To open up the spaces and break the linearity of the Completion of the Project : Aug 2019 apartment, all common spaces were opened up and walls were replaced with glass Client Name : Mr Ankit Modi enclosure to allow the space to follow one into another. Design Team : Mr. Manoj Uppadhaya, Ms. Shruti A nature inspired palette with earthy colours and lots of textures with a rich sensory feel Gaddayan, Mr. Mukesh Singh were used in the entire apartment which evolved into an organic beauty. Diverse Photo Credit : Pankaj Anand materials, paired with metallic finishes especially gold, gave the entire apartment a feeling of sophistication and class. All the common areas were designed with a single colour tone, while the different bedrooms had specific colour schemes that were suited for individual users. The den was the heart of the house and was designed with lavish sofas and accent seating, thus allowing the space to be cozy and comfortable but at the same time a showcase of sophisticated finishes. Luxury artwork and accessories were commissioned keeping the scale of the space in mind. The long corridor which was the spine of the project was highlighted by dramatic artwork at it’s end to allow the eye to travel along the entire length of the corridor. This made the “spine” less linear, and gave a focus to it’s linear form. The main door was designed as a highlight point for the entry into the apartment. Brass and black high gloss paint were paired to create a dramatic entry which then lead to a minimalist entrance lobby. Vibrant hues juxtapositioned with different palettes and materiality create a dynamic dialogue in the entire space giving it a modern freshness.

SAMERR BALVALLY & SHILPA JAIN BALVALLY STUDIO OSMOSIS A HOME IS A STORY-TELLER OF THE OWNER’S LIFESTYLE, DREAMS, ASPIRATIONS AND WE FOCUS ON STORY-LISTENING FIRST. FOAID 2020
Project Name : World Tower The house should exemplify sophistication, in the form of rich materials with bold yet modest patterns Location : Mumbai composed with a sense of proportion, balance and minimalist elegance. Every detail and need had been Site Area : 2100 sq. ft. thought out and designed to take living concepts to the next level of luxury, practicality and optimization. The Project Area : 2100 sq. ft. client’s version of luxurious experiences, simplicity and elegant lifestyle was one of the major defining factors Initiation of the Project : Sep 2018 and inspiration. The world towers interiors have been designed by Armani Casa. We wanted the home to be Completion of the Project : March 2019 an extended arm of the tower yet a few notches ahead in the drama and story. The intention was to be Design Team : Sameer Balvally intricate in detail and materials as well as textures which are used in a complex manner yet exemplifying a serene balance. We wanted to enhance the sense of space with a harmonious colour palette of neutral Shilpa Jain Balvally colours augmented with detailed furniture, wall cladding and custom lighting. Client Name : Mr Bhoy - NRI Photo Credit : Ishita Sitwala Based on the root inspiration, the materials and textures revolves around neutral palette of white, various tones of taupe and greiges within the fabrics, wooden textures with hints of resin and antique metallic finishes. Variations of subtle yet sophisticated blues have been used throughout the house in various forms to mimic the proximity to the ocean and to add a sense of calm within the house. We wanted to maintain a balance between the high gloss and the softer textural finishes. With marble being the main choice for flooring and high gloss polyester finishes on the veneer, it was important to balance it with softer fabric wall cladding. The wall cladding are broken by metal inlays and enhanced with laser cut metal screen. Patterns are the highpoint of the design element yet not loud at all. These often entailed lead time to experiment, detail, make endless mock-ups, process and execute. It was challenging and time consuming to get the entire process right, in the end to see all these elements fall into place as they come together to form one cohesive design. The custom designed fused resin and wood dining table along with the complementing internal doors and the idea of light passing through show the detailed process it entailed and finally worked as expected. Design comes together successfully when the material chosen for the design reacts unequivocally. Design needs to be tweaked due to material workability limitations, expertise or simple logistics. The key is to collaborate with the right people to understand the problems and find viable solutions. Whether it is customizing lights, getting the paint shade and textures correct or getting the detail of that door handle correct. Also, getting uniformity on a larger scale with the best quality in mind is challenging compared to small samples that get approved especially if the job is labor/handwork based. The way the whole space opened up with respect to the planning after breaking down the walls and opening up the kitchen which itself was a elegant and chic space eventually creating an interesting social interactive connecting space in between.

Design Team : Sanjay Arora, Sanchit Arora, Vandana Spatial design strategies envisaged around this trapezoid into large rooms with wedge shaped annexes that formed in the bathrooms adding an interesting design element to an otherwise Arora, Virender Singh, Akarsh Varma, mundane space. The house unfolds as an anticipatory winding walk between the light walls Jagdish Bangari, Aayush Misra, Tarun and the monolith stone staircase that runs to the other levels of the house. A clear passage Tyagi, Tanushi Goyal, Janhvi leads you to a fairly open living room, the interior of which was designed in neutral tones to Ambhudkar, Prarthna Misra, Navdisha create a sense of a sanctuary; one that embraces nature. All common areas spread across the Kukreja, Anushka Arora, Ayushi Gupta three floors overlook a splash pool and Barragan inspired water spout, clad in red sandstone, Photo Credit : Niveditaa Gupta through which water cascades amidst a revelatory garden set, hidden from the outside. The greenery is woven around the house, whereby plants have been given free reign to clamber between all levels, enhancingthe foundational cubic forms of the house. The House of 49 resonates with indigenous architecture; The respectful dominance of the materials, left minimally treated and finished with staggered floors that act as vantage points and break away from the straight-lined angles of a house. The balconies protrude outwards suggesting a method of addition that welcomes shade for the pool below, whilst remaining wrapped amidst the trees. The interior of the house was done keeping in mind the innate experiences the house and its inhabitants share. Curated and Collected from various places, the design suggests a personalized touch as serene as the house itself. Like its users, the house matures over time. Conceptualized through an outside to inside philosophy, the house of 49 trees fuses architectural form and planning to the emotive quality of curating various movements within the house.

SEEMA PURI MULLAN & ZARIR MULLAN SEZA ARCHITECTS & INTERIOR DESIGNERS A PLAY OF LINES! FOAID 2020
Project Name : Mani Bungalow Lines are the basis of any structure and to keep the purity of form intact we decided to use a Location : Mathura play of lines for the design, Starting in two dimension and then continuing to use it to create a Site Area : 29200 SQ.FT strong visual language in the third dimension too, therefore when first you see the bungalow Project Area : 25000 SQ.FT your mind registers a series of lines, some thin, some thick, some horizontal some vertical. This Initiation of the Project : Nov 2017 property in Mathura is a vacation home for the client and his family to enjoying some quality Completion of the Project : March 2019 time together. The plot has some beautiful trees which we wanted to pretty much build the Design Team : Seema Puri Mullan, Zarir Mullan house around. On entering one sees the house through the leaves of the tree located in the front and then when one approaches closer there’s another tree that the porch is designed Abhijit Hingankar, Makrand around. This makes the entry experience much more meaningful. The tree starts at the entrance Kalambe , Oswin Mascarenhas, and then pushes out through the large deck between the bedrooms above. Siddhesh Aroskar Photo Credit : Dinesh Mehta The tropical climate drove the design, therefore all the rooms were arranged in a manner to allow for through ventilation, each opening onto large covered decks which were further protected at the end by wood profiles. The plan thus formed a small front court with a water body and a large more private rear court. The rhythmic play of these wood profiles also becomes the design language of the structure. The design is a fusion of traditional concepts with a contemporary flavour. The architecture is such that the spaces seem to merge into one another and you can see right through the front lawn to the rear. All the public areas are at the lower level while the private bedrooms are above. The family lounge opens out to the water body in the front, and simultaneously connects with the rear court too, giving it some beautiful vistas. The theatre too opens out to a deck which ends near the water body. The volume of upper floor, is set back from the lower to create terraces for the upper rooms. We used a system of double walling with a 50 mm air gap to provide insulation. The balance between built spaces and open spaces provides sufficient natural lighting and the east- west orientation of windows provides through ventilation in the whole house. The whole project revolves around this dilution of the boundaries between interior and exterior, creating an intense spatial dynamics. 276

Project Name : Badari Residence The Badri residence is a house designed on a typical tight knit urban plot measuring 2400sft. Location : Bangalore The client requirement was further distinguished into two kinds of spaces. Spaces that needed Project Area : 5500sqft to be personal and intimate verses spaces that needed to be congregational in nature which Initiation of the Project : 2017 encouraged interaction amongst family and friends. The building’s exterior and interiors was Completion of the Project : 2019 conceptualized as an assemblage of a series of episodes that seek ‘delight’ through Client Name : Badari Ramesh architectural effects. Photo Credit : Shamanth Patil The Living room The plan was organised around a double height space that forms the soul of the house. This space connects the living, dining, kitchen, prayer room and the exterior deck into a cohesive whole. The space is further animated with an internal balcony and a bridge overlooking it to establish connectivity with floor above. The fluidity in this space enables individual requirements to overlap with each other providing a cosy interactive space for the family. This space is rendered with an eclectic material palate, replete with colour and texture that seeks warmth and delight. The Façade The bold façade was conceptualised as an assemblage of different parts that come together to form a whole. The master bedroom is sculpted to create a figural void and is materially draped in rough marble. This ephemeral marble screen, structurally hung from the ceiling is bound by an earthy terracotta frame with a void. A garden occupies this void. The green deck with its figural void negotiates the connection between the interiors of the house and street it overlooks. The slatted window screen further adds a syncopated rhythm to this formal organisation. The Terrace The terrace sequestered from the busy street is an area where the family entertains and unwinds. The home theatre room and the guest bedroom open into an open space with a Jacuzzi and open deck. The slatted roof and the raised green wall provide the required privacy to the space from the neighbours.
