดํา มีแพรวาสีแดงเข้มพาดเบ่ียงสวยงาม จึงทรงสนับสนุนให้ชาวบ้านทอผ้าแพรวาจําหน่ายและก่อต้ังกลุ่มศิลปาชีพแพร วาบา้ นโพนข้ึน 5. Praewa Praewa or Paewa refers to a piece of cloth about 1 wah long and about 1 cubit wide. The weaving method that mixes the Jok and Khid is to poke up the silk threads of different colors using your hands or lift the warp yarn without needles or hedgehog hair. When Her Majesty Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother visited Kalasin province in 1977 and saw a Thai woman who came to welcome wearing a black sleeve shirt with a beautiful crimson Praewa, the Queen Mother encouraged the villagers to weave Praewa fabric for sale and established the Praewa Ban Phon Arts and Crafts Group. ผา้ แพรวา 107

6. ผ้ามัดหม่ี ผ้ามัดหม่ีเป็นผ้าทอท่ีสร้างลวดลายก่อนย้อมโดยใช้เชือกมัดเส้นด้ายเป็นเปลาะๆ หรือไหมแล้วนําไปย้อม เม่ือย้อมสีจะไม่ ติดส่วนท่ีมัดไว้ ต้องใช้ความชํานาญในการทําอย่างมาก สมเด็จพระบรมราชชนนีพันปีหลวงประทับพระราชหฤทัยใน ความงดงามของผ้าไหมมัดหม่ีต้ังแต่เม่ือคร้ังเสด็จฯ ไปทรงเย่ียมราษฎรผู้ประสบภัยน้ําท่วมท่ี จ.นครพนม ใน พ.ศ. 2513 ต่อมาจึงทรงพระราชดําริให้ชาวบ้านทอผ้ามัดหม่ีจําหน่าย และโปรดทรงฉลองพระองค์ท่ีตัดเย็บจากผ้ามัดหม่ีในหลาย โอกาสจนทําให้ผ้าชนิดน้ีเป็นท่ีนิยมและสรา้ งรายได้ให้แก่ประชาชนอยา่ งย่ังยืน 6. Ikat Ikat is a woven fabric that creates a pattern before dyeing it by using a rope to tie the yarn into a piece of silk and dye it. When stained, the tied part is not attached to the color. It takes a lot of dexterity to do it. Since 1970, when Her Majesty Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother visited flood victims in Nakhon Phanom province, she has been impressed by the beauty of Ikat silk. Later, the Queen graciously instructed the villagers to weave Ikat fabrics for sale and frequently wore dresses made from Ikat fabric, making this fabric popular and generating sustainable income for the people. ผา้ มดั หมี่ 108

7. ผ้าปักซอยแบบไทย ผ้าปักซอยคือผ้าปักแบบโบราณของไทย ใช้วิธีปักข้ึนลงถ่ีๆ สับหว่าง และโค้งไปตามลวดลายภาพต้นแบบ การปักซอย แบบไทยน้ันต้องอาศัยความละเอียดสูง ผู้มีฝีมือจะปักให้เกิดเหลือบเงาได้เหมือนจริง โดยนิยมปักภาพจากวรรณคดีหรือ ธรรมชาติ สมเด็จพระบรมราชชนนีพันปีหลวงทรงพระกรุณาโปรดเกล้าฯ ให้ครูไปฝึกสอนการปักซอยให้แก่ราษฎรใน จังหวัดต่างๆ ต้ังแต่ พ.ศ. 2518 เป็นต้นมา เพ่อื ให้เป็นอาชพี เสรมิ เพิ่มรายได้ให้ครอบครวั 7. Thai-Style Embroidery Thai-Style embroidery is a traditional Thai embroidered fabric with various stitching techniques, such as running, zigzag, outline, and curving chain stitches combine with lavish material to create dazzling textiles according to the original pattern which needs high thorough in embroidery. Skilled people can embroider realistic glimpses of shadows, preferring to embroider images from literature or nature. 8. ผ้าชาวไทยภูเขา ผ้าชาวไทยภูเขามีเอกลักษณ์ท่ีแตกต่างกันไปในแต่ละชาติพันธุ์ สร้างสรรค์ข้ึนด้วยทักษะของสตรีชาวไทยภูเขา โดยอาศัย องค์ความรู้ ภูมิปัญญา การฝึกฝน เรียนรู้ และถ่ายทอดมาจากบรรพบุรุษ ผ้าชาวเขาในแต่ละท้องถ่ินจึงมีเอกลักษณ์ท่ี แตกต่างกันไปในแต่ละชาติพันธุ์อย่างชัดเจน เม่ือสมเด็จพระบรมราชชนนีพันปีหลวงเสด็จฯ ไปทรงเย่ียมราษฎรในพ้ืนท่ี สูง ชาวไทยภูเขาท่ีมาเฝ้าฯ รับเสด็จได้กราบบังคมทูลขอพระราชทานอาชีพ สมเด็จพระบรมราชชนนีพันปีหลวงจึงทรง ส่งเสริมให้ทําผ้าตามความถนัดของแต่ละเผ่าแล้วทรงรับซ้ือไว้ จากน้ันจึงทรงพระกรุณาโปรดเกล้าฯ ให้นํามาตัดเย็บเป็น ฉลองพระองค์ เพ่อื เป็นตัวอยา่ งให้ประชาชนเห็นว่าผ้าชาวไทยภูเขาสามารถนํามาประยุกต์ใช้ได้หลากหลาย 8. Thai Hill Tribe Thai hill tribe fabrics are unique in different ethnicities, created with the skills of Thai hill tribe women, based on knowledge, wisdom, practice, learning, and inheritance from ancestors. Therefore, the local hill tribe fabrics are unique to each ethnicity. When Her Majesty Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother visited the people in the highlands, the Thai hill tribe people who came to welcome her asked for a career. The Queen Mother, therefore, encouraged them to make fabrics according to the aptitude of each tribe and purchased them later. Then, Her Majesty Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother kindly asked them to sew a royal costume to serve as an example to the public that Thai hill tribe fabrics can be applied in a variety of ways. ผา้ ชาวไทยภเู ขา Thai Hill Tribe 110

9. ผ้าบาติก ผ้าบาติก หรือผ้าปาเต๊ะ หมายถึงผ้าท่ีมีลวดลายเป็นส่วนๆ ท่ีสร้างลวดลายโดยการใช้เทียนหรือข้ีผ้ึงวาดปิดส่วนท่ีไม่ ต้องการให้ติดสีก่อนนําไปย้อมสหี รอื ลงสี เม่ือพระบาทสมเด็จพระจุลจอมเกล้าเจ้าอยูห่ ัวเสด็จเยือนชวา 3 คร้ัง ในระหว่าง พ.ศ. 2413 - 2444 ได้ทรงซ้ือและมีผู้ทูลเกล้าฯ ถวายผ้าบาติกเป็นจํานวนมาก พิพิธภัณฑ์ผ้าในสมเด็จพระนางเจ้าสิริกิติ์ พระบรมราชินีนาถ จึงได้ขอพระราชทานพระราชานุญาตสมเด็จพระบรมราชชนนีพันปีหลวง เชิญผ้าบาติกดังกล่าว ออกมาศึกษาและอนุรักษ์ เพ่ือนําไปจัดแสดงนิทรรศการให้คนท่ัวไปได้เรียนรู้ประวัติศาสตร์และวัฒนธรรมการใช้ ผ้าบาติก 9. Batik Batik or Pa Teh refers to a fabric with a part of a pattern that creates a pattern by using candles or wax to write cover the parts that do not want to be colored before dyeing or painting. When His Majesty King Chulalongkorn visited the Java region three times between 1870 and 1901, he purchased and was offered a large number of batiks. Queen Sirikit Museum of Textile has asked Her Majesty Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother to grant her royal permission to bring the batik to be studied and preserved to display it in an exhibition for the public to learn about the history and culture of batik. 111

Princess Sirivannavari is a granddaughter of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great and Her Majesty Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother and has 2 siblings: Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha Narendiradebyavati and His Royal Highness Prince Dipangkorn Rasmijoti. Princess Sirivannavari also referred to herself as “Lady”. Princess Sirivannavari was titled Mom Chao Busyanambejra Mahidol, but later changed to Mom Chao Chakkrityapha Mahidol and once again to Mom Chao Sirivanvari Mahidol upon royal command of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother. Later, His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great graciously announced to Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana on 15 June 2005. 119

Princess Sirivannavari was awarded the Outstanding Student Award of the academic year 2008 before entering a master's degree at the L’École de la Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne, France. Chulalongkorn University presented an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Fine Arts in 2018 to Princess Sirivannavari, whose royal duty is to improve the quality of life of the people. Princess Sirivannavari is capable of applying knowledge in fine arts and integrating with other sciences in an interdisciplinary field to improve the quality of life in the creative economy and creative culture industry that benefits academic and professional circles as well as people and the nation. Princess Sirivannavari also supported fine arts activities in Thailand and accepted the degree in 2020. 121
