LOT 88 50C 1874 ARROWS. NGC PR67 CAM Legend Rare Coin Auctions is honored to offer the SINGLE FINEST Cameo Proof that exists for the date graded by either service! Simply sensational, deeply beaming, bold, clean, and awe inspiring mirrored fields are blindingly reflective. The highly polished finish from the dies shows up in the form of some minor polish lines in the fields, but they are natural from the minting process. The surfaces are unimpeded by any haze or toning and the devices offer a thick, creamy white frost that creates a stunning Cameo contrast between the devices and the fields. The eye appeal is awesome. In 1873, the weight of silver coins was increased, and in the case of the half dollar, went from 12.44 grams to 12.50 grams. To signify the new weight standard, like in 1853-55, arrows were added to the obverse die flanking the date. Ex. LOT 98 50C 1888 NGC PR68 ULTRA CAMEO Another SPECTACULAR SUPERB GEM DEEP CAMEO Proof in the Boylston Collection. No question this beast ranks as the FINEST KNOWN! This coin’s eye appeal and quality is simply stunning! Rare in this classification, PCGS and NGC combined have graded seven in the Deep/Ultra Cameo designation, this one is the FINEST by a wide margin! Stark black and white DEEP CAMEO contrast is eye arresting and is nearly blinding. The deeply beaming mirrors are exquisitely well preserved and offer bold clarity and cleanliness. The fields are icy sleek with a bold, flashy reflection. The devices are thickly frosted and stand out in 3D effect like an iceberg above the surfaces of a deep ocean. As expected for this amazing high grade, the surfaces are PRISTINE and the eye appeal is amazing. Only 800 Proofs were struck. PCGS 0, NGC 1. Off the market since July 2003, this coin is absolutely amazing and worthy of a world class set. Since PCGS has graded nothing finer than PR65+ DCAM, there is no Collectors Universe value for such a high grade, and no D/UCAM examples in any grade have sold in auction since 2005. If you are building a top pop set, a Type set, or just buy neat coins, this is one you need! It is a once in a life time opportunity. LOT 99 50C 1889 NGC PR64 CAC A wonderful borderline GEM! Bold mirrored reflection on both sides offer a generous depth of clarity. The fields have minimal light ticks on the obverse, accounting for the assigned grade, but do not detract from the excellent eye appeal. Only 711 Proofs were struck. PCGS 52, NGC 46, CAC 7. Only one NGC CAC example has been sold in auction, going for $2,640 in April 2019. The current Collectors Universe Price Guide is $1,650. A very nice near-GEM that will delight any collector. PCGS# 6450 | EST: $1,500+ LOT 100 50C 1890 PCGS PR66 DCAM WOW! Sensational mirrors deeply reflect the light and bold contrast with remarkably frosted central devices. The fields are essentially as struck and only a tiny tic or two from perfection. Wholly untoned and super attractive. PCGS 5, NGC 3, CAC 0. Only 7 finer in total, only 2 finer (PR67) at PCGS. Listed in the PCGS price guide at $11,000. Most recent record for the date and grade at auction was $11,400 in November 2019. Among the very finest survivors from a mintage of 590. A coin of this beauty and quality represents good value ñ if you could locate one of the PCGS PR67DCAM’s it would cost at least twice as much. A great opportunity to add to a premium set. LOT 101 50C 1890 PCGS PR67 CAM CAC An old friend, a coin we sold in May 2016 as part of the Valley Collection. Oh so close to a full DCAM designation, this coin has a bold, black and white contrast between the fields and devices. Essentially untoned, this beauty has just a hint of pale peripheral iridescent tone. A spectacular SUPERB GEM that has a sensational look. Only 590 Proofs were struck. PCGS 3, NGC 9, CAC 2. In May 2016 this coin realized $11,750. The PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $12,500 and the CAC CPG is $13,800. Just four coins are graded finer, making this SUPERB example a perfect coin for any carefully chosen high end set. Good luck! PCGS# 86451 | EST: $12,000+ LOT 102 50C 1858 J-222. PCGS PR63 This is the VERY FINEST KNOWN example of this very RARE and important Pattern Seated Liberty half dollar. Mating regular 1858 Proof obverse with Anthony C. Paquet’s “Perfect Ribbon” perched eagle design. Similar to the adopted reverse, this perched eagle has an unbroken ribbon inscribed E PLURIBUS UNUM that is held in the beak and drapes down across the union shield. Paquet’s letter punches, made famous on the 1861 and 1861-S double eagles that bear his name, shorter olive branch, and longer arrows are just some of the subtle differences of this reverse. Struck in silver with a reeded edge, this is a Rarity-7+ pattern with just four examples known. Deeply and richly toned surfaces do not obscure the watery underlying mirrors. The elegance of Paquet’s design is fully visible thanks to a an exacting strike. The surfaces have a deep azure and olive-gray patina, giving this CHOICE example a totally original and antique visual quality. Ex Stack’s 1976 ANA Auction, August 1976, lot 3600; New York Connoisseur’s Collection, American Numismatic Rarities, March 2006, lot 1663; Richard C. Jewell Collection, Stack’s Bowers, August 2011, lot 7485. Possibly earlier ex R.E. Cox Collection, Stack’s, April 1962. PCGS 1, NGC 0. Off the auction market for over a decade now, the last two appearances this coin made in auction, it realized $17,250. The Simpson Collection had a PR61. Imagine you can own a FINER example of this important rarity than Bob Simpson did! The current Collectors Universe value is $20,000 but it would not shock us if this fabulous rarity brought more. Good luck. PCGS# 11916 | EST: $17,000+ THE BOYLSTON COLLECTION PART III 61

LOT 103 50C 1859 J-235. PCGS PR64+ CAM CAC One of Anthony Paquet’s famous half dollar Patterns. This Seated Liberty design was also employed as a concept for a double eagle design. Liberty sits upright one hand holding up a union shield, the other a fasces. This design embodies a strong national bearing, as does the perched eagle reverse design, with ribbon inscribed E PLURIBUS UNUM, seen on the J-222 rarity offered in the previous lot. Listed as Rarity-6, struck in silver with a reeded edge. A brilliant intensity of the reflective untoned mirrors are a delight to behold. Virtually untoned the surfaces are clean and free from distractions, save for the mint made die polish lines. The design elements are sharply impressed and nicely frosted, contrasting nicely against the fields. The eye appeal is bold. PCGS 1, NGC 1, CAC 1. The PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $5,000. What a fantastic type that will delight anyone starting a pattern collection or an advanced Seated Liberty half dollar collection. PCGS# 388517 | EST: $5,000+ LOT 104 50C 1863 J-342. NGC PF67+* CAMEO The absolute FINEST KNOWN example of this important and RARE “transitional” pattern half dollar. Struck using the regular Proof 1863 die and the regular 1866 with Motto die, these were actually struck in the late 1860s or early 1870s for collectors and sold in sets. Struck in silver with a reeded edge, the Judd-342 is listed as a Low Rarity-7, with perhaps 7-12 known in all grades. This black and white deeply mirrored and contrasted Cameo Proof is SUPERB in its quality and eye appeal. The fields are blindingly reflective and possess a bold, depth of clarity that is simply stunning. The devices, with a sharp strike and thick mint frost stand out in stark contrast to the essentially flawless mirrors. The eye appeal is amazing! PCGS 0, NGC 1. While this coin sold in the 2017 ANA auction for $14,100, in our opinion, this coin is nicer than the Simpson coin that sold in January 2021 as a PCGS PR67 CAM CAC for $20,400. The current Collectors Universe value is listed at $22,500. Good luck, this coin is bound to please a whole host of pattern or Liberty Seated aficionados, and bidding will be as intense as the cameo contrast! LOT 105 50C 1868 J-651. PCGS PR65 CAM A very RARE die trial strike in aluminum, and the FINEST certified of this Rarity-7- issue. Struck from regular Proof dies, these off-metal strikings were produced as full Proof sets for collectors. Fully mirrored silver-gray surfaces beam with a bold reflection on both sides. Sharply struck, frosty devices stand out. A hint of iridescent white at the peripheries and a few tiny flecks serve as pedigree markers and do not have any impact on the GEM eye appeal. Ex William Rau Collection, Heritage April 2018, lot 4989 as NGC PR65 CAM. PCGS 1, NGC 0. This coin brought $6,600 in April 2018. The current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $9,000. This is an incredibly RARE and important opportunity for the collector, do not let it pass you by! PCGS# 535329 | EST: $6,500+ LOT 106 50C 1870 J-929. PCGS PR64+ RB CAC A very RARE pattern issue, marrying William Barber’s Liberty Seated design paired with a Standard Silver reverse die. Called an “illogical combination” in the 10th edition of Judd, as neither side says UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. This is a Rarity-7+, with an estimated 4-6 examples known, struck in copper with a reeded edge. A bold deep, brick red color belies an overlay of rich violet-teal, with accents of magenta and tangerine that are brought out by a stunning reflective finish to the fields. The devices are razor sharp and stand out boldly in a glorious 3-D effect. The eye appeal is exceptional in every way! PCGS 3, NGC 0, CAC 1. This is the only PR64+ in the RB designation and there is just a single PR65 graded finer. Unpriced in the PCGS Price Guide a 64 RB is valued at $8,500 and at $10,000 in PR65. This coin is bound for a fabulous set of pattern half dollars. Good luck. PCGS# 71174 | EST: $7,500+ THE BOYLSTON COLLECTION PART III 63

LOT 107 50C 1870 J-929A. PCGS PR66 RD CAM CAC Ex Denali Collection, as noted on the insert. This is a GORGEOUS GEM example of this VERY RARE pattern. It is also an interesting example of how designations change over time as more research and scholarship changes. In earlier editions of the Judd reference, J-929a was listed, thinking it was a separate variant with the letters of LIBERTY on the ribbon incuse, rather than raised. It has been determined that all examples from this issue have the letters raised, and in the 10th edition of Judd and uspatterns.com, the J-929a has been removed from the listings. Struck from the same dies as lot 106, it is a Rarity-7+, and this one, in PR66 RD CAM is the FINEST of all J-929. Ultra brilliant and flashy mirrors beam all over this gorgeous GEM. Everything is Premium Quality. Subtle accents of toning come out in a bright light, but they are all shades of RED. The devices are thickly frosted, imparting a stunning CAMEO contrast on both sides. The eye appeal is stone bold original and AMAZING. Ex. Stack’s 1971 ANA auction, August 1971, lot 464; Faraday Collection, Heritage, July 1994, lot 6136; Denali Collection; Legend Numismatics fixed price list, ca. 2010, at $23,500; Heritage, FUN sale, January 2017, lot 6160. PCGS 1, NGC 0, CAC 1. The current Collectors Universe value is listed at $12,000, but it would not be a shock to us if in today’s market, this sensational GEM passed that level in the dust! Think about what this coin is-a design that was proposed that never made the cut. And its in an off metal too. You can’t buy a better one! We think a coin like this is grossly over looked in today’s fast paced market. A truly amazing opportunity for the advanced pattern collector. PCGS# 800053 | EST: $12,000+ LOT 108 50C 1870 J-933. PCGS PR65 CAC A truly beautiful specimen of William Barber’s Seated Liberty type, struck in silver with a reeded edge, this coin is rated R-7- (with approximately 7-12 examples known). LOT 158 50C 1950 PCGS PR65 DCAM CAC Legend Rare Coin Auctions is proud to offer this extreme example of a 1950 Proof Franklin. Experts agree this coin has some of the deepest mirrors possible! Anyone who collects Proof Franklin half dollars knows how hard these early dates are to find in Cameo and especially Deep Cameo. The dies were given a polish at the beginning of production, and they continued to be used until all the reflective finish on the fields and frosty texture on the devices was worn away. Only the earliest of strikes retained any kind of contrast. Compounding on the quality of striking that limits grade and designation is the original mint packaging which often imparted hairlines or hazy toning. The present DCAM GEM has the most amazing mirrors in the fields. They are truly superb in their flashiness and brilliance, with the utmost in depth, clarity, and cleanliness. There is a blush of peripheral toning framing the obverse, but it really is invisible to the naked eye, blending into the blackness of the mirrors. The thickly frosted devices stand out in the boldest contrast you will likely see on any 1950 Proof half dollar. The surfaces are essentially flawless, with an icy, glassy smoothness that cannot be beat. PCGS 4, NGC 12, CAC 2.
