Project Name : Axis Vanam Axis Vanam (Vanam meaning ‘Forest’ in Sanskrit) is a project that aims to be a Location : Bangalore green oasis within the chaos of its surroundings. The project was initiated with the Site Area : 5000 Sqft idea of condensing the gap between the built and greens. It is Completion of the Project : Nov 2019 designed as a stimulus to restore the balance in the built and green spaces blurring Client Name : Axis Concepts Construction the boundaries between the two. Design Team : Akshay Heranjal, Nishita Bhatia Located in the heart of one of the busiest neighbourhoods in Bangalore, Vanam is Aditi Pai, Jaikumar, Priyanka Bankapur a mid-size housing project with 20 living units stacked across 5 levels. Every unit is Photo Credit : Niveditaa Gupta outward-facing, with openings planned to integrate ample light and cross- ventilation. Each unit is compact and planned as a 2 Bedroom apartment with an additional flexible area, planned to be an extension to the deck. The balcony is re- defined as a “garden deck” to hold soil and paving, providing each home with its private garden at all levels. The fragmented, yet fluidic configuration of the balcony enhances the overall building geometry. The overall material palette interweaves with the greens from the balconies and planters. It is planned to highlight the double-height corner volumes and scale down the visual vocabulary. 12mm thick brick cladding along with exposed grey textures formed the prime façade materials. The alternate deck projections and materiality of the façade is also enhanced by the sun movement and the quality of light and shadow. The planting pattern is tropical and native to the local region. Each balcony is provided with a tree engaging the users with their greens. The building is an attempt, to function as an environmental filter by introducing “intermediate landscapes” that connect the residents with their green spaces.

Being trusted by your clients to such an extent Project Area : 6530 sq.ft where they meet you on day one to allot you their dream-house assignment and Initiation of the Project : July 2018 then directly on the house-warming ceremony comes as both a surprise and a Completion of the Project : Feb 2019 sweet challenge for us designers. There is a mixed sense of freedom and Client Name : Mrs. Malpani responsibility to shape up the complete package of a house that will serve as a Design Team : Alkesh Gangwal, Sonakshi Bora, Amit stunning abode of the client’s and your dreams. Bhandari, Taruaarav, Milind Shette “Our strength lies in extracting inspirations and giving them a twist thereby Photo Credit : Sebastian Zachariah developing an individual style that is resonant to the context of the place and people. Hence, we decided to create a space that brings two contrasting forms of design together, those being contemporary and traditional, in a unique homogenous setting. The project relays the same emotion throughout,” Alkesh Gangwal says. To design this house for Mrs Malpani, the driving influence we considered was the architecture and culture of Rajasthan, where their roots lie. The city evokes a certain kind of imagery – of opulent palaces, intricate arches, paintings on haveli walls, handicrafts and lots of bright colors. This home in Aurangabad checks all these boxes while blending it with a modern feel. The spaces inside the house comprising of five bedrooms, open terrace and the interstitial spaces, all establish the home’s dominant design theme through the traditional hand-painted paintings, fluted glass door panels that slide to open up the volume inside the house, and the stone jaalis inspired from haveli-architecture of Rajasthan making up its eclectic vibe. “This was one of our most creative and challenging projects, and it shaped up very satisfactorily with a unique end result,” says architect Alkesh Gangwal

AMAN AGGARWAL CHARGED VOIDS FOAID 2020
Project Name : Landran CONCEPT: The concept was to design a simple triangular plan that could be laid on an odd shaped site. The Location : Punjab primary idea was to design a hostel building with no boundary walls in a campus divided by gated compounds for all living spaces. This would also serve the purpose of creation of public spaces and amenities in a campus that has a serious shortage of covered spill over spaces. Site Area : 27,400 sq.ft PLANNING: The overall planning was done in order to achieve a perfect balance of public & private spaces. The Project Area : 1,35,000 sq. Ft. main public space was created in the basement with a double height entrance area, a triple height sunken court Initiation of the Project : Jan 2017 and steps opening directly on to the road in the front. The lower floors i.e. the basement, ground and the first Completion of the Project : April 2019 floor all have the public spaces and amenities. The living spaces are organized on the upper floors. The plan Client Name : Chandigarh Group Of Colleges was devised as a simple triangle with a large atrium with skylights on top to allow abundant light in the interiors. Design Team : Rahul Vij, Sugandha Wadhawan The idea of generation of an outdoor space without a gated compound was resolved by the triple height sunken court. The court thus becomes a public space for the entire campus during the day and an outdoor space for the Javed Akhtar Siddiqui hostel occupants once the hostel is locked at night. Hence, the entrance from the front leads to a flight of Photo Credit : Javier Callejas Sevilla staircase that goes down to the basement & the sunken court. While the side entrance with a ramp becomes the primary entrance for hostel occupants leading directly into the central atrium. The ground level in the front half is all a public space for the campus while rest of it houses a large reception area, with an adjoin dining & kitchen facility. The basement houses the gym overlooking the sunken court, TV rooms with independent sunken courts, a sports area, a multipurpose hall and other campus stores. The second level with smallest floor plate houses the reading room and an administration office along with the warden’s living space. The living spaces for the students were housed from the third to the nineth levels with each floor having 23 rooms for 3 students each. Hence, a total capacity of 483 was achieved on 7 levels. Since the focus was the living spaces, the overall planning from the beginning was to emphasize on the quality of living spaces. This was ensured by creating congregation & spill over spaces in form of bridges that bisected the atrium at each level in a different way at each level. These varied bridges thus created a great interaction between the various levels and also provided for a naturally well-lit and ventilated interior space. A covered balcony is attached to each room but it was ensured that the façade was in sync with all the other 100 feet high academic buildings in the campus. MATERIAL PALETTE: The overall material palette is limited to simple white painted surfaces and grey grit finish. The flooring was the most economical local stone ‘kota’. Hence, the building is a simple geometric structure in the lowest possible cost yet ensuring a great interior space. The luxury was added by use of primary colors in typical Corbusieran style of Chandigarh. Also, the entire building is air cooled with units placed as a part of facilities on the corners of the triangle.

AMIT AURORA GROUPDCA FOAID 2020
Project Name : Corporate office for Visage The corporate office project for Visage Beauty and health Care Products Pvt. Ltd. in Noida is designed to be a contemporary Location : Noida workspace that facilitates engagement, collaboration, and employee efficacy. Design intervention is enabled amidst the Site Area : 2000sqft previously-flat floor plates to make the interiors more dynamic while optimizing workplace efficiency and well-being. Project Area : 2000sqft Initiation of the Project : Dec 2018 The design revolves around transforming this space into a powerful and memorable insertion in the surroundings. The Completion of the Project : Oct 2019 façade on the south-west and south east (that receives maximum sunlight during the day, hence the heat gain) is designed Client Name : Visage Beauty & Health based on volumetric analysis – with carefully designed fins and fenestrations crafted to block the summer sun completely and allow penetration of sunlight during winters. The superposed second façade, i.e. the fins step-up as a solar protection, Care Pvt Ltd while giving the elevation increased depth, are built with Corten steel panels. These panels are geometrically abstract in Design Team : Sandeep, Vinod their unmistakable contemporary intentions, like a sun shading den reducing heat gain and at the same time optimizing day light. The contemporary reference is softened by the way the building sets itself in the levels across and above. From inside, the façade is perceived as planes superposed on the concrete volume, increasing the impression of lightness. The rust Corten steel texture of the fins outside in the façade intends to make light its own and reflects the expressions of the building while the fins change in appearance throughout the day. Keeping the people at the core of the design, the building focuses on the typological aspects of offices and individual user experience, while people work or the time that the users spend here. The heart of this new workplace is the three-storied void or the amphitheatre that connects the building vertically and visually. With striking horizontal and vertical views across and between floors, it presents a clear view of Visage’s everyday life at the office and enables a sense of connection. The stepped amphitheater allows for open discussions and presentations in a muted color palate with the striking black backdrop. Shivani, Matri The open and authentic spaces are dispersed throughout and are adjacent to the void on all floors, where workstation, Photo Credit : Suryan & Dang conference rooms, and collaboration zones become destinations that drive connections between people, clients and partners. The staircase that connects reception on stilt level with main office vertically is a playful structure with palatial lighting- floating like a vertical, natural vista between the ground and upper ground floors. The staircase connecting the first and second floor is like a bridge that links work zones via intermediary collaboration spaces reflecting on the engineering origins of the workplace. All furniture is custom-made and designed to resonate with the brand ethos. The notion of teamwork and collaboration continues in the furniture systems and layout of each floor. Bespoke height- adjustable desks are laid out in clusters allowing for privacy, personalization, wellbeing and collaborative working. The customized ceiling in the form of horizontal fins is a design response of the façade in order to elevate the dynamics of the interior architectural elements. These fins in ceiling hide services and have efficiently designed down lights for tasks and up lights for general illumination. Furthermore, the fins are cladded with acoustic panels. The quantity and positioning of these panels has been done with carefully calculations in order to provide absolute auditory comfort
