To keep the court as the focal point we have introduced the water body which is inspired by Ghats which symbolizes the Indian contemporary values of the house. Project Name : One Avighna Residence The client’s brief was to have a home with darker colours and have no white. They Location : Mumbai wanted us to use colours like green, yellow and blue into their home. This itself Project Area : 3100 Sq.Ft. was a challenge for the design team as most of our designs would have white as a Initiation of the Project : 2018 major base palette. The style chosen was a neo classical fusion of modernism with Completion of the Project : 2019 few classical hints like moulded wall panels. Design Team : Afaque Ansari, Manoj Ray Photo Credit : Prashant Bhat The colours were distributed in a way that they all got intertwined and yet looked harmonious. The living areas and guest room were kept using bottle green and rust with beige and grey as neutral colours to balance the palette. The daughter’s room was kept using yellow ochre while the son’s room was kept deep blue. The master bed was kept muted by using brown and beige. To create an opulent and luxurious feel the use of gold metal strips and screens adorned most elements and areas through the house. A beautiful deck with an outdoor jacuzzi became the soul of the house. A big break away from the regular design trends was a challenge well delivered and thoroughly appreciated by the clients. 37

The double height entrance lobby, a form finished cuboid lit by a “L” shaped skylight is the predominant element of the house. A bird motif on the form finished concrete wall is an ode to the Ornithologist. The main entrance is along a still water body with a backdrop of form finished wall. Elements like the Mangalore tile roof, colourful columns, yellow wall and the greenery around subtly breaks through the monotonous grey pallet accentuating the spaces. The interior experience was envisaged as a grey monochromatic one with simple uncluttered lines. The neutral tone lends appreciation to the everchanging colors of nature. The material palette inside the house is grey ghotai floors, exposed form finished ceilings, mangalore tiles for the roofs and simple white washed walls. The furniture is sparse , some of it is old family owned, others were made on site. Overall the interior reflects & respects the personality of the user, his lifestyle, his carefree attitude & his approach to nature. Toilets are experimented with pigmented ghotai. Natural light brushes the seamless walls creating a sensorial experience. 44
