The portico is Shahil Jain designed to provide very warm welcoming effect. To achieve this we have maximised the use of wood on the Photo Credit : JP Agrawal two walls enclosing the portico, as well as on the Pardi of two open sides. The wooden planks used here are slick and staggered with variations in size. The light percolating through the slits adds to the overall ambiance of this zone. In order to maximise interaction within the family members, we decided to have a large atrium- courtyard in the middle of the house. This worked wonderfully well in providing light and ventilation to the dwelling units as well to the common circulation areas. The atrium became centre of attraction in the house providing spaciousness and extremely welcoming feelings. The courtyard is enclosed with about 60 feet high walls with large punctures and about 10 ft. wide vertical slit of glass at one corner. The courtyard walls are cladded with rough stones in an interesting pattern. Tall wooden relief work in the form of tree-truck and branches gave desired softness. The lower portion of wall is treated with beautiful artefacts along with seating arrangements in various patches. The atrium roof is designed with wooden rafters placed in various directions and levels to cross each other, to generate interesting pattern. The entire ambiance the courtyard gets further enhanced by wooden lampshades hanging from the top at various height, few of which are as tall as almost nine feet. Next to the main entry of the house, we have placed very large living room facing the large patch of garden located at the back of the plot. The strategic location of the living room, which is three sides open and having about 16 feet height makes it highly usable for all the family. The living room has an ambiance more like a veranda of the resort with beautiful waterbody and cascaded on two sides. All seven dwelling units of the house has its own unique décor style to suite to the occupier of the unit. Each unit has five bed rooms with living/dining/kitchen, and they overlook into the central atrium maintain the privacy. In all the house has many unique aspects and qualities to make it an ideal joint family house.

MADHAV RAMAN ANAGRAM ARCHITECTS FOAID 2020
Project Name : KOODAARAM : The Kochi-Muziris Biennale We call it the Koodaaram or tent in Malayalam. It is a half -opaque, half- Location : Kochi transparent, half-buried performance space for about 420 people. The Site Area : 5,000 sqm design references the Koothambalam, a traditional performative pavilion, Project Area : 12,000 sqft similarly modulating plinth, trellis, and canopy. However, it explores the Initiation of the Project : 2017 possibility of diffusing its opacity and weight while infusing it with light and Completion of the Project : 2018 accessibility. By making Cabral Yard an open people’s pavilion, the design Client Name : Kochi Biennale Foundation counter argues traditional exclusivities associated with performative spaces Design Team : Madhav Raman, Vaibhav Dimri, Khyati Kohli through openness, transparency, lightness, temporariness, and accessibility. Koodaaram thus suggests a counterpoint to the Koothaamablam. Abhishek Semwal, Narkant Negi Photo Credit : Suryan/Dang The design also seeks transience through lightness. The structures are designed to sit “lightly” on the site. Built in a record time of two months, the pavilion is designed to completely dismantle into components salvageable for reuse, leaving the site largely unmarked state of natural and vegetal rejuvenation of the site. 86
