INNOVATION AND SYSTEM IMPROVEMENTS 1. WATER RECYCLING PLANT: As per the guidelines of National Green Tribunal, Mechanical Department of Salem Division has awarded contract for installation of 6 No’s of Water Recycling plant at 5 NGT nominated Stations and one at DRM office.

Out of 6 WRP, one WRP of 50KLD capacity is already installed and inaugurated by GM/SR on 03.02.2021 at Karur junction. On 28.04.2021, DRM/SA has inaugurated the 2nd Water Recycling plant of 50KLD at DRM office. 2. Alterations in pipe lines and control equipment of air suspension system as per RCFCoach Alteration Instruction (CAI):  The following TWO major modifications are carried out in coach no. SR LWSCZ 194496at Coimbatore coaching depot during April 2021.  After Modification, to check the effectiveness of the modifications, one trail run between CBE-TUP-CBE was conducted on 01.05.2021 and results were satisfactory. 1. Issue:Flexible hose pipe between Auxiliary Reservoir & leveling valve Touches with the coach body and has sharp bend. Steel pipe provided on under frame for connecting flexible hose to leveling valve has been shifted towards end of coach by 275 mm. Elbow has been provided on leveling valve to ensure smooth loop which is not touching with car body and ensures that bend Radius limits for the SAE100 hoses is not compromised. Drilling could not be done in the under frame for providing supporting brackets of shifted pipe line. Therefore, brackets were welded on the under frame.

OLD DESIGN NEW DESIGN 2. Issue: Failure of ferrule joint of flexible hoses for FIBA. This failure was attributable to the following root causes: - Relative movement between the bolster and the bogie frame which is constantly moving the hoses. Grazing of flexible hose with steel pipe for connection of leveling valve. Steel Pipe connected with leveling valve through flexible hose has been shifted towards coach end by 275 mm. This shifting resulted into clearance between flexible Hoses and steel pipes. Moreover, loop of flexible hose is become smoothened by providing additional male to female elbow with the metal pipe to FIBA unit.

¾ “M/F ELBOW STRAIGHTPIPE LINE 5 mm PLATE ¾ “M/F ELBOW OF SIZE 950 mm WITH BRACKET 3. FITMENT OF TRANSITION TYPE CBC:  LWLRRMs manufactured before 2019 are provided with straight ‘H’ type tight lock Center Buffer Couplers. Due to straight CBC, it is unable to attach Inspection carriages which were provided with Screw couplings.  To overcome the above said difficulty, power cars at rear end (Luggage compartment end) have to be provided with Transition Type CBC.  8 numbers of Transition coupler assemblies are fitted. Coaches. Before modification After Modification 4. Installation of Hot Axle Box Detector in SA Division  With the increase in traffic density and speed of trains, the risk of running rolling stock with defects has increased manifold causing serious

accidents and traffic disruption. Rolling stock defects like hot axle are serious threats to Railway safety and cause derailment and even fire leading to fatal accidents.  Already 5 No’s of HABD were installed in 2019 & 2020 sanctioned under PH-41. 2 more HABD were also sanctioned under 2018-19 HQMP.  Two HABD are now installed and commissioned on 27.04.20 at 1) LC No: 179 (KM 187/300-400) between MPLI-SXT under SA-VRI section and 2) LC No: 4 (KM 7/800) between KRR-VEI under KRR-DG section. 5. COIMBATORE JUNCTION - BECOMES THE FIRST RAILWAY STATION IN SOUTHERN RAILWAY TO EARN THE COVETED PLATINUM RATING FOR GREEN RAILWAY STATIONS The Coimbatore Junction of Salem Division, Southern Railway has earned the prestigious PLATINUM RATING for Green Railway Stations awarded by the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), part of the Confederation of Indian Industry 04.08.2021. 208 6. GAUGE FOR ELASTOMERIC PAD MEASUREMENT (Item 23: As per Innovations circulated by Railway Board letter No.2012/M (N)/24 Dt.25.06.2021) A Go (46 mm) /No-Go (42 mm) gauge was developed at Erode depot for free height measurement of EM pads. Prior to this only visual inspection was done. This gauge is very handy and an unskilled person can also perform measuring of EM pad in an easy manner.

7. POROSITY TEST BENCH FOR HOSE PIPES (Item 21: As per Innovations circulated by Railway Board letter No.2012/M (N)/24 Dt.25.06.2021) A test bench was developed in at Erode depot with in-house resources for testing of porous holes in BP and FP air hoses. This test bench helps in finding out the minute holes which cannot be detected in RTR or SWTR. Requirements: a)Compressed air of 6 kg/cm2 for testing b)Normal water. 8. ADAPTOR HOLDING CLAMP FOR CASNUB BOGIE (Item 20: As per Innovations circulated by Railway Board Letter No.2012/M (N)/24 Dt.25.06.2021) Four sets of Adaptor (along with EM pad and crown packing if required) Holding Clamps have been manufactured at ERODE depot. This clamps avoids the conventional system of working (Holding adaptor with hands) during wheel changing which had a risk of injury. Also clamps helps in firm holding of adaptors with bogie frames and avoids canting while fitting on the CTRB wheels. The conventional system needs 4 men to work while fitting bogie on the CTRB wheels. By utilizing this clamp, it is reduced to 02 men.

9. SHIFTING OF PEASD ISOLATION COCK  Due to provision of bio-toilets in ICF coaches, the existing location of PEASD isolation cock in some coaches become difficult to access by the GLP. This leads to delay in isolation of PEASD and punctuality loss  For the quick and convenient operation of this Two Way isolation cock, the same have beenre-located where easily accessible to train crew without necessitating their entry to deep under the coach body.  So far PEASD isolation cocks in 53 coachesare relocatedfrom January 2021 onwards. Before Modification After Modification

10. Replacement of Air pipe line in pit line at CBE  14 years old air pipe line available in the pit line which affected the effectiveness of RTR/STR due to rust formation in the air pipe line was replaced by departmental staffby using pipelines for 600 mts length with 50 COAC’s, 2 Nos. of strainer and 4 ball valves.  Thereby resulting in a total saving of Rs. 2 Lakhs duly avoiding the outsourcing of activity. The system was made operational on 01.09.2021.

12. Alterations in pipe lines and control equipment of air suspension system as per RCFCoach Alteration Instruction (CAI):  The following TWO major modifications are carried out in coach no. SR LWSCZ 194496 at Coimbatore coaching depot during April 2021.  After Modification, to check the effectiveness of the modifications, one trail run between CBE-TUP-CBE was conducted on 01.05.2021 and results were satisfactory. 3.

OLD DESIGN NEW DESIGN 4. Issue: Failure of ferrule joint of flexible hoses for FIBA. This failure was attributable to the following root causes: - Relative movement between the bolster and the bogie frame which i constantly moving the hoses.
