386พจนานกุ รมพุทธศาสตร กอ นจนเสร็จ แลวเร่มิ ดาํ เนนิ การเกยี่ วกับการจัดพมิ พ ระหวา งนน้ั มงี านอื่นแทรกอยเู รอื่ ยๆตองรอโอกาสที่จะปรับปรงุ อกี เลมหน่งึ ทเ่ี หลอื อยู และไดต ั้งใจวา จะพิมพตามลาํ ดบั เลม ท่ีปรับปรุงกอนหลงั ในการพิมพ พจนานุกรมพุทธศาสตร มีขอพิจารณาที่จะตองตัดสินใจและปญหาท่ีจะตองแกไขหลายอยางรวมท้งั การทดลองและตรวจสอบเกยี่ วกับความสามารถในการพิมพด วย ซ่งึ ลว นเพ่ิมความลาชา ใหแ กก ารจดั พิมพ โดยเฉพาะคอื การพิมพภ าษาบาลีดว ยอักษรโรมัน ซึง่ ในการพมิ พค รง้ั ใหมนี้มตี ัวบาลีโรมนั เพ่ิมข้ึนเกนิ เทา ตัว หลงั จากผานพนเวลาชา นานในการปรึกษาสอบถามและศึกษางานกับโรงพิมพใ หญโตบางแหงแลว กพ็ อยตุ ไิ ดว า ในประเทศไทยคงมีโรงพิมพเพียง ๒ แหง เทา น้นั ที่มีอปุ กรณครบครนั พอจะพิมพอ ักษรบาลีโรมนั ไดต รงตามแบบนยิ มอยางแทจรงิ แตก ต็ ดิ ขัดปญ หาใหญว า แหงหนึง่ ตองใชทนุ พมิ พอยางมหาศาล อีกแหงหนึ่งคงจะตอ งพมิ พอยางชา เปนเวลาแรมป เม่ือไดพยายามหาทางแกปญหาตอไปอกี ระยะหน่งึ กม็ าลงเอยทที่ างออกใหม คือ ส่ังซ้ืออุปกรณป ระกอบดวยจานบนั ทึกและแถบฟล ม ตนแบบสําหรับใชพ ิมพอกั ษรบาลีโรมันจากบริษัทคอมพวิ กราฟค สิ้นเงิน ๒๔,๐๐๐ บาท และสนิ้ เวลารออีก ๒ เดือนเศษ อปุ กรณจึงมาถงึ คร้นั ไดอุปกรณมาแลวกป็ รากฏวายงั ใชงานไดไมส มบรู ณ ตองใหน กั เรียงพมิ พผ สู ามารถหาวธิ ียกั เยื้องใชใ หส ําเรจ็ ผล สนิ้ เวลาพลิกแพลงทดลองอีกระยะหน่งึ และแมจ ะแกไขปญ หาสําเร็จถึงขั้นทพ่ี อนบั วา ใชไ ด ก็ยังเปนการเรียงพมิ พท ยี่ ากมาก นักเรยี งพิมพคอมพวิ กราฟคสว นมากพากนั หลกี เลย่ี งงานนี้ แมจะมีนักเรียงพิมพท่ีชาํ นาญยอมรบั ทํางานนีด้ ว ยมีใจสู กย็ ังออกปากวาเปน งานยากทสี่ ดุ ทีเ่ คยประสบมา ตองทําดวยความระมดั ระวังตงั้ ใจเปน พเิ ศษ และกนิ เวลามากถงึ ประมาณ ๓ เทาตวั ของการเรยี งพิมพห นงั สอื ทว่ั ๆ ไป ระหวา งระยะเวลาเพยี รแกป ญ หาขางตน น้ี ในชว งเดือน เมษายน – มถิ ุนายน ๒๕๒๗ มูลนิธิ “ทุนพระพุทธ-ยอดฟา ” ในพระบรมราชูปถมั ภ ณ วดั พระเชตุพน ไดข อพมิ พหนังสอื Thai Buddhism in the Buddhist Worldของพระราชวรมุนี ในงานพระราชทานเพลิงศพ พล ต.อ. ประเสรฐิ รจุ ิรวงศ หนงั สอื เลมนม้ี เี นอ้ื หาท่ตี อ งใชอักษรพิมพบาลแี บบโรมันกระจายอยทู ัว่ ไป แมจะไมมากมายนัก แตกไ็ ดกลายเปนดังสนามทดสอบและแกป ญหาในการใชอุปกรณทส่ี ั่งซือ้ มาน้ี เปนสนามแรก และนับวาใชไ ดผลพอสมควร พอวาหนงั สอื Thai Buddhism สําเร็จ แตย งั ไมทนั เสร็จส้ิน กถ็ งึ ชว งที่ ดร. สจุ ินต ทังสบุ ุตร ติดตอ ขอพมิ พพจนานุกรมพุทธศาสน ฉบับครู นักเรียน นักธรรม ในงานพระราชทานเพลิงศพ อาจารยจิตร ทงั สุบุตร ผูเปนบดิ า เวลาน้ัน พจนานกุ รมเลมหลงั นี้ไดเ คยปรับปรุงเพม่ิ เติมไวบางแลว เล็กนอ ย แตยังไมถ งึ เวลาทจ่ี ะปรบั ปรุงจรงิ จังตามลําดับในโครงการ จงึ ตกลงวา จะพมิ พต ามฉบบั เดิมโดยใชวิธีถา ยจากฉบับพมิ พ พ.ศ. ๒๕๒๒ แกไขแทรกลงบา งเทา ทจี่ าํ เปน แตเมือ่ ตนฉบบั ถงึ โรงพิมพ โรงพิมพอ า งวา ฉบับเดิมไมชัดพอท่จี ะใชว ิธถี าย จะตอ งเรียงพมิ พใหม จึงกลายเปน เครอื่ งบังคับวาจะตองพยายามปรับปรุงเพิ่มเติมใหเสร็จส้ินไปเสียในการพิมพคราวนี้ทีเดียว เพ่ือหลีกเลี่ยงการลงทุนลงแรงและเปลอื งเวลาซา้ํ ซอนหลายคราว พอดเี กิดขอยงุ ยากติดขดั ทางดานโรงพิมพเปน อนั มาก จนหนงั สอื เสรจ็ ไมทนั งานและตอ มาเจา ภาพตอ งเปลี่ยนโรงพิมพ กลายเปน โอกาสใหรบี เรงงานปรบั ปรงุ เพิม่ เตมิ แขง ไปกบั กระบวนการพิมพ แมจ ะไมอาจทาํ ใหส มบูรณเตม็ ตามโครงการ แตก ็สําเรจ็ ไปอีกชั้นหนง่ึ และทําใหเปลยี่ นลาํ ดับกลายเปน วา เลมที่กะจะพมิ พท ีหลังกลับมาสาํ เร็จกอน นอกจากน้นั การพมิ พข องเจา ภาพคร้งั น้ี ไดก ลายเปนการอุปถัมภม หาจุฬาลงกรณราชวทิ ยาลยั ไปดว ย เพราะไดลงทุนสําหรับกระบวนการพิมพข้ันตนและขั้นกลางเสร็จส้ินไปแลว เม่ือพิมพใหมไมตองเสียคาเรียงพิมพและคาทาํแผนแบบพมิ พใหมอกี ลงทุนเฉพาะข้ันกระดาษข้ึนแทนพิมพและทําเลม เปน การประหยดั คาใชจา ยลงไปเปน อันมาก อนึ่งในการพิมพครง้ั นี้ ไดมขี อ ยุติที่สาํ คัญอยา งหนง่ึ ดวย คือ การปรบั ปรงุ ชือ่ ของพจนานกุ รมทัง้ สองใหเ รยี กงาย พรอมท้ังใหแสดงลักษณะท่ีแตกตางกัน พจนานุกรมพุทธศาสน ฉบับครู นกั เรียน นกั ธรรม เปล่ยี นเปนพจนานกุ รมพทุ ธศาสน ฉบบั ประมวลศัพท สวน พจนานุกรมพทุ ธศาสตร เรียกใหมว า พจนานกุ รมพทุ ธศาสตร ฉบับประมวลธรรม
