The structure was perceived as a pyramidal structure imposing strong lines softened by terracotta tiles handpicked from the nearby villages of Panchmura and Murlu in the Bankura district. The temple has a square base with a peripheral podium surrounded by morum paths. The interior houses Goddess Kali in the form of a stylized idol. Envisioned to be a dark space with slits for daylight entry, the interior walls are to be decorated with potochitro made famous by the artisans of Bengal. The temple is the architect’s interpretation of the regional architectural legacy. JANNAT VASI JANNAT VASI INTERIOR DESIGN FOAID 2020
Project Name : Private Residence This living room surprises and delights like a special effects machine. Jannat Vasi opted for bold dramatic Location : Mumbai modernity instead of going down the conventional route of furniture, surfaces and classic materials. Project Area : 8500 Sq ft Jannat Vasi’s vision was to create an identity defining impact when you enter the home which sets the Completion of the Project : March 2019 tone for the rest of the spaces. The artistic brushstrokes of the Pierre Frey fabric on this sofa is dramatically uplifted against the embossed rug and bronze metal furniture from Scarlet Splendour. The polished CMC marble floor and white veneer walls from Tabu balance the strong identity of the colourful areas. The simplicity of the white allows for the richness of colour to emerge and holds everything in a cohesive legibility. Additionally, the delicate qualities of furniture details and lighting stand out. The red Gufram Rosso Cactus of the living room works together with the drenched blue wall, whilst the plain walls here allow the David Kracov artwork and other pieces to breathe. To enhance visual relationships, the custom juxtaposed bookshelf with a projected cantilever dining table is an interesting feature. This piece showcases the designer’s love for designing in three dimensionality. The tailor-made open kitchen shows a high degree of precision in design and blends in effortlessly in the living room. The designer proposed an exciting chromatic pattern and pure colour blocking reminiscent of the Memphis design movement. This design is a tribute to Ettore Sottsass’ Deco-meets-Pop style. Playing with pattern, shapes and diagonal stripes to create a strong visual impact, this is a space realized out of the designer’s sketchbook. It was creatively executed through the use of colour and angular lines which visually connect the walls, floor and ceiling. To balance this riot of colours, the designer has used white walls and blackboard wardrobe shutters. The Luce Naga gold lamps and bone inlay Sheikh Cabinet from Scarlet Splendour add maturity to this kid’s bedroom. With a key focus on texture and palette, the cool blue tones and rich timber textures represent understated luxury in this master suite. Using linear geometry and colour blocking, Jannat Vasi has created a modern traditionalist design with this beautiful well lit space. Showcasing the designer’s much sought after custom design skills, she has created an inlay with chianti marbles which complement the blue dual texture walls. The made to order bedding, wall panels, fabrics and chairs add mature hues to the overall tone of the room. The Scarlet Splendour Fool’s Gold Rhapsody Table exudes glam while the majestic Playhouse Cabinet is close to perfection. Iconic pieces like these are often shapers of space. The entrance corridor inlay is articulately hand crafted with red jasper and black stones.

KALPAK BHANDARI VEEKAS STUDIO FOAID 2020
Project Name : Spires – Gift City In all the major cities of the world the most prestigious offices are the glamorous high-rise office buildings. Like in Location : Ahmedabad most cities of urban India, high rise office buildings represent extrusions of generic towers that do not engage much with their environment and create isolation in Glass Boxes rather than connecting with the outdoors. The design of Spires is our attempt to add life to the office building and an exercise to create a bold and striking aesthetic statement. Spires, an upcoming office building is part of Ahmedabad’s, Gift City – a Smart City with its world class infrastructure envisioned by Mr.Narendra Modi. Spires boasts a high rise tower with floors designed for flexibility and efficiency. The building offers 3,30,000 sq ft of premium office space on 24 floors. They will include flexible workspaces that cater for individual and collaborative work as well as spaces for socializing. A 15.00 meter high arrival foyer welcomes the users into the building. The ground floor is planned as a business center with common facilities like meeting, conference rooms, pre function areas and a cafeteria. The structural grid is decided based on parking requirements, ease of circulation as well as considering efficiency in planning of internal furniture layouts of offices. The office floor plate is planned for flexibility to accommodate smaller offices as well as one large floor plate if required. Each floor has a two triple height terraces which act as relief and break out spaces for the offices. This 100 meter high office tower opens up the inner core and vertical circulation shaft to the exterior in a three-dimensional sculptural form to embrace the exterior. The Spiraling arrangement of terraces enable a dynamic, rational and efficient layouts for the office units and create an interesting exterior. The terraces create both physical and emotional connectivity between the indoor and outdoor environment and introduces break out spaces in the office building to provide much needed relief to the users of the building and also doubles up as refuge areas in event of fire. These terraces being triple heighted communicate with the terraces at other levels creating a sense of a large open landscaped volume which can support up tall trees. Gift City Development Authority has drafted and defined guidelines for use of materials on the facades for reasons of creating and projecting a certain image and also for maintaining a certain design vocabulary amongst all the buildings that would eventually come up in the entire development. The Building is planned to be energy efficient with the use of maximum sunlight boosting mental health, glare control using high performance tinted glass to enhance visual and physical comfort within the building and also to reduce fatigue and result in better productivity. The use of photovoltaic panels on the roof top to support all the common lighting as well as some basic internal lighting for all offices. A light tube is planned at the core of the building which provides natural light to a certain extent to the service zone at the core of the building. The Glass facade plays a key role in the energy efficiency of the building. It allows natural light to enter generously into the building while drastically reducing the cooling and heating needs and providing to the occupants an improved comfort by cutting glare and noise. The selection of glass is aimed at maximizing the performance in terms of light transmission, heat blocking and safety issues.

The space in between, became the general office area. It was Jimenez Leon and Mariyam out intention to have this large area broken down, so as create intimate spaces, spaces Kherodawala which one could then segregate team wise. This was achieved by creating senior pods Photo Credit : Suleiman Merchant within the large space, pods which extended the privacy of a cabin, yet the retained the fluidity of an open office plan. Materially, the palette was to be restricted to a subtle palette of neutral colors, with touches of blue, in sync with the colors of the brand, working towards an aesthetic that is executive in spirit yet not entirely imposing. The blue, made appearances throughout the office, serving as a base reference for important backdrops, storages, as well as the flooring. Feature elements were spread across the office, to add interest, both visually as well as in terms of usage. The reception area is marked by an house designed statement piece of furniture, a greeting desk made of translucent back lit plexiglass, which serves as the receiving element as one enters the space. The directors cabin, holds a floor to ceiling metal shelving unit in front of the windows, which doubles as a backdrop to the working desk. Suede and copper paneling finds feature in the director lounge, as a modern avatar of the traditional paneling found in country clubs. The cafeteria too has an element of surprise, with a glowing baffle wall of plants separating the executive dining with the rest, hinting at the possibility of a open to sky courtyard between the two spaces. 143
