BONEY KERIWALA & ALAK PARMAR THE BAD STUDIO FOAID 2020

Project Name Located in the plush locality of Surat, Gujarat, the two-level apartment place itself at the top level in a well-maintained housing complex with high-end amenities. The apartment boasts a FC-1201 large deck attached to the living space along with the north offering views of the cityscape and large central landscaped garden. Location The south is curtained by neighboring residential development. The existing developer’s layout Surat reflects the interweave of functions with the clutter of movement between the functional spaces. A privacy-based zonal bifurcation of functional area marks the initial concept for the house. The public zones are arrayed linearly along a deck on north bringing in an abundance of natural light, while the private zones along the south. This cluster free arrangement amplifies the transition. The arrangement promotes social interaction at the same time, much needed private space. The utility floor and the upper terrace's floor is interwoven by landscape with a tropical vibe. 418

HARDIK SHAH STUDIO LAGOM FOAID 2020

Project Name The brief from the client, revolved around being connected to nature, having plenty of sunlight, a clean look rendered using minimal materials, a sense of space and plenty of storage. While House of Hidden Doors the space in question was actually a duplex, the owners indicated a preference for all the primary areas being located in the first level, with the second level being devoted to the Location entertainment zone/guest space. Simply put, the home is actually two apartments— tied by a vertical connection. Mumbai The requirements of greenery and green views have been satisfied with the help of layering windows with planters, and internally, the landscaped water court with its beautiful reflections and the subdued, gentle murmur of water. The material palette features concrete (ceiling of the living-dining-kitchen area), granite (flooring throughout the house) and wood (mainly the passage). The long 36-foot passage is a result of L-shaped teakwood-batten wrap that camouflages extensive storage and access points, and has, in all, some 18 doors concealed in its facade — doors to the powder room, main entry and bedrooms and shutters to units that store everything from newspapers to luggage. Configuring this element was a study of storage needs, from both, outside (the public zone) and inside (bedrooms/private zone), with a jigsaw-like strategy applied to accommodate the requirements in a streamlined fashion. This penthouse succeeds in giving the clients what they sought — a serene, almost resort-like habitat in the congested urbanity of Mumbai… 423

BONEY KERIWALA & ALAK PARMAR THE BAD STUDIO FOAID 2020

Project Name The project takes its inspiration from one of the article published by Mark Wigley called ‘Atmospheres of Architecture’. In this article the author co-relates the ambiance or function of a Metamorph - O - Use space with its atmosphere. Location Every building/space has its own atmosphere formed by physical form, sensuous emission of sound, heat, light smell etc. A series of intangible phenomenon generated by stationary Surat elements. Through this study it was inferred that any space is defined by the elements it contains, if the characteristics of this elements are transformed, the utility of space is altered. This triggered us devise transformable furniture elements for this compact 650 sq-ftapartment that helped to alter the privacy and functionality of the spaces, as and when required, at the same time accentuating the overall aesthetics of the space. 435

KARAN DESAI KARAN DESAI ARCHITECTURE + DESIGN STUDIO FOAID 2020

Project Name The Blue house is a 1500 sq. ft. house with 3 master bedrooms, living, dining, den areas and a mandir. The layout has around 90% RCC walls which also meant that there was barely any The Blue House chance of resizing the bedrooms/Living etc. The flipside was the living room was longer than it was wider , like a train bogie . Location The big question then was how to “compartmentalise the functions without creating barriers Mumbai and yet have them aesthetically separated so that each space has its own identity”. The solution lay in some clever manoeuvring within given constraints andclient requirements and that involved dividing spaces with choice of colour blue. Physical partitions wasn’t something we envisioned to go with so we usedcolours to do the same visually. The transition from blue to nude colour is made possible by copper as a material to fill in the groove, this formed a circuit, and the same worked best to differentiate between the wood and the POP and same for the flooring. 440
