Spread over a sprawling 10000 square feet, its traditional interiors tie it to the Completion of the Project : 2019 rich cultural history of India, elevating the overall aesthetic value associated with the Design Team : Shilpi Sonar, Satyadeep Sonar, city. Mohammed Kasim, Disha Mutha, The entrance leads directly to the living room which has gorgeous marble flooring, an Rajni Singh intricately carved fireplace, gold patterned wallpaper, and a stunning chandelier that Photo Credit : Prashant Bhat illuminates the room. Staying true to the traditional elements of Indian palaces, the furniture used is enveloped in rich royal blue colors, and comprises the use of velvet fabric. Magnificent chairs flank the fireplace with a high back and are in trending teal color, tying the room together. Warm white cove lighting makes the living room feel more welcoming. The drapes used in the room are in opulent red, made of a heavy material that elicits royalty. Mrs. Shilpi has yet again woven her magic into this project, mixing the elements of luxury and accomplishing a simplistic yet intricate design. A thought provoking color scheme of gold, royal red, blue, and green have been used to highlight the elegance and charm of the house. Mrs. Sonar showed immaculate design abilities at every step of the way during the delivery of this bungalow and successfully designed the palace of dreams for her client. Throwing light on her belief, Mrs. Sonar believes that “Raigarh has forever been known for its coal mine and reserves. Through my designs, I want to create an impeccable niche in the glamorous field of interior design. This bungalow serves that purpose, as the vintage interiors tie it to the deep-rooted and all- encompassing culture of our great country.”

SHOBHAN KOTHARI ANAND MENON KIRAN KAPADIA KdnD STUDIO LLP DESIGN IS ABOUT STORYTELLING, WITH AN EMPATHETIC APPROACH FOAID 2020
Project Name : The Shift House The house and its program have been treated like a play of Jenga blocks; two volumes sit over Location : Lonavala each other and dissolve into the terrain. The shift of one volume further creates the necessary Site Area : 6500 Sq ft design and functional requirements that need to be accommodated for the other. The house is Project Area : Half Acre designed to respond to the site and more importantly not be obstructive in its manifestation but dissolve into the terrain. The design strategy evolved by ensuring that the earth plan was recessed at least by a floor height such that on approach and entry into the plot the views are uninterrupted. Initiation of the Project :2017 Uninterrupted views of the UNESCO recognised western ghats (mountain ranges) and Completion of the Project : 2019 manmade lake make for the perfect setting of this house. The approach on the north side of the Design Team : Anand Menon, Shobhan Kothari plot meant that any siting of the built form would obstruct the view of the surrounding. This meant access to the house would be by a ramp that would snake into the contour until a flat & Kiran Kapadia plateau was created to accommodate the built mass. The lower volume is conceived as a mass Photo Credit : Sebastian Zachariah growing from the earth plan and conceived as a concrete box that is solid at the entry but opens up towards the valley side. This volume houses the more public functions in a house like the dining and living along with the master suite and servant’s facility. The shift in the upper volume allows for the accommodation of the staircase leading to the four identical bedroom suites. This volume designed in green local stone is meant to camouflage with its surrounding. The brise soleil aka screen on the south façade protects the balcony which stretches along the four bedrooms. The north-facing screen protects the verandah (porch) and provides for the necessary privacy from the entry of the plot. The living room accesses to the large verandah which is abutted to the swimming pool and jacuzzi. The lower volume, the larger block has the outdoor dining adjacent to the pool. Utilities like generator, filtration plant etc are accommodated below this block. Since the south façade of the built form faces the south but also the brunt of weather, it was necessary for this volume to ‘shift’ outward and sideways to create the necessary overhang for protection for weather. The ‘Shift’ House, is an existential and displaced geometry set in the surrounding with a minimal barefaced transparent experience.
