Project Name : The Travellers The project came to us with a challenging space and the client’s aspiration to have an office Location : Pune that will ‘stand-out’ from other travel offices in the city. Our initial thoughts focused around Site Area : 2140 sq.ft. proper utilization of the odd shaped floor space and to create a design vocabulary that will Initiation of the Project : 2018 personify ‘TRAVEL’ as a very subtle, but an integral part of the entire office setup. This Completion of the Project : 2019 office is on the third floor of a commercial building abutting one of the busiest roads of the Client Name : Vijay Lokhande city. As a response to keep away the traffic noise, avoid visual distraction of the metro Design Team : Surbhi Dalwala, Prakash construction and to deviate from the monotonous feel of being in a commercial building, we decided to make this office a more in-ward looking space by virtue of the seating Suthar & Sameer Ghare arrangements and internal circulation. Photo Credit : PHX India & Studio Infinity Overall shape of the floor plate, position of lift & staircase block, plus odd geometry of the space at our disposal, all combined together to form a major aspect to be addressed in the initial stages of design. The overall layout planning focused on achieving a desired easy visitor movement and carving out simplified volumes from the available irregular floor plate at our disposal. The otherwise functional items like partitions, storages and screens were devised as elements of space formation and they ended up defining overall aesthetic vocabulary of the entire office. In this project, almost 95% work is customized, while 100% items are locally sourced. Detailing was worked out with available resources & lot of efforts went into getting works done from local skilled / semi-skilled labour. Thru’ out the office, indoor plants have been used to provide a visual relief from the typical attributes of an upper floor commercial space and also to incorporate the client’s love for plants. Pune has a rich history of crafts and even today, there are several traditional and contemporary artists in the city. We decided to integrate them into our designs and make them an important aspect of the final outcome. These elements were conceived and integrated in early stages of design, so as to achieve a desired blend of traditional & modern aesthetics in set timelines.

AMRUTHA KISHOR ELEMENTAL FOAID 2020
Project Name The Eco-House at Kottayam, Kerala is tailor-made to suit the lifestyle of the client. Numerous passive cooling strategies have been implemented to match the home’s tropical surroundings. A The Eco-House truly critically regional structure, the design of the Eco House, is a minimalist take on traditional Kerala Architecture. Location Built with burnt clay bricks and minimal concrete, the well-ventilated home is topped with Kerala Mangalore tiles on trusswork. An air cavity is formed in between the Mangalore tiles and the concrete ceiling creates a layer of insulation from the scorching sun. Along with the wind tower and mechanical exhaust system, the Eco-house cools itself during Kerala's hot summers. Good daylighting is one of the prime features of the Eco-House. Although there are plenty of windows, the protruding sunshades at the Eco-House allow only indirect sunlight to come in, minimising solar heat gain. The white interior walls reflect light coming in to brighten up the rooms. Wood from the locality was sourced to build the windows, staircase and furniture and only local species are used for landscaping. The Eco-house promotes a sustainable lifestyle with a dedicated compost system, cultivation of vegetables and fruits on-site and the reuse of harvested rainwater for irrigation. 285

SHAMILA MEERAN & FAISAL VOHRA F+S DESIGNS FOAID 2020
Project Name Petcart Nest is a one-of –a-kind pet resort on the outskirts of Bengaluru. The two-acre property lies amidst open fields and mango orchards. Petcart Nest The design intention was to leverage the natural land contours and have an ecologically Location responsible approach. Besides reviving a dried pond and retaining all the trees on site, we consciously employed natural materials to create built forms that would complement and Bengaluru integrate with the surroundings. The buildings are sited such that the natural vistas of the surroundings remain undisturbed. The material and color palette was kept neutral and earthy to blend in. Bamboo, while being a strong, eco-friendly building material, creates a beautiful permeable mesh which allows the structures to 'breathe' and flushes the interiors with sunlight and ventilation. The comfort of the four-legged guests was paramount and the resort was carefully designed with an environment- friendly approach to allow this. There’s a saying that ‘The greenest building is one that is already built.’ Our approach with Petcart Nest has been to Reduce, Recycle and Rejuvenate. 292
