The Regency Auction OCTOBER 26 | PHILADELPHIA, PA |DOUBLETREEWelcome to the 23rd Regency Auction! This is our largest and most valuable auction yet! We would like to thank the 52consignors who entrusted their rare coins to our auction, including a large number of first time consignors. We haveclearly proven over the course of the last four years that Legend Rare Coin Auctions’ boutique venue and style getsstrong results for our consignors. You will be very impressed with the 548 hand selected lots in the pages that follow. We start off with the D.W. Collection.Assembled with care over the course of many years by a long-time customer of Legend Numismatics, the fruits of hislabor appear as lots 1-55. There are many wonderful coins, including early and Seated dollars, and exceptional superbgem gold coins. In the lots that follow the D.W. Collection are selections from the High Octane, Dale Larsen, and San Francisco Setcollections. The High Octane group is primarily high grade copper coins, as well as a few key date Buffalo nickels. Theselections from the Dale Larsen Collection are wonderfully toned type coins that were put back by a long-time coindealer, and cover many types. The San Francisco Set features high end, toned Morgan dollars, mostly sourced from ourofferings of the Sunnywood-Simpson Collection, as well as private purchases from our sister firm, Legend Numismatics.Following the San Francisco Set, are additional Morgan dollars from various consignors, and include three of thehighlights of the sale, the Eliasberg-Coronet 1892-S (PCGS MS67 CAC), the Eliasberg-Coronet 1893-O (PCGS MS66PL CAC), and the world’s most valuable Morgan dollar, the Vermeule-Coronet 1893-S (PCGS MS67 CAC—the FINESTKNOWN). These three coins present an unbelievable opportunity for any Morgan Dollar collector or trophy hunter!Gold coins begin with our offering of an original, matched, GEM 1902 4-piece proof set. The $5 and $10 are both FINESTcertified by PCGS for their issue, making this a remarkable offering. Then commences the current #2 PCGS Registry Setof $10 Indians, the Crow River Collection, a set that is lacking only the extremely rare 1933 to be complete. Most of thecoins were hand selected for this set by the principals of Legend Numismatics, so you know that each coin, graded byPCGS is high end and attractive! The sale continues with the gold coins from other important consignors, and ends witha great offering of high grade commemoratives, and selections from the Rainbow Warrior Collection. We hope to see you in Philadelphia during the PCGS Members Only Show for our Regency Sale. Few places in the UnitedStates have as compelling a numismatic history as Philadelphia, seat of the first government during the Revolution, andthe site of the first mint, and where to this day, a coinage facility operates, churning out the coins needed in day to daycommercial transactions. It is fitting then that Legend’s largest, most valuable offering is being offered in this locale. Thestaff at LRCA will be at your service. If you have any presale questions do not hesitate to call or email. If you are unable toattend in person to view, we have made arrangements with PCGS to have full lot viewing at the “Public Friday” event onOctober 13th in Santa Ana, CA. You may also contact us to preview the sale ahead of time in our office.Happy collecting!Julie Abrams Greg Cohen Serena MyersPresident Senior Numismatist Director of Administration

Laura Sperber P R I N C I PA L S Partner Laura was raised in Highland Park, NJ. During high school, the coin bug hit her hard. HerBruce Morelan trip to the 1976 NYC ANA left a lasting mark and huge desire for her to own and handle the Partner greatest rarities. While attending Monmouth University, Laura attended coin shows more than classes. After college, she started LSS RCI, a wholesale coin company. In 1986, she realized Julie Abrams the need for a “better” coin retailer and teamed up in 1986 with George Huang to form Legend President Numismatics. In 1996 Bruce Morelan became a partner and since then Legend has exclusively built or assisted in assembling this generation’s greatest collections. In 2012 Laura saw the need for a smaller, boutique auction firm, and created Legend-Morphy with Dan Morphy, whom she split with in 2014. Today, Laura is also a leading consumer advocate for coins. The passion has never subsided, and she keeps a beautiful Proof Walker on her desk to this day. Bruce started collecting coins when he was only six years old and by the time he was in high school his dream was to be a coin dealer. But life intervened and instead, Bruce went into business. By chance, he became Legend Numismatics’ financial backer in 1996. His great grandmother had given him three coins when he was young, one of which being a Trade Dollar, so he set out to build the finest Trade Dollar set. After a few years with ultra rarities, Bruce returned to his love of dollars and completed both a set of Gobrechts and a set of Seated Dollars. After selling those sets, Bruce recently returned to dollars with a new Gobrecht set and a spectacular early dollar set capped by his dream coin, the Amon Carter 1794 Dollar. Not many collector’s can say they have completed not only the finest 1794-1885 Dollar Sets and have over the years owned such coins as two 1913 Liberty Head Nickels, an 1894-S Dime, 1876-CC Twenty Cent piece, 1827 Original and Restrike Quarters, 1838-O Half Dollar, two 1885 Trade Dollars and four 1884 Trade Dollars! Julie Abrams started in numismatics in 1986 when she joined up with Bernard Rome and launched Teletrade, the first computerized auction company. Teletrade developed a unique coin trading method, utilizing state-of-the-art digitized voice board technology to run live auctions before the advent of the internet. As President of Teletrade, Julie helped expand the company, increasing the frequency of auctions and expanding annual sales to $24 million within a few years. In 1999, GMAI, a publicly traded company, purchased Teletrade and Ms. Abrams became Executive Vice President of Sales for the parent company. Her job responsibilities included continuing her role as CEO for Teletrade as well as marketing to buyers and consignors, with the goal of maintaining a balance between inventory and sales while growing the business. In 2004 she joined Stacks-Bowers, an old world traditional auction house where she worked to expand their e-commerce presence, including the development of an online bidding platform for the firm. She also marketed Stacks’ programs to secure consignments from dealers and institutions such as banks, museums and universities. Julie is a member of the American Numismatic Association, the Central States Numismatic Association and Florida United Numismatists. WELCOME TO THE DW COLLECTION Legend Race Coin Auctions is honored to have been consigned the DW Collection of Type. We have known the consignor for many years, sold him many coins, and followed him though all his phases. No matter what he collected at the time-nothing was more important to him then real quality and great eye appeal. If you notice the vast majority of his coin are CAC. There are no average coins in this collection!  His model of buying the best and holding should serve as an inspiration to others. He did it all “his way” and got it right. The DW Collector never shied away from purchasing a great coin for premium money. The result of his pursuits is the marvelous collection we are offering today. He is selling because it is retirement time. We know he will miss his coins badly. However, we know he will be at great peace knowing his coins ended up in great collections.   We wish our longtime friend well and good luck on his well-deserved retirement. 6

Highly reflective fields show a wealth of original mint red and lots of wonderful violet overtones which highlight the extremely crisp details of Ms. Liberty’s hair, stars and wreath. When rotated in a light, the mirrors really do flash and show off additional hues of teal and blue. James Clarke is well known for his amazing early U.S. coinsand Colonial issues. Ted Naftzger is synonymous with QUALITY large cents.
